Abstract: The effectiveness of a 10-week group music therapy program for marginalized parents and their children aged 0—5 years was examined. Musical activities were used to promote positive parent—child relationships and children's behavioral, communicative and social development. Participants were 358 parents and children from families facing social disadvantage, young parents or parents of a child with a disability. Significant improvements were found for therapist-observed parent and child behaviors, and parent-reported irritable parenting, educational activities in the home, parent mental health and child communication and social play skills. This study provides evidence of the potential effectiveness of music therapy for early intervention.

Factors influencing early childhood education and care educators’ reporting of child abuse and neglect

Abstract: Mandatory reporting of child abuse and neglect is a complex yet essential responsibility tasked to many professional groups working with children, including the early childhood education and care (ECEC) workforce. This paper provides a narrative review synthesising the empirical literature on factors influencing ECEC educators’ reporting of child abuse and neglect, including knowledge and training, attitudes, thresholds for reporting, work experience and context, inter-organisational co-operation and self-efficacy. These factors can act as barriers and facilitators to effective reporting practice and are likely to interact in dynamic yet modifiable ways. Findings from the review may be useful for informing future education and training initiatives for the ECEC workforce. Further research is warranted in this area.
Imbalances between workforce policy and employment for early childhood graduate teachers: Complexities and considerations

Abstract: Early childhood teachers have a myriad of possible employment options, with birth to eight years degree qualifications preparing graduates to work in a range of early childhood settings, including prior-to-school. At the same time, early childhood workforce policies in Australia, and elsewhere, are increasingly requiring degree-qualified teachers to be employed in prior-to-school settings. A growing number of reports and studies make a compelling case that there is a shortage of early childhood, degree-qualified teachers who are willing to work in prior-to-school settings, including centre-based child care. This conceptual article focuses on the imbalances in workforce policy and employment for early childhood teacher graduates. We examine the complexities and considerations of these imbalances, through exploration of literature and existing research, including small-scale studies and existing graduate destination data (Australian Graduate Survey). The article concludes with a proposed research agenda and suggestions to redress the imbalance of early childhood graduate teachers who are prepared, though seemingly not willing, to operationalise policy requirements for teachers to work in centre-based child care.

Abstract: Devido à importância do modal rodoviário para a economia brasileira no que diz respeito à sua participação na matriz de transporte de cargas, à elevada participação no consumo de combustíveis fósseis (óleo diesel) e nas emissões de CO2, este artigo avalia se rodovias em melhores estados de conservação implicam benefícios econômicos e ambientais. Os benefícios econômicos disseram respeito à avaliação dos seguintes parâmetros: consumo de combustível, tempo de viagem e gasto com manutenção do veículo. Já os benefícios ambientais referiram-se às reduções das externalidades negativas resultantes da diminuição nas emissões de CO2. Foram realizadas coletas de dados primários relacionados ao desempenho observado em caminhões (dotados de computadores de bordo para auxiliar na coleta dos dados) em rodovias com diferentes condições de infra-estrutura. Num total de 20 viagens realizadas, foram observados o consumo de combustível e o perfil das velocidades em duas rotas em diferentes estados de conservação (C o Grande a Santos e Rondonópolis a C o Grande). Os resultados indicaram a existência de benefícios econômicos e ambientais para as rotas em melhor estado de conservação.
Potencial da loǵıstica ferroviária para exportação de açúcar em São Paulo: recomendações de localização para armazéns intermodais

Abstract: Este trabalho analisa a distribuição espacial ótima de armazéns para movimentação de açúcar no estado de São Paulo utilizando o transporte ferroviário. O instrumento utilizado para esta avaliação foi um modelo matemático de programação mista cujos resultados indicam tendências para localização e capacidade destes armazéns. Foram elaborados quatro cenários e os resultados obtidos apontam para a alta competitividade do transporte intermodal em relação à alternativa de transporte rodoviário da usina ao porto. Confirmou-se também que há espaço para aumento do market share da ferrovia na movimentação de açúcar para a exportação do estado de São Paulo.

Abstract: The Longitudinal Study of Indigenous Children (LSIC also called Footprints in Time) is the only longitudinal study of developmental outcomes for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander children globally. Footprints in Time follows the development of Australian Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander children to understand what Indigenous children need to grow up strong. LSIC involves annual waves of data collection (commenced in 2008) and follows approximately 1,700 Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander children living in urban, regional, and remote locations. This LSIC Primary School report has been produced following the release of the twelfth wave of data collection, with the majority of LSIC children having completed primary school (Preparatory [aged ~5 years] to Year 6 [aged ~12 years]). Primary schools play a central role in supporting student learning, wellbeing, and connectedness, and the Footprints in Time study provides a platform for centring Indigenous voices, connecting stories, and exploring emerging themes related to the experience of Indigenous children and families in the Australian education system. This report uses a mixed-methods approach, analysing both quantitative and qualitative data shared by LSIC participants, to explore primary school experiences from the perspective of children, parents and teachers. Analyses are framed using a strengths-based approach and are underpinned by the understanding that all aspects of life are related. The report documents a range of topics including teacher cultural competence, racism, school-based Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander education activities, parental involvement, engagement, attendance, and academic achievement.

Abstract: Growth in early self-regulation skills has been linked to positive health, wellbeing, and achievement trajectories across the lifespan. While in idual studies have documented specific influences on self-regulation competencies in early childhood, few have modelled a comprehensive range of predictors of self-regulation change across health, development, and environment simultaneously. This study aimed to examine the concurrent associations among a range of proximal and distal influences on change in children’s self-regulation skills over 2 years from age 4–5 years. Data from the Longitudinal Study of Australian Children ( N = 4983) were used in a structural equation model, predicting a multi-source composite measure of self-regulation at each of 4–5 years and 6–7 years. By controlling for earlier self-regulation and covariates, the model examined the relative contributions of a comprehensive range of variables to self-regulation change including health, development, educational, home environment, time-use, and neighbourhood characteristics. The significant predictors of children’s self-regulation growth across 4 to 7 years were fewer behavioural sleep problems, higher gross motor and pre-academic skills, lower levels of maternal and paternal angry parenting, and lower levels of financial hardship. There were also marginal effects for high-quality home learning environments and child-educator relationships. Findings suggest that if we are to successfully foster children’s self-regulation skills, interventionists would do well to operate not only on children’s current capacities but also key aspects of their surrounding context.

Abstract: The development of Green Transport Corridors (GTCs) is an important strategy to help a region achieve more sustainable solutions. When such GTCs are implemented, multimodal supply chains and environmentally-friendly alternatives for freight transportation through economically relevant hubs and long-distance routes can be facilitated. Based on previous efforts for evaluating single routes, this paper aimed to propose a single multi-criteria Logistics Composite Index (LCI), constructed based on a set of Key Performance Indicators (KPIs), to evaluate the efficiency of GTCs considering the integration of multiple transport modes (highways, railways, and waterways). This approach consists of a dual-step procedure, applying a Network Equilibrium Model (NEM) and Data Envelopment Analysis (DEA). It was applied to Brazilian agricultural bulk transport export corridors, considering the existing and planned infrastructure in the harvest year of 2018/2019. In general, the best indexes were those from corridors considering planned railways. Specifically, the best index was from a corridor from the Northeast region. The second was from the South. The third was from the North (Amazon), and was one of the few corridors with adequate waterways. This approach is useful for decision-makers to determine the most efficient corridors as well as for policy-makers to guide infrastructure investments and address public policies.

Emotional Regulation in Mothers and Fathers and Relations to Aggression in Hong Kong Preschool Children

Abstract: This study explored the associations among emotional regulation in mothers and fathers and preschool children’s physical and relational aggression using a Hong Kong Chinese s le. This study also explored whether child gender would moderate the association between parental emotional regulation strategies and children’s physical and relational aggression. Participants were 168 children aged 4–6 years. Parents reported on their own emotional regulation approaches and kindergarten class teachers rated children’s aggression 6 months later. Path analyses showed that higher levels of reappraisal and lower levels of suppression by mothers was associated with higher levels of child relational aggression. There were no significant associations among fathers’ emotional regulation and children’s aggression. Results from multi-group analysis showed that there were no significant moderation of the associations by child gender. Results highlight the importance of mothers’ emotional regulation in child aggression and suggest that the maladaptive consequences of emotional suppression are culturally relative.
Evaluation of green transport corridors of Brazilian soybean exports to China

Abstract: Goal: To evaluate the potential of strategies to promote green corridors of soybean exports from Brazil to China. Design / Methodology / Approach: The best transportation corridors are evaluated in terms of minimum transportation cost and minimum CO2 emissions in transport. This problem was modelled as a linear programming problem and was solved by GAMS. It involves transporting soybeans from the producing farms in the Brazilian Center-West to the main Brazilian export ports and, subsequently, to China, through the various logistical infrastructures available. Results: In general, strategies aimed to reduce CO2 emissions in the Brazilian soybean exports to China, and also promote the reduction of transport costs, as presented in the results of the different scenarios. Since the greatest impact on both indicators came from the use of Capesize ships, the study suggests that investments in port infrastructure to increase its vessel berthing capacity generate positive impacts, both in terms of lower transportation costs and CO2 emissions. Limitations of the investigation: The producing regions were ided in mesoregions. The road distance considered is between the centroid of the producing region to the destination. Practical implications: Especially in the scenarios of unrestricted transport infrastructure, the study suggests the configuration of optimum soybean flows, as well as the respective level of utilization of multimodal terminals. From the findings of the study, agents involved in the logistics of exporting soy to China can identify the investments in rail and port terminals necessary to a greener logistics. Originality / Value: This work will contribute to the literature in the Green Supply Chain Management field of study, especially in a Brazilian perspective.

Abstract: Consumer demand for consistently high quality meats has exposed a series of problems in the Brazilian frozen beef agro-industrial logistics chain arising from a lack of adequate infrastructure to cope with export flows. Based on interviews with the sector’s agents and on a comparative analysis of transportation costs, this paper aims to identify and evaluate infrastructure bottlenecks that affect the Brazilian frozen beef logistics chain and the economic gains that could be achieved by directing more frozen beef exports through the country’s Northern Arc ports. Among the results obtained from analyzes of frozen beef export flows from the state of Mato Grosso, the Brazilian state with the greatest number of plants that process beef for export, the use of Northern Arc ports can bring road transportation cost savings of up to 43% for some localities. It was also found that the lack of maritime shipping capacity, whether from restricted port capacity or infrequent ship departures, is one of the main logistical problems impeding the flow of frozen beef from ports inBrazil’s north.
Kindergarten teachers’ knowledge of and beliefs in the influence of music and movement on children’s self-regulation

Abstract: Un número creciente de estudios indica que la exposición temprana a la música y el movimiento (M& M) impacta positivamente en la autorregulación infantil. Sin embargo, se ha prestado poca atención a lo que las y los docentes de infantil saben y creen sobre la relación entre M& M y la autorregulación, y menos aún a cómo sus propias experiencias de M& M se relacionan con sus conocimientos y creencias. El presente estudio investiga dichos temas utilizando datos de encuestas de 306 maestros de infantil de Hong Kong. Se realizaron análisis descriptivos, de correlación y pruebas t de muestras independientes. La mayoría de participantes creían poseer un alto nivel de comprensión sobre el tema, en particular aquellas con experiencia en M& M. Dichas participantes tenían creencias más sólidas de que M& M fomenta la autorregulación infantil, específicamente las habilidades de coordinación motora, el control de impulsos y el manejo emocional. Concluimos que el conocimiento y las creencias de las y los docentes de infantil sobre el papel de la M& M para apoyar la autorregulación están influenciados por sus propias experiencias de M& M. A mayor experiencia, más profundo será su entendimiento sobre cómo la M& M contribuye a las habilidades de autorregulación infantil. La principal implicación es la necesidad de exponer aún más a las y los docentes de Infantil a las experiencias de aprendizaje de M& M, ya sea de manera formal o informal.

Abstract: Self-regulation (the ability to regulate emotion, attention, cognition and behaviour) is an integral part of early learning competence in the years prior to school. Self-regulation skills are critical to ongoing learning behaviours, achievement and well-being. Emerging neurological evidence suggests coordinated music and movement participation could support self-regulation development for all children. A pilot study in 2016 introduced a coordinated music and movement programme designed to boost self-regulation skills in children in disadvantaged communities, delivered by visiting specialists, with promising findings. The intervention is based on the neuroscience of beat synchronisation, rhythmic entrainment and the cognitive benefits of music therapy and music education—and is called Rhythm and Movement for Self-Regulation (RAMSR). This study builds on the pilot by training regular teachers to deliver RAMSR in their classrooms (rather than visiting specialists). The study aims to establish the effectiveness of RAMSR, which is designed to translate the cognitive benefits that accrue from rhythm participation to address self-regulation for children who do not typically access high-quality music programmes. We will recruit 237 children from up to eight kindergartens in low socioeconomic areas. Intervention: teachers will be trained to deliver the RAMSR intervention during group time in kindergartens, daily for 8 weeks. Control: usual practice kindergarten programme. Follow-up: end of intervention using child assessments and teacher report 12 months postbaseline using school teacher reports following school transition. Primary outcomes: executive function and self-regulation. Secondary outcomes: school readiness visual-motor integration teacher-reported behaviour problems, school transition and academic competency teacher knowledge, confidence, practice and attitudes related to self-regulation, rhythm and movement fidelity of intervention implementation. Feasibility and initial psychometric properties of the observe, reflect, improve children’s learning tool (ORICL) for early childhood services: A tool for building capacity in infant and toddler educators

Abstract: Child observation is a critical component of quality pedagogy in early childhood education and care (ECEC). The ORICL (Observe, Reflect, Improve Children’s Learning) tool was co-designed by ECEC researchers, policymakers, leaders, and practitioners to support this work. Educators rate the experiences of in idual children, and responses of educators and peers on 118 items across five domains. In this study of the utility of ORICL, the tool was used by 21 educators across 12 ECEC services for a total of 66 children. Descriptive statistical analyses were used to determine how educators used the full range of the ORICL rating scale, and the psychometric properties of the tool were explored. Findings suggest that the ORICL items can be readily observed and rated by educators for children aged under 3 years, the rating scale is appropriate, and there is early evidence to support the domain structure of the tool.

Abstract: Um dos procedimentos da Agricultura Orgânica (AO) é o processo de conversão, pelo qual a atividade agrícola em manejo convencional muda para o manejo orgânico. No caso do café, a conversão do sistema convencional para o orgânico pode trazer consigo, entre outros benefícios, a independência de insumos externos, menor risco para a saúde e pode proporcionar maior lucro ao produtor. Esta pesquisa tem como objetivo verificar a viabilidade econômica da produção orgânica de café no Sítio Terra Verde em Espírito Santo do Pinhal, no estado de São Paulo, para o processo de conversão da técnica convencional para a orgânica. Utilizou-se a metodologia de programação linear para maximizar o lucro e minimizar o custo de produção do café em dois cenários. O plano de conversão passou por três fases de manejo: substituição de insumos, conversão e produção orgânica. Os resultados mostraram que a adoção da técnica orgânica proporcionou ao cafeicultor lucros superiores aos do sistema convencional no final do período de conversão, quando ocorre aumento sobre o preço da saca. Conclui-se que pode ser economicamente viável a adoção da produção orgânica na cultura do café, mas é com extrema dependência do diferencial do preço entre os sistemas convencional e orgânico.

Abstract: Neste estudo foram desenvolvidos modelos para estimativas de preços implícitos de alguns atributos de qualidade em pêssegos comercializados no estado de São Paulo, em dois elos da cadeia: atacado e varejo. Os dados referentes aos preços de venda de pêssegos e às características de qualidade dos frutos (como cor, tamanho, tipos de variedade e tipos de danos) foram obtidos a partir de cortes seccionais no tempo. O Modelo de Preços Hedônicos foi proposto para valoração das características ao longo desse sistema de pós-colheita (2 elos). Os resultados obtidos permitiram identificar potenciais ganhos em cada elo da cadeia a partir do aprimoramento de atributos de qualidade dessa fruta.
Fitting a taper function to minimize the sum of absolute deviations

Abstract: Multiple product inventories of forests require accurate estimates of the diameter, length and volume of each product. Taper functions have been used to precisely describe tree form, once they provide estimates for the diameter at any height or the height at any diameter. This study applied a goal programming technique to estimate the parameters of two taper functions to describe in idual tree forms. The goal programming formulation generates parameters that minimize total absolute deviations (MOTAD). These parameters generated by the MOTAD method were compared to those of ordinary least squares (OLS) method. The analysis used a set of 178 trees cut from cloned eucalyptus plantations in the Southern part of the state of Bahia, Brazil. The values of the estimated parameters for the two taper functions resulted very similar when the two methods were compared. There was no significant difference between the two fitting methods according to the statistics used to evaluate the quality of the generated estimates. OLS and MOTAD resulted equally precise in the estimation of diameters and volumes outside and inside bark.

Fertilizer distribution flows and logistic costs in Brazil: changes and benefits arising from investments in port terminals

Abstract: This study analyzes the impact of anticipated investments to alter Brazilian port infrastructure on fertilizer flows and fertilizer transportation logistics costs using a linear programming model designed for the task. The most notable among these investments are directed toward accelerating port development in Brazil’s “Northern-Arc”, thereby increasing fertilizer supply to new markets opening throughout the country’s expanding agricultural frontier, particularly in northern Mato Grosso state, while increasing supply to existing markets. Results from model runs show that the anticipated port infrastructure investments should ensure nationwide fertilizer logistics savings of US$ 845 million over the 2017 through 2025 period. Although these estimated benefits are outstanding, the study indicates that further expansion of Brazil’s port system, particularly in the Northern-Arc, presents additional opportunities. Model projections were that in 2025, after all planned infrastructure improvements are operational, port terminals will be near full capacity, which should make planning for future projects a current priority.

Abstract: Background Growth in early self-regulation skills has been linked to positive health, wellbeing, and achievement trajectories across the lifespan. While in idual studies have documented specific influences on self-regulation competencies in early childhood, few have modelled a comprehensive range of predictors of self-regulation change across health, development, and environment simultaneously. This study aimed to examine the concurrent associations among a range of proximal and distal influences on change in children’s self-regulation skills over 2 years from age 4-5 years. Methods Data from the Longitudinal Study of Australian Children (N= 4983) were used in a structural equation model, predicting a multi-source composite measure of self-regulation at each of 4-5 years and 6-7 years. By controlling for earlier self-regulation and covariates, the model examined the relative contributions of a comprehensive range of variables to self-regulation change including health, development, educational, home environment, time-use, and neighbourhood characteristics. Results The significant predictors of children’s self-regulation growth across 4 to 7 years were fewer behavioural sleep problems, higher gross motor and pre-academic skills, lower levels of maternal and paternal angry parenting, and lower levels of financial hardship. There were also marginal effects for high-quality home learning environments and child-educator relationships. Conclusion Findings suggest that if we are to successfully foster children’s self-regulation skills, interventionists would do well to operate not only on children’s current capacities but also key aspects of their surrounding context.

Participation of Australian Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander families in a parent support programme: longitudinal associations between playgroup attendance and child, parent and community outcomes

Abstract: Playgroups are a relatively unique form of family support programme that is common in Australia which has high community acceptance and significant government investment. However, limited evidence exists regarding the effectiveness of playgroups to achieve better outcomes for children and their parents. This study describes patterns of playgroup participation for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander families with young children and examines the extent to which participation from birth to three years is associated with subsequent child, parent and community outcomes. This study uses three years of longitudinal data for 622 Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander children who were participants in the Longitudinal Study of Indigenous Children (LSIC). Longitudinal associations between playgroup attendance when children were age 2 and 3 years and outcome measures for child vocabulary, motor skills, behaviour problems, prosocial development, parent home learning engagement, resilience, advice-seeking and health service use, and community trustworthiness were examined using path analysis. Rates of playgroup participation in this s le group were generally lower than for Australian children overall. Playgroup attendance when children were age 2 to 3 years was associated with higher parental engagement in home learning activities when children were aged 4 years which, in turn, was associated with stronger expressive vocabulary scores for children. The findings from this study suggest that playgroup participation can enhance the home learning environments for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander children. Playgroups as a parent support programme hold strong potential to reach and engage families, particularly in areas of high geographic isolation, which can realize improved outcomes for children, parents and communities.

Abstract: Early childhood is a critical window for preventing obesity and chronic disease. Yet, 1 in 4 Australian children aged 5 years and under are affected by overweight or obesity and significant proportions of children under 5 years fail to meet guidelines for diet quality, physical activity (PA), screen time, and sleep. Consequently, effective interventions to promote healthy lifestyle behaviors and prevent obesity during early childhood are needed. Community playgroups provide an opportunity for parents, carers, and children to meet in a safe and relaxed environment to play and share information. The structure, low cost and reach of playgroups provide a unique platform to engage parents in a scalable program to promote healthful lifestyle behaviors and prevent childhood obesity. However, the evidence base for the effectiveness of health promotion programs delivered in community playgroup settings is limited and lacking credible evidence from rigorously conducted randomized controlled trials. The Healthy Conversations @ Playgroup randomized controlled trial (RCT) aims to address the underlying behavioral risk factors for obesity by helping parents take effective steps to improve their child’s dietary, PA, screen time, and sleep behaviors. The intervention program comprises 10 “healthy conversations” led by a trained peer facilitator, designed to increase parents’ behavioral capability and self-efficacy to implement autonomy-supportive parenting practices. The program will be delivered biweekly during regularly scheduled playgroup sessions over 10-weeks. Effectiveness will be tested in a 2-arm cluster RCT involving 60 community playgroups in three states across Australia. After baseline assessments, participating playgroups will be randomly allocated to either intervention or wait-list control conditions. Primary outcomes (vegetable intake, discretionary foods, daily PA, screen time, sleep duration, and body mass index [BMI] z-score) will be assessed at baseline, immediately post-intervention (10-weeks T2) and 6-months post-intervention (T3). Outcomes will be assessed for differential change at T2 and T3. The Healthy Conversations @ Playgroup trial will rigorously evaluate a novel peer-led intervention program to promote healthful lifestyle behaviors and prevent obesity in children and families attending community playgroups. If effective, the program could be immediately scaled-up and delivered in community playgroups across Australia. Trial registered 22nd January 2021 with the Australian and New Zealand Clinical Trials Registry ( ACTRN12621000055808 ).
Early predictors of escalating internalizing problems across middle childhood.

Abstract: The objective of this study is to examine the trajectory of internalizing problems across middle childhood among a population s le of Australian children, and to understand the timing of explanatory factors related to children's development of internalizing problems, by using multiple-indicator latent growth curve modeling. Participants were children, parents, and teachers in the Longitudinal Study of Australian Children (LSAC) Kindergarten (K) cohort (n = 3,153). Mothers reported on children's internalizing problems at 3 time points (6-7, 8-9, and 10-11 years). Explanatory factors included gender, emotional regulation skills, externalizing problems, peer relationships, parenting behaviors, socioeconomic status, and maternal mental health reported by mothers and teachers at 2 time points (4-5 years and 6-7 years). Growth modeling identified an increasing trajectory of internalizing problems over time. Initial levels were predicted by concurrent (6-7 years) emotional dysregulation, externalizing problems, angry parenting, and maternal mental health problems, as well as earlier (4-5 years) peer problems and maternal mental health. Escalation in internalizing problems was predicted by externalizing problems, peer problems, maternal mental health at 4-5 years, and emotional dysregulation and peer problems at 6-7 years. Girls had both higher initial levels and faster escalation of internalizing problems than boys. The findings provide ecological and developmental evidence and insights for effective intervention. Identifying and addressing early problems with peers may be particularly important to avoid the risk of escalating internalizing problems. Professional development sessions for educators to promote and support children's emotional regulation and peer interaction skills are likely to have a positive impact on children's well-being. Abstract: O suprimento de tomates para processamento industrial é uma atividade relativamente complexa. Plantas industriais de larga escala necessitam de elevados volumes diários de matéria-prima. Por outro lado, há alta perecibilidade dos frutos e a colheita ainda é predominantemente manual. Um modelo matemático foi desenvolvido com o propósito de entender objetivamente o processo de suprimento de tomate e, também, vislumbrar possibilidades de sua otimização. A simulação a partir do modelo pode gerar cenários que, quando comparados com o desempenho efetivamente observado em c o, evidenciam a importância da gestão acurada, com a presença de potenciais ganhos financeiros expressivos na cadeia de suprimentos a partir da redução de tempos, perdas e custos. As perdas de produto poderiam ser reduzidas de mais de 2% para algo inferior a 1%. A menor capacidade ociosa traduzir-se-ia em um menor custo de oportunidade e aumento de receita. Para uma fábrica com um consumo de tomates de 336 mil toneladas por ano, a melhoria no suprimento de matéria-prima poderia resultar em ganhos estimados em R$ 6 milhões por ano.
A Developmental Cascade Model of Behavioral Sleep Problems and Emotional and Attentional Self-Regulation Across Early Childhood

Abstract: This article documents the longitudinal and reciprocal relations among behavioral sleep problems and emotional and attentional self-regulation in a population s le of 4,109 children participating in Growing Up in Australia: The Longitudinal Study of Australian Children (LSAC)-Infant Cohort. Maternal reports of children's sleep problems and self-regulation were collected at five time-points from infancy to 8-9 years of age. Longitudinal structural equation modeling supported a developmental cascade model in which sleep problems have a persistent negative effect on emotional regulation, which in turn contributes to ongoing sleep problems and poorer attentional regulation in children over time. Findings suggest that sleep behaviors are a key target for interventions that aim to improve children's self-regulatory capacities.
A review of Australian Government funding of parenting intervention research

Abstract: Parenting is central to children's optimal development and accounts for a substantial proportion of the variance in child outcomes, including up to 40% of child mental health. Parenting is also one of the most modifiable, proximal, and direct factors for preventing and treating a range of children's problems and enhancing wellbeing. To determine the effectiveness of new approaches to parenting intervention, and to evaluate how to optimise reach and uptake, sufficient funding must be allocated for high quality research. We reviewed funding awarded by the National Health and Medical Research Council (NHMRC) and Australian Research Council (ARC) for parenting intervention research during 2011-2020. Parenting intervention research received 0.25% of the NHMRC and ARC research budgets. There is a substantial mismatch between the funding of parenting intervention research and the impact of improved parenting on short- and long-term child outcomes. To rectify this, it is critical that Australian Government funding schemes include parenting interventions as priority areas for funding. Changes in allocation of funding to parenting research will support the establishment of evidence for the effective development, implementation and dissemination of parenting interventions to maximise health outcomes for children and their families.
Measurement Invariance Across Sex and Language Background of a Self-Report Social-Emotional Learning Questionnaire for Middle Childhood

Abstract: This study investigates the measurement invariance of a brief self-report measure of childhood social-emotional competencies, the Middle Childhood Survey: Social-Emotional Learning (MCS-SEL), across demographic subgroups. Invariance was tested simultaneously among subgroups of children aged 11–12 years that were differentiated by sex (male, female) and main language spoken at home (English, not English). Multi-group confirmatory factor analysis evaluated structural and item-level invariance using two random, independent s les of 2,000 students (500 per demographic strata) selected by disproportionate s ling from the New South Wales Child Development Study (NSW-CDS) population cohort. The measure achieved full configural, metric, scalar, and residual invariance across all demographic subgroups, validating its utility for assessing middle childhood social-emotional competencies at a population-level.
School-Based Mental Health Promotion and Early Intervention Programs in New South Wales, Australia: Mapping Practice to Policy and Evidence

Abstract: Limited empirical evidence is available regarding the uptake and effectiveness of school-based mental health and wellbeing programs implemented in Australian schools. This study aimed to characterise the delivery of programs in primary (elementary) schools across New South Wales, Australia, and to assess this information against published ratings of program effectiveness. Delivery of programs in four health-promoting domains—creating a positive school community teaching social and emotional skills engaging the parent community and supporting students experiencing mental health difficulties—were reported by 597 school principals/leaders via online survey. Although three quarters of principals reported implementing at least one program, many of these programs were supported by little or no evidence of effectiveness. There was also variability in the use of evidence-based programs across the four domains. Findings indicate a need to provide educators with improved support to identify, implement, and evaluate effective evidenced-based programs that promote student mental health.

Abstract: This article discusses infant–toddler educators’ perspectives of using the Observe, Reflect, Improve Children’s Learning tool (ORICL) in practice. ORICL is a new tool informed by implementation science and co-designed with Australian early childhood education and care policy-makers, practitioners, and service providers. It aims to support infant–toddler educators to observe, reflect on, assess, and improve the quality of in idual children’s learning experiences. Twenty-one educators working in Australian long day care and family day care services participated in the study, with a total of 66 ORICLs being completed for children ranging from 7 to 33 months of age. Educators also participated in an interview to share their experiences of using ORICL in practice. Findings show that ORICL enhanced educators’ understandings of infants’ and toddlers’ learning, development and wellbeing, and educators’ critical reflection. ORICL also helped educators to notice interactions, document and plan for children’s learning, and communicate children’s learning to others.
Potencial e disponibilidade de biomassa de cana-de-açúcar na região Centro-Sul do Brasil: indicadores agroindustriais

Abstract: Resumo: A energia termelétrica, em especial a produzida por meio de biomassa de cana-de-açúcar, é uma alternativa sustentável ao abastecimento e à segurança energética do País, uma vez que é complementar e substituta primária da energia hidrelétrica. Com isso, o estudo tem por objetivo identificar qualitativa e quantitativamente o potencial e a disponibilidade de biomassas de cana-de-açúcar para uso energético e como matéria-prima à futura tecnologia de produção de etanol celulósico na região Centro-Sul. Realizou-se um levantamento de dados para a safra 2013/14 com 77 usinas visando obter indicadores agronômicos (oferta de bagaço e palha de cana-de-açúcar), tecnológicos (potencial de cogeração do setor) e mercadológicos (preços de energia elétrica, participação nos ambientes de comercialização). De modo geral, os indicadores agronômicos para uma usina típica no Brasil apresentaram moagem média de 3 milhões de toneladas, 8,1% de impureza vegetal e 88% de colheita mecanizada. Os indicadores tecnológicos evidenciaram que mais de 60% das caldeiras amostradas apresentaram tecnologia de baixa pressão de vapor (até 48 bar) e 69% dos turbogeradores amostrados foram do tipo contrapressão simples. Já para os indicadores mercadológicos verificou-se, para as usinas que exportaram energia, que houve participação de 53% no mercado regulado a preços médios de R$ 191,49/MWh.
National Study of an Early Parenting Intervention: Implementation Differences on Parent and Child Outcomes: Parenting Program Implementation

Abstract: Sing & Grow is a 10-week group music therapy intervention to promote positive parenting and child development for marginalized parents of birth to 3-year-old children. This paper examined whether changes from pre to post intervention varied according to implementation site, when the intervention was taken to scale nationally. Outcomes for 850 participants were compared for the site where the program was first established against three new locations one site where implementation processes were more favorable relative to the other two sites. Overall, the findings provided only limited support for differential outcomes by site of implementation. Participants showed significant improvements in parent-reported parenting and child outcomes from pre to post that were similar across all sites. For clinician-reported outcomes, improvements over time were generally greater in the original site and the well-supported site compared to the sites where there were more implementation difficulties. These differences were partly accounted for by differences in the characteristics of participants receiving programs in different sites and differences in the clinicians' ratings of program quality and the levels of support and training provided. However, confounding by the source of measurement requires cautious interpretation of clinician data. This study further highlights the potential for music therapy as an early parenting intervention, and the need for more rigorous evaluations in this field.

Latent Profiles of Teacher-Reported Self-Regulation and Assessed Executive Function in Low-Income Community Preschools: Relations With Motor, Social, and School Readiness Outcomes

Abstract: This study contributes to understandings of early childhood self-regulation and executive function, and their components, through taking a person-centered approach to investigating how these skills cluster together in children aged 4–5years. A s le of children ( N =206) from preschools in low socioeconomic communities were assessed through teacher report of self-regulation and three executive function tasks at the commencement of the preschool year. Outcome variables included teacher report of social skills and behavioral problems, and children’s school readiness and visual motor integration skills were directly assessed. When the scores from this low-income s le were compared to available norms, over 70% of children scored below the 50th percentile in executive function measures, approximately 20% were below average in self-regulation skills, 48% were delayed in school readiness scores, 36% had above average levels of internalizing problems, and 25% were above average in externalizing problems. A series of four latent profile models each used different measurement approaches and combinations of self-regulation and executive function components. In three of the four models (two which combined self-regulation and executive function measures and one with teacher report of self-regulation only), a high skill and low skill profile were found with 31 to 42% of children in the low profile depending on the model. Children were very similarly classified across all three models. When three executive function scores were modeled alone, a more complex three-profile solution emerged (low, moderate, and high) with 52% in the low profile. Children identified in the low profiles across all models were at greater risk of poorer school readiness, visual motor integration and social skills, and increased behavioral problems. Taken together, the findings suggest that self-regulation and executive function skills tend to cluster together at this age and in this low-income s le. Composite scores of teacher report of self-regulation are somewhat sufficient in identifying children who also have poorer executive function skills and are at risk of poorer motor, social, and school readiness outcomes. These children are an important target group for additional supports prior to school entry.

Abstract: Abstract Supplier selection processes generally evaluate several criteria in order to fulfill a demand. But, what if the demand itself could be rethought, spreading the possibilities of acquisition? What are the impacts in cost and utility of buying objectives instead of pre-determined materials? This work tries to expand this discussion with a mathematical programming approach to selecting suppliers with demand relaxation. The requirements for the framework development and application in purchasing departments are also pointed out. Its adoption in association with combinatorial auctions concepts in a hypothetical but realistic context suggests a high potential to cost reduction with no significant utility decrease.
The Effectiveness of a Short-Term Group Music Therapy Intervention for Parents Who Have a Child with a Disability

Abstract: The positive relationship between parent-child interactions and optimal child development is well established. Families of children with disabilities may face unique challenges in establishing positive parent-child relationships yet, there are few studies examining the effectiveness of music therapy interventions to address these issues. In particular, these studies have been limited by small s le size and the use of measures of limited reliability and validity. This study examined the effectiveness of a short-term group music therapy intervention for parents of children with disabilities and explored factors associated with better outcomes for participating families. Participants were 201 mother-child dyads, where the child had a disability. Pre- and post-intervention parental questionnaires and clinician observation measures were completed to examine outcomes of parental wellbeing, parenting behaviors, and child development. Descriptive data, t-tests for repeated measures and a predictive model tested via logistic regression are presented. Significant improvements pre to post intervention were found for parent mental health, child communication and social skills, parenting sensitivity, parental engagement with child and acceptance of child, child responsiveness to parent, and child interest and participation in program activities. There was also evidence for high parental satisfaction and that the program brought social benefits to families. Reliable change on six or more indicators of parent or child functioning was predicted by attendance and parent education. This study provides positive evidence for the effectiveness of group music therapy in promoting improved parental mental health, positive parenting and key child developmental areas.
Implementation of a rhythm and movement intervention to support self-regulation skills of preschool-aged children in disadvantaged communities

Abstract: Self-regulation skills are an important predictor of school readiness and early school achievement. Research identifies that experiences of early stress in disadvantaged households can affect young children’s brain architecture, often manifested in poor self-regulatory functioning. Although there are documented benefits of coordinated movement activities to improve self-regulation, few interventions have focused exclusively on music and rhythmic activities. This study explores the effectiveness of a preschool intervention, delivered across 8 weeks, which focused on coordinated rhythmic movement with music to improve self-regulation and executive function. The study involved 113 children across three preschools in disadvantaged communities. The intervention group received 16 sessions of a rhythm and movement program over 8 weeks, whereas the control group undertook the usual preschool program. Executive functions were directly assessed, and teachers reported on children’s self-regulation before and after the intervention. Path analyses found positive intervention effects for emotional regulation reported by teachers and, for boys, on the measure of shifting in the executive function assessment. Teacher-reported cognitive and behavioral regulation also improved in one research site. These early findings suggest that a rhythm and movement intervention has the potential to support the development of self-regulation skills in preschool however, further research is required.

Abstract: O objetivo desta pesquisa é apresentar duas abordagens para o ensino remoto de Pesquisa Operacional e avaliar seus impactos em dois aspectos: a percepção dos discentes em relação à facilidade de aprendizagem e as notas efetivamente alcançadas com cada um dos métodos de ensino utilizados. O trabalho é um estudo de caso que combina métodos quantitativos e qualitativos. Foram coletados dados primários por meio de questionário com perguntas fechadas e, ao final de cada uma das aulas os alunos também responderam questões abertas relacionadas ao assunto apresentado. Os dados foram analisados por meio de estatística descritiva e análise de conteúdo. Ao final da primeira atividade, 10 dos 24 alunos postaram as respostas solicitadas. Na segunda aula, o número subiu para 23. A média das notas dos alunos com a primeira abordagem foi de 20%, valor que subiu para 50% com a segunda. As duas abordagens apresentadas mostraram-se viáveis para serem utilizadas remotamente. O grau de participação, percepção em relação ao aprendizado e o desempenho em si foram superiores na segunda aula. Em relação ao interesse e curiosidade dos alunos pelo assunto, não houve diferenças substanciais, considerando a primeira e a segunda aula. Foi possível perceber que quanto mais a abordagem se aproxima da realidade, maior foi a facilidade dos alunos e melhor foi o desempenho deles na tomada de decisão. Reflexões acerca de metodologias de ensino utilizadas ao longo do tempo nunca cessam e tendem a contribuir para o aprimoramento do processo de ensino-aprendizagem em todos os níveis da educação.
Ações e políticas para redução da emissão de CO2 no transporte de cargas do Brasil

Abstract: Dois aspectos estão se tornando cada vez mais cruciais no planejamento de sistemas de transporte eficientes: desempenho energético do transporte e emissão de CO2. O transporte inter-regional de cargas é um dos que mais emite CO2 no Brasil, em função da grande quantidade de mercadorias que precisa ser transportada em rotas de longas distâncias, majoritariamente por meio de caminhões, devido à escassez de infraestrutura intermodal. É de lo conhecimento que o modo rodoviário de transporte apresenta elevado consumo de diesel e emissão de CO2 por tonelada de carga transportada. Caso o país não coloque em prática ações e políticas com o objetivo de melhorar a eficiência energética, o transporte de cargas deverá intensificar expressivamente seu impacto sobre as mudanças climáticas, dificultando que o país atinja a meta de redução de CO2 acordada durante a COP21. Em vista disso, este artigo tem como objetivo fazer uma análise exploratória das principais ações e políticas recomendadas para reduzir as emissões de CO2 do transporte de cargas no Brasil, e mensurar quantitativamente seus impactos. A análise fundamenta-se na matriz origem e destino de cargas projetada pela Empresa de Planejamento e Logística, usada como base para mensurar as emissões de CO2 e os impactos das ações recomendadas nesse estudo, comparando-se a emissão estimada para 2015 e 2025. Os resultados revelam que as ações recomendadas têm potencial para reduzir 39% da emissão anual de CO2 em 2025 no país, o que significa evitar a emissão de 43 milhões de toneladas de CO2 por ano no transporte de mercadorias. Além disso, as ações e políticas sugeridas resultam também em ganhos econômicos na forma de redução de custos de transporte, o que tende a favorecer a implantação das ações com baixa dependência de financiamento público.

Abstract: Adolescence is a unique and challenging period of growth, change and possible turmoil as a young person transitions towards adulthood. The capacity to provide quality parenting at this time is likely to be compromised because the teenage mother simultaneously experiences the challenges of adolescence and first time parenthood. Research suggests that teenage mothers are significantly less supportive, more detached, more intrusive, and more negative / hostile, when compared to older mothers, and may be less able to provide a stimulating learning environment. Sing & Grow is a national early intervention music therapy project provided by Playgroup Associations and funded by the Commonwealth Government of Australia. The project provides 10 weekly group music therapy sessions to parent and child (aged 0 to 3 years) dyads from families in communities identified as marginal as a result of various circumstances, including adolescent and young parenthood. Outcomes of clinical programmes conducted to date show that the central provision of music has been successful in promoting a range of non-musical parenting outcomes for adolescent and young mothers. This includes observed increases in their repertory of skills in relating to and interacting with their child in more gentle and nurturing ways.
Academic resilience from school entry to third grade: Child, parenting, and school factors associated with closing competency gaps

Abstract: There is substantial evidence confirming that children who begin school with strong developmental skills tend to maintain positive academic trajectories across the elementary school years. Much less is known about children who begin school with poorer developmental competencies yet go on to achieve academically on par with, or above, their initially more competent peers, demonstrating academic resilience. This study used a large population dataset, the Longitudinal Study of Australian Children (n = 2,118) to identify children who demonstrated academic resilience between school entry and third grade, and the child, parenting, and school characteristics associated with this resilience. Findings show that two in five children who were initially identified as academically vulnerable on a school entry measure of language and cognitive skills were classified as academically resilient by Grade 3. In multivariate analysis, higher attentional regulation and receptive vocabulary skills were key factors associated with academic resilience in reading and numeracy, along with paternal consistency (for reading resilience) and fewer sleep problems (for numeracy resilience). Bivariate relations (ANOVAs) showed that resilient children, when compared to children who remained vulnerable, also showed fewer peer problems, fewer behavioral sleep problems, higher levels of parenting consistency and lower levels of parenting anger by mothers and fathers, higher levels of parental engagement in children’s school, and higher levels of teacher self-efficacy. Supporting resilient pathways for children who are identified as vulnerable at school entry should include a particular focus on vocabulary development and attentional regulation, along with social skills and peer relationships, school-based parental engagement, and positive parenting support.

Abstract: Esta pesquisa objetivou analisar metodologias para elaboração de índices de preços para o transporte de cargas. O estudo das principais fórmulas da Teoria Econômica culminou com a conclusão que os Índices de Fisher e Walsh são aqueles capazes de atender ao maior número de preceitos lógicos, estatísticos e econômicos. Em seguida, surgem os índices geométricos de Törnqvist, Vartia e Theil. Os Índices de Laspeyres e Paasche, apesar de apresentarem algumas limitações, acabam sendo lamente utilizados, graças a maior capacidade de operacionalização. A pesquisa apresentou um estudo de caso para o transporte da soja em grão. Foram realizados quatro tratamentos. Obteve-se a variação acumulada no nível geral de preços para o transporte rodoviário de soja no Brasil, no período entre fevereiro de 1998 e março de 2002. De acordo com os resultados, essa variação acumulada teria sido de 76%.
Fertilizer freight rate disparity in Brazil: a regional approach

Abstract: An increase in Brazilian agricultural product exportation with a concurrent increase in the use of fertilizer has put pressure on the country’s already overtaxed transportation system and expanded the number and intensity of transportation bottlenecks, especially during the grain harvest and planting seasons. Problems with the transportation system have led to an increase in fertilizer transportation costs and a disproportionate increase in fertilizer’s share of total agricultural production costs, highlighting the need to discover the most economic fertilizer transportation routes. Our research found a significant variance in fertilizer transportation costs among different Brazilian transport regions, referred to as transport corridors in this study. Literature on the subject has found that regional fertilizer shipping price variations are often contingent on the presence of shipping intensive industries, ports and storage centers. Using a comparative analysis based on an econometric model, this study examines the effect of intra-regional fertilizer transportation routes on shipping costs and clarifies the dynamics of fertilizer transport in Brazil.
Optimization of the production planning and trade of lily flowers at Jan de Wit Company

Abstract: Jan de Wit Company implemented a decision-support system based on linear programming as a production-planning and trade tool for the management of its lily flower business. The LP maximizes the farm's total contribution margin, subject to such constraints as market-defined sales limits, market requirements, characteristics of the production cycle duration, technical requirements, bulb inventory, and greenhouse limitations. The main decision variable to be calculated is the number of flower beds in a specific greenhouse, from a specific bulb batch, of a specific variety, for a specific purpose, taking into consideration planting and expected harvesting weeks. Between 1999 and 2000, company revenue grew 26 percent, sales increased 14.8 percent for pots of lilies and 29.3 percent for bunches of lilies, costs fell from 87.9 to 84.7 percent of sales, income from operations increased 60 percent, return on owner's equity went from 15.1 to 22.5 percent, and best quality cut lilies jumped from 11 to 61 percent of the quantities sold. The system also suggested changes in the product mix.

Energy potential of sugarcane biomass: An application of optimal location modeling

Abstract: Bagasse and trash (leaves left in the field), two sugarcane processing byproducts, are underexploited resources that can be used to provide energy. In Brazil, the development of this readily available lignocellulose biomass as feedstock for energy production would ersify the country’s energy matrix and increase its energy security. This study is intended to identify and quantify the energy potential of sugarcane biomass in the forms of bagasse and trash, determine the optimal allocation of these byproducts as energy producers, and identify advantageous locations for biomass electrical generation and cellulosic ethanol production in Brazil’s Centre-South. Two scenarios were created and analyzed using a model built to evaluate the potential economic value of sugarcane bagasse and trash from the perspective of energy output. The scenarios incorporate alternative input mixes, plant locations, and time frames. Scenario 1 is designed to define the optimal allocation of bagasse and trash from the 2013/14 harvest season while Scenario 2 is designed to define the optimal allocation of this biomass from 2021 thru 2025. Using Scenario 1 parameters, cellulosic ethanol production was not advised and a negligible number of new or expanded generation facilities were recommended. Interestingly, there was found to be potential for the production of almost twice as much exportable electricity, 40,000 GWh, as was actually produced. Using Scenario 2 parameters, it was found that annual profit maximization would come from the production of approximately 9 mn m3 of cellulosic ethanol from 68 new refinery facilities and that 36,000 GWh of exportable electricity should be generated.

A translational application of music for preschool cognitive development: RCT evidence for improved executive function, self‐regulation, and school readiness

Abstract: The benefits of active music participation and training for cognitive development have been evidenced in multiple studies, with this link leveraged in music therapy approaches with clinical populations. Although music, rhythm, and movement activities are widely integrated into children's play and early education, few studies have systematically translated music therapy‐based approaches to a nonclinical population to support early cognitive development. This study reports the follow‐up effects of the Rhythm and Movement for Self Regulation (RAMSR) program delivered by generalist preschool teachers in low socioeconomic communities. This randomized control trial (RCT) involved 213 children across eight preschools in disadvantaged communities in Queensland, Australia. The intervention group received 16–20 sessions of RAMSR over 8 weeks, while the control group undertook usual preschool programs. Primary outcome measures included executive function (child assessment of shifting, working memory, and inhibition) and self‐regulation (teacher report), with secondary outcomes of school readiness and visual‐motor integration. Data were collected pre‐ and post‐intervention, and again 6 months later once children had transitioned into school. Results demonstrated significant intervention effects across the three time points for school readiness ( p = 0.038, η p 2 = 0.09), self‐regulation ( p 0.001, η p 2 = 0.08), and inhibition ( p = 0.002 η p 2 = 0.23). Additionally, the feasibility of building capacity in teachers without any music background to successfully deliver the program was evidenced. These findings are important given that children from low socioeconomic backgrounds are more likely to need support for cognitive development yet have inequitable access to quality music and movement programs. Initial effects of self‐regulation from a rhythm and movement program were sustained following transition into school for children from disadvantaged backgrounds. Delayed effects of inhibition and school readiness from a rhythm and movement program appeared 6 months post‐intervention as children entered school. Generalist teachers can successfully implement a rhythm and movement program, which boosts critical developmental cognitive skills.

Early childhood profiles of sleep problems and self‐regulation predict later school adjustment

Abstract: Children's sleep problems and self-regulation problems have been independently associated with poorer adjustment to school, but there has been limited exploration of longitudinal early childhood profiles that include both indicators. This study explores the normative developmental pathway for sleep problems and self-regulation across early childhood and investigates whether departure from the normative pathway is associated with later social-emotional adjustment to school. This study involved 2,880 children participating in the Growing Up in Australia: The Longitudinal Study of Australian Children (LSAC) - Infant Cohort from Wave 1 (0-1 years) to Wave 4 (6-7 years). Mothers reported on children's sleep problems, emotional, and attentional self-regulation at three time points from birth to 5 years. Teachers reported on children's social-emotional adjustment to school at 6-7 years. Latent profile analysis was used to establish person-centred longitudinal profiles. Three profiles were found. The normative profile (69%) had consistently average or higher emotional and attentional regulation scores and sleep problems that steadily reduced from birth to 5 years. The remaining 31% of children were members of two non-normative self-regulation profiles, both characterized by escalating sleep problems across early childhood and below mean self-regulation. Non-normative group membership was associated with higher teacher-reported hyperactivity and emotional problems, and poorer classroom self-regulation and prosocial skills. Early childhood profiles of self-regulation that include sleep problems offer a way to identify children at risk of poor school adjustment. Children with escalating early childhood sleep problems should be considered an important target group for school transition interventions.

The Feeding Practices and Structure Questionnaire (FPSQ-28): A parsimonious version validated for longitudinal use from 2 to 5 years

Abstract: Prospective studies and intervention evaluations that examine change over time assume that measurement tools measure the same construct at each occasion. In the area of parent-child feeding practices, longitudinal measurement properties of the questionnaires used are rarely verified. To ascertain that measured change in feeding practices reflects true change rather than change in the assessment, structure, or conceptualisation of the constructs over time, this study examined longitudinal measurement invariance of the Feeding Practices and Structure Questionnaire (FPSQ) subscales (9 constructs 40 items) across 3 time points. Mothers participating in the NOURISH trial reported their feeding practices when children were aged 2, 3.7, and 5 years (N = 404). Confirmatory Factor Analysis (CFA) within a structural equation modelling framework was used. Comparisons of initial cross-sectional models followed by longitudinal modelling of subscales, resulted in the removal of 12 items, including two redundant or poorly performing subscales. The resulting 28-item FPSQ-28 comprised 7 multi-item subscales: Reward for Behaviour, Reward for Eating, Persuasive Feeding, Overt Restriction, Covert Restriction, Structured Meal Setting and Structured Meal Timing. All subscales showed good fit over 3 time points and each displayed at least partial scalar (thresholds equal) longitudinal measurement invariance. We recommend the use of a separate single item indicator to assess the family meal setting. This is the first study to examine longitudinal measurement invariance in a feeding practices questionnaire. Invariance was established, indicating that the subscales of the shortened FPSQ-28 can be used with mothers to validly assess change in 7 feeding constructs in s les of children aged 2-5 years of age.
