Abstract: Six Salmonella Typhi or Paratyphi human challenge studies were conducted, and daily stool cultures performed. Vi-containing vaccines reduced bacterial shedding, Ty21a or an experimental vaccine did not. Higher Vi immunoglobulin G titers were associated with reduced shedding.
