Abstract: Magnetic nanoparticles have emerged as important players in current research in modern medicine since they can be used in medicine for diagnosis and/or therapeutic treatment of diseases. Among many therapeutic applications of iron-based nanoparticles, drug delivery and photothermal therapy are of particular interest. At cellular level their uptake has been studied and the mechanism by which nanoparticles enter into the cell has important implication not only for their fate but also for their impact on the biological systems. We present here a dynamic investigation of interaction of biocompatible iron oxide nanoparticles coated with L-3,4-dihydroxyphenylalanine and labeled with tetra-methylrhodamine-5/6-isothiocyanate with lung epithelial cells. Our data show that after macropinocytosis-mediated internalization, nanoparticles in form of vesicles approach the nucleus and converge in the more acidic compartments of the cells in a microtubule-dependent manner. During progression the nanoparticles aggregate. Finally, we have demonstrated that a converging laser radiation on the cells, causes the increase in the local temperature and thus damages the cells, suggesting that these nanoparticles may be applied for photothermal therapy studies.

Abstract: Heterogeneous binary arrays of metallic nanoparticles have been constructed by consecutively depositing gold and silver into monolayers of hexagonally close-packed latex spheres at the incidence angles of 15 and -15 degrees, followed by removal of the colloidal masks. The present approach is independent of the chemical nature of both colloidal masks and deposition materials. The pattern feature of the resulting binary nanoparticle arrays is dependent on the colloidal mask registry.

Abstract: The present article is devoted to systematically exploring the influence of various experimental variables, including the precursor concentration, the ligand nature, the counterion type, the Cd-to-Te molar ratio, pH, and temperature, on the aqueous growth of CdTe nanocrystals. The growth may be ided into two stages: the early fast growth stage and the later slow growth stage. The later stage is found to be dominated by Ostwald ripening (OR), being strongly dependent on all experimental conditions. In contrast, the early stage is dominated by adding monomers to nanocrystals, which may be dramatically accelerated by lowering precursor concentrations and using ligands with a molecular structure similar to that of thioglycolic acid (TGA). This fast growth stage is similar to that observed during organometallic growth of nanocrystals in hot organic media. On the basis of this finding, one-dimensional wurtzite CdTe nanostructures can be directly prepared in aqueous media by storing rather dilute precursor solution (2.4 mM with reference to ligand) in the presence of TGA at lower temperature (from room temperature to 80 degrees C). A low growth temperature is used to suppress OR during crystal growth. In addition, the simultaneous presence of both TGA-like ligand and 1-thioglycerol or 2-mercaptoethylamine leads to formation of colloidally stable 1D CdTe nanostructures with controlled aspect ratios.
Optical properties of nanoparticle-based metallodielectric inverse opals

Abstract: Metallodielectric inverse opals were prepared by co-crystallizing silica-coated gold nanoparticles and polymer spheres, followed by removal of the crystal template. The inverse opals exhibit a distinct reflectance peak, which results from Bragg diffraction due to the highly ordered 3D macroporous structure. Photonic band-structure calculations indicate that the characteristic reflectance peaks observed are signatures of the directional gap at the L point. It is demonstrated that the optical properties (the position and magnitude of the electromagnetic bandgaps) of the gold-silica nanocomposite inverse opals can be engineered by varying the nanoparticle morphology (core size and shell thickness) and/or the nanoparticle volume-filling ratio of the composite. The use of metallodielectric nanoparticles to form inverse opals offers a versatile approach to prepare photonic materials that may exhibit absolute bandgaps.

Performing and undoing identity online: Social networking, identity theories and the incompatibility of online profiles and friendship regimes

Abstract: This article aims to expand the critical frameworks by which online social networking can be contextualised and understood within the broader cultural practices of identity and selfhood. Utilising Judith Butler’s theories of performative identity, it is argued that the use of social networking sites are performative acts in and of themselves. Two facets of social networking are examined from theoretical and critical perspectives: (1) the use of social networking profiles (Info pages, taste selections, biographies) as a tool for performing, developing and stabilising identity as a narrative in line with cultural demands for coherence, intelligibility and recognition (2) identity performances that occur through relationality among online friends through list maintenance and communication (wall posts, tagging, commentary), and how identity is reconfigured within a network morphology. Finally, the article aims to open discussion around the broad cultural practices and implications of online social networking by developing some theoretical approaches to understanding the incompatibilities between these two facets which compete and risk the ‘undoing’ of online identity coherence. Within the framework of the growing use of social networking sites as one area in which our selfhood and subjectivity are performed, this incompatibility and undoing has both risks and benefits for future the cultural production of identity.
Populist contestations: Cultural change and the competing languages of sexual and gender identity

Abstract: There has been a vast proliferation of categories, descriptors and labels used to describe gender and sexual identity over the past few years, with terms now numbering in the hundreds. Many terms, such as heteroflexible, asexual, demigirl and sapiosexual actively contest masculine/feminine and hetero/homo binary arrangements of identity, and LGBTQ minority rights discourses and arguably represent an epochal shift in gender/sexual knowledge frameworks. The cultural conditions that make such change possible have yet to be explored. This paper draws on theoretical approaches to populism to analyse the role of popular culture, digital communication and contestation of institutional and expert knowledges in driving the emergence of new gender and sexual terminology.

Abstract: This article presents a critical account of heterosexual men’s online sex webcam performances in terms of the capacity for challenging or disrupting heteronormativity and opening the field for the representation of a greater range of heterosexualities. Using a narrative analysis of selected ex les of heterosexual performances on visual sex sites, it is argued that a deeply felt attachment to heterosexual identity coexists in complex, critical, and potentially disruptive ways with a contemporary, online approach to erse, in idualized sexual practices. Investigating ex les of male performers who articulate an avowed heterosexual identity but perform acts for a gay male spectatorship and engage in practices such as self-penetration that are discursively marked by nonheterosexuality, this article explores the potential for the productive disruption of normative views of masculine heterosexuality without the need to resort to a free-floating argument for sexual fluidity. It is argued that, while heteronormativity is disrupted in such sites, masculinity has the capacity to reincorporate nonheterosexual behaviors and acts.

Abstract: By using O2-plasma etched monolayers of hexagonally close-packed latex spheres as masks for metal vapor deposition, we successfully demonstrate a stepwise colloidal lithography to stepwise grow highly ordered multiplex quasi-three-dimensional grids of metallic one-dimensional nanostructures, e.g., nanowires and nanorods. The success of the present approach is centered at manipulation of the incidence angle of metal vapor beams with respect to the normal direction of colloidal masks and particularly the azimuth angle phi of the projection of the vapor beam incidence on the masks with respect to the vector from one sphere to the nearest neighbors. Stepwise deposition of different metals by regularly varying phi allows consecutively stacking of 1D nanostructures into multiplex quasi-3D grids. This stepwise angle-resolved colloidal lithography should provide a significant nanochemical complement of conventional lithographic techniques, enabling us to easily fabricate sophisticated 3D nanostructures with defined vertical and lateral heterogeneity.

Queer generations: Theorizing a concept

Abstract: This article reflects on the concept of ‘queer generations’ as developed in the context of an ongoing study about belonging and sexual citizenship among two social generations of gender and sexual minority youth in Australia. We define the concepts ‘queer’ and ‘generations’ in the context of recent theoretical interest in temporality in childhood and youth studies in an attempt to think differently about gender and sexual difference. The main theoretical tension that lies at the heart of this article is how to take seriously the shared experience of growing up LGBT without insisting on a uniform narrative that is inherent to it. Drawing on an archival fragment from an HIV c aign produced in Australia and distributed in the 1990s and targeted at young gay and bisexual men, we consider the shifting conditions through which visibility has featured as a key problem for the deployment of sexual citizenship. This archival fragment is valuable because of the way that it problematizes the in/out, visible/invisible, gay/straight binaries that have dogged attempts to grapple with the at once in idual and collective experience of growing up LGBT. The concept of ‘queer generations’ suggests critical insights into the limits and affordances of the production of generations as containers for generalized experience.
Remedying disinformation and fake news? The cultural frameworks of fake news crisis responses and solution-seeking

Abstract: For the past half-decade, disinformation and misinformation have been discussed in the public sphere as the construct ‘fake news’, through a discourse of crisis and, increasingly, in terms of responses, remedies, solutions, interventions and preventative affordances. This article explores the emergence of the crisis–remedy discourse of disinformation, arguing that responsiveness is grounded in a solutionism that positions ‘fake news’ as crisis. Drawing on select ex les, we use a cultural approach to analyse a range of remedies put forward in public sphere, policy and scholarly discourse. We identify three frameworks of the crisis–remedy discourse: alarmism, regulation/eradication, and adaptation. The article presents ex les of five remedial approaches and theorises their alignment with different crisis frameworks. By thinking through the cultural formation of different remedies, we aim to draw out cultural studies’ utility in future efforts to determine the efficacy and ethics of current and future solutions to disinformation.
Hydrogel‐Assisted Transfer of Graphene Oxides into Nonpolar Organic Media for Oil Decontamination

Abstract: In this work, graphene oxide (GO)-loaded agarose hydrogel was transferred into oil such as hexadecane via stepwise solvent exchange with no chemical modification of the GO hydrophilic surface and the agarose network. After transfer, the GOs, loaded in the agarose network, could effectively and efficiently adsorb lipophilic dyes in oil via hydrogen bonding between the polar groups of the GOs and the dyes. The maximum adsorption capacity was 355.9 mg g(-1) for Nile red for instance, which is substantially larger than that of pristine agarose hydrogel and hydrophilic GO powder. The dye concentration for effective adsorption can be as low as 0.5 ppm. Thus, the present work demonstrates the promising potential of using hydrophilic adsorbents for efficient removal of polar impurities from oil.

Rapid Seeded Growth of Monodisperse, Quasi-Spherical, Citrate-Stabilized Gold Nanoparticles via H2O2 Reduction

Abstract: In this report, we demonstrate a rapid and simple seeded growth method for synthesizing monodisperse, quasi-spherical, citrate-stabilized Au nanoparticles (Au NPs) via H(2)O(2) reduction of HAuCl(4). Au NPs with diameter ranging from 30 to 230 nm can be synthesized by simply adding 12 nm citrate stabilized Au NP seeds to an aqueous solution of H(2)O(2) and HAuCl(4) under ambient conditions. The diameter of the resulting Au NPs can be quantitatively controlled by the molar ratio of HAuCl(4) to the Au seeds. The standard deviation of the Au NP sizes is less than 10%, and the ellipticity (ratio of major to minor axes) of the NPs is less than 1.1. Compared to existing ones, the present seeded growth approach is implemented within 1 min under ambient condition, and no unfavorable additives are involved because H(2)O(2) can readily decompose into H(2)O during storage or via boiling.

Abstract: Interfacial nanobubbles (INBs) on a solid surface in contact with water have drawn widespread research interest. Although several theoretical models have been proposed to explain their apparent long lifetimes, the underlying mechanism still remains in dispute. In this work, the morphological evolution of INBs was examined in air-equilibrated and partially degassed water with the use of atomic force microscopy (AFM). Our results show that (1) INBs shrank in the partially degassed water while they grew slightly in the air-equilibrated water, (2) the three-phase boundary of the INBs was pinned during the morphological evolution of the INBs. Our analyses show that (1) the lifetime of INBs was sensitive to the saturation level of dissolved gases in the surrounding water, especially when the concentration of dissolved gases was close to saturation, and (2) the pinning of the three-phase boundary could significantly slow down the kinetics of both the growth and the shrinkage of the INBs. We developed a one-dimensional version of the Epstein-Plesset model of gas diffusion to account for the effect of pinning.

Abstract: In this work, we demonstrated effective adsorption of poly(acrylic acid) (PAA) in saline water on various hydrophobic substrates, ranging from polyethylene and polytetrafluoroethylene, to form densely packed monolayers with water contact angle as low as 6.5° in air. This was a result of the synergy of long-range hydrophobic interactions between in idual PAA chains and hydrophobic surfaces and short-range hydrogen bonding between neighboring PAA chains, reminiscent of the interaction balance encountered in biofouling. Abstract: The experience of hostility, hate speech and adversarial behaviour in everyday online spaces has increased substantially in recent years, with known health and mental health outcomes for users. This paper argues that due to the ‘massified’ form of contemporary hostility experienced in the internet ‘pile on’, a new framework for understanding and remedying hostility is required. This paper draws on Judith Butler’s theories of identity to present an account of digital hostility as cultural and as having a negative effect on the identities and selfhood of users. It discusses the impact of the online pile-on, shaming and the ways in which hostility positions victims as ungrievable subjects. The essay recommends new ethical approaches grounded in the recognition of subjects as vulnerable, arguing that cultural ethics approaches are valuable not only as public pedagogies but for development of technological solutions and moderation interventions to help prevent hostility and hate speech.

Synthesis of Monodisperse Quasi-Spherical Gold Nanoparticles in Water via Silver(I)-Assisted Citrate Reduction

Abstract: We demonstrate a simple and reproducible way to produce quasi-spherical Au nanoparticles (NPs) with a fairly narrow size distribution in water by rapidly adding a mixture solution of HAuCl(4), sodium citrate, and a trace amount of silver nitrate into boiling water. The sizes of quasi-spherical Au NPs obtained increases from 12 +/- 1 nm to 18 +/- 3, 25 +/- 3, and 36 +/- 3 nm with decrease of the citrate concentration in a fairly linear way. The present protocol can efficiently minimize the effect of citrate to buffer the pH of the reaction media and thus change the type and reactive activity of auric ions and significantly speed up the nucleation and growth rate of Au NPs. The presence of Ag(+) ions can not only suppress the secondary nucleation but also reshape the polycrystalline Au NPs into a quasi-spherical shape. In the case of synthesis of Au NPs of sizes ranging from 10 to 36 nm, our approach efficiently makes up the shortages of the classical Turkevich method with respect to the reproducibility and uniformity of the NP size and shape.

Abstract: Polydopamine (PDA)-Au Janus particles were obtained by simply adding HAuCl(4) to a PDA particle suspension, prepared via self-polymerization of dopamine in basic solution at room temperature. The structures of the PDA-Au particles are readily controlled by electrostatic repulsion between the constituent particles, which can be realized simply via adjusting the environmental pH. PDA-Au Janus particles are formed only in a narrow pH range of 2.5-3.0 due to the properly enhanced electrostatic repulsion between the Au particles growing on as-prepared PDA particles and between the Au and PDA particles. Abstract: Following the development of online sites dedicated to the preservation of in iduals’ photographic and textual memorialisation of cities, a number of archiving sites using Facebook have been developed that cater to the interactive and co-creative practice of memorialising LGBTQ (lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender and queer) city-based communities, events and public spaces (e.g. Lost Gay Perth and Lost Gay Melbourne). Such minority community practices of memorialisation invoke deeply felt and affective attachments to ‘past’ in ways which have implications for identity, belonging, ageing and agency. This article utilises a critical approach to archiving, temporality, identity and attachment to interrogate some of the ways in which digital cultural practices related to archiving social networking sites are implicated in the memorialisation of community belonging through notions of past, networks of knowing, and the temporal and historical production of ways of thinking about and knowing minority sexuality, particularly LGBTQ subjectivity.

Abstract: This paper discusses findings from a commissioned evaluation of an Australian government COVID-19 health c aign that utilised third-party influencers to increase the reach of health communication messages among culturally and linguistically erse young people. Although the c aign was successful, interviews with select influencers and target audience members indicated that the ‘serious’ tone of the health messaging was less effective and less likely to be shared and that messages should be more ‘entertaining’. Analyses of data indicated three themes providing insights into how future c aigns may benefit from a focus that draws together health information and entertainment using models already constructed in the entertainment–education field: (1) Entertaining health messages have a stronger fit with influencers who are known for their entertainment value (2) Entertaining messages are more memorable and more likely to be shared (3) A balance between entertainment and the signifiers of trust and credibility such as government health authority logos overcomes trust issues in the context of current health disinformation and misinformation.

A Simple Poly(Vinyl Sulfonate) Coating for All‐Purpose, Self‐Cleaning Applications: Molecular Packing Density–Defined Surface Superhydrophilicity

Abstract: In this study, poly(vinyl sulfonate) (PVS)–capped surfaces are constructed on the polyelectrolyte multilayers (PEMs) of poly(diallyldimethylammonium chloride) and poly(styrene sulfonate) via electrostatic assembly. The water wetting behavior on the resulting PVS‐capped PEMs is meticulously correlated with the number of surface sulfonate groups with the aid of sum frequency generation spectroscopy and quartz crystal microbalance. It is found that when the molecular packing density of surface sulfonate groups is adjusted to be comparable to the maximal packing density of spheres in two dimensions (≈0.9), the PVS capping is able to effectively adsorb water molecules from the surrounding to form hydrogen‐bonded networks, which not only promote complete surface wetting by water in air but also diminish surface affinity to adhesion of ice, oil and wax deposited atop. As a result, the PVS‐capped PEMs are able to fulfil all the self‐cleaning functions proposed for superhydrophilic surfaces including anti‐fogging, anti‐icing, anti‐grease, anti‐smudge, anti‐graffiti, and anti‐wax. After being coated with the self‐cleaning PVS‐capped PEMs, conventional stainless steel meshes are able to perform oil‐water separation without prior water wetting.

Abstract: A new and versatile way--using poly(dimethylsiloxane) (PDMS) sheets to layer-by-layer (LbL) transfer hexagonal-close-packed particle monolayers from preformed colloidal crystals and stack them on substrates-has been demonstrated to create colloidal crystals. This approach allows LbL control of the thickness of the resulting crystals and especially of the size and the packing structure of the particles in each layer. Furthermore, it also allows fabrication of binary colloidal crystals over large areas by deformation of the PDMS sheets during LbL transfer. Two new binary crystals-one composed of identically sized particles but in different densities and the other of a nonclose-packed monolayer of large particles and a close-packed monolayer of small particles-were created, which are hard grown by other colloidal crystallization techniques developed thus far.

Abstract: We present a simple and versatile approach of using hydrogel microparticles to transfer both inorganic hydrophilic nanoparticles (NPs) such as CdTe quantum dots and enzymes such as lipase B from Candida antarctica (CalB) to organic media and eventually encapsulate them in the gel microparticles by consecutive exchange of the water swollen in the hydrogel microparticles with water-miscible organic solvents and water-immiscible solvents. The entrapment of hydrophilic nanoparticles is due to their incompatibility with water-immiscible organic solvents soaked in the gel matrices and in the surrounding environment, so the present approach obviates the need for any chemical modification to the NP surface or to the hydrogel and furthermore does not require any size matching or chemical affinity of the NPs for the hydrogel networks. The solvent exchange process causes little change of the intrinsic properties of hydrophilic nanoparticles CdTe quantum dots encapsulated in hydrogel microparticles, dispersed in water-immiscible organic solvents, remain strongly fluorescent, and CalB retains high catalytic activity. Of importance is that the hydrophilic nanoparticles encapsulated in the gel microparticles in organic media can be completely recovered in aqueous media via reversed solvent exchange. As a consequence, the present approach should hold immense promise for technical applications, especially in catalysis.

Abstract: By using the upper single or double layers in colloidal crystals as masks during Au vapor deposition, various Au patterns have been successfully constructed on the surfaces of the lower spheres. The dimension and geometry of the Au patterns obtained are dependent on the orientation of the colloidal crystal templates. Our patterning procedure is independent of the curvature and chemical composition of the surfaces, which definitely pave a promising way to pattern highly curved surfaces.

Abstract: Based on the interfacial self-assembly of magnetite nanoparticles, we demonstrate the formation of colloidosomes with shells predominantly composed of monolayers of liquid-like, close-packed nanoparticles. The gelation of aqueous phase with agarose leads to robust and water-dispersible nanoparticle colloidosomes, allowing encapsulation of various water soluble materials. The cutoff of the nanoparticle colloidosomes obtained is primarily defined by the nanoparticle size. This controllable permeability should be of great importance for the encapsulation application.

Abstract: Ultralow percolation threshold, strong positive temperature coefficient (PTC) effect, and abnormal alternating current electrical behaviors were obtained in ternary nanocomposites consisting of polypropylene (PP) and polyvinylidene fluoride (PVDF) (volume ratio: 1∕1) loaded with different amounts of nanosized carbon black (CB). These unusual properties could be assigned mainly to the special formation of electrically double-percolation network, the consecutive volume expansion of (PP-PVDF) cocontinuous phase, and the tunnel conduction between CB clusters. Both the low percolation threshold and the strong PTC effect should make the (CB-PP)/PVDF nanocomposites one of the most promising functional dielectric materials.

Abstract: Radiomics is a promising technique for discovering image based biomarkers of therapy response in cancer. Reproducibility of radiomics features is a known issue that is addressed by the image biomarker standardisation initiative (IBSI), but it remains challenging to interpret previously published radiomics signatures. This study investigates the reproducibility of radiomics features calculated with two widely used radiomics software packages (IBEX, MaZda) in comparison to an IBSI compliant software package (PyRadiomics). Intensity histogram, shape and textural features were extracted from 334 diffusion weighted magnetic resonance images of 59 head and neck cancer (HNC) patients from the PREDICT-HN observational radiotherapy study. Based on name and linear correlation, PyRadiomics shares 83 features with IBEX and 49 features with MaZda, a sub-set of well correlated features are considered reproducible (IBEX: 15 features, MaZda: 18 features). We explore the impact of including non-reproducible radiomics features in a HNC radiotherapy response model. It is possible to classify equivalent patient groups using radiomic features from either software, but only when restricting the model to reliable features using a correlation threshold method. This is relevant for clinical biomarker validation trials as it provides a framework to assess the reproducibility of reported radiomic signatures from existing trials.
Suicides of the Marginalised: Cultural Approaches to Suicide, Minorities and Relationality

Abstract: Suicides among marginalised groups are one of the few occasions in which self-harm and suicide are framed as having cultural, social, environental, historical or structural causes. Suicidology, psychology and public discourse typically understand suicide causality to be grounded in in idualised psychic pain and pathology, disavowing the social, cultural, environmental and linguistic contexts. However, public discourse on suicides of ‘marginalised’ groups such as asylum seekers, Indigenous persons and queer/LGBT youth are ‘authorised’ to be discussed from social perspectives, informing opportunities to re-think suicidality, identity and liveability. Building on recent critical challenges to dominant theories, this article examines some of the ways in which the suicides of marginalised groups are described in social terms, demonstrating how cultural approaches to relationality, aspiration, performativity and mobility can expand current thinking on suicide cause and prevention.

The Spectre of Populist Leadership: QAnon, Emergent Formations, and Digital Community

Abstract: QAnon is an online conspiracy movement centred on cryptic posts published by an unknown figure referred to as “Q.” Its anti-hierarchical framework and deployment of an unknown leader can be understood as a substantial departure from other 21st-century populisms that are sustained by the celebrity relationship between a leader (often aspiring to or gaining political office) and its followers (constituted in community through consumption of the leaders’ social media posts). Reflecting on contemporary debates and insights within cultural studies and digital communication literature, this article investigates some of the ways in which the spectral leadership of Q presents challenges for understanding and apprehending populist movements. In light of QAnon, there is an emerging need to make sense of populisms that are built on mythical or anonymous characters rather than on identifiable human actors in leadership roles. We begin by discussing the role of key practices of contemporary populist leadership and contrast these with justice-based populisms that are community-led without the figure of an identifiable leader. We argue that, as a populist movement, QAnon fits neither of these frameworks and, instead, has drawn on the affordances of digital media and its intersections with postmodern hyperreality to produce a new formation of populist movement today. Arguing that Q is the simulacra of a leader, we theorise the ways in which QAnon fosters affiliation and action from its adherents who, themselves, take on the role of saviour-leader.

Efficacy of a gender‐tailored intervention to prevent weight regain in men over 3 years: A weight loss maintenance RCT

Abstract: To examine whether a gender-tailored weight loss maintenance (WLM) program could reduce men's weight regain following weight loss. Ninety-two men who lost at least 4 kg during a 3-month weight loss phase were randomized to receive: (i) a 6-month WLM program (WL + WLM n = 47) or (ii) no resources (WL-only n = 45). The WLM program included written materials and messages (SMS, video email) plus other resources (e.g., pedometer, Gymstick™). The primary outcome was weight change in the first year post-randomization. Participants were assessed at "-3 months" (preweight loss), "0 months" (randomization into the WLM Phase), "6 months," "1 year," and "3 years." Before randomization, participants lost a mean (SD) of 7.3 kg (2.5). Retention was 83% at 6 months and 1 year and 71% at 3 years. Intention-to-treat analysis detected a significant group × time difference in weight regain favoring the intervention group at 6 months (-1.9 kg, 95% CI -3.7 to -0.1) but not at 1- or 3-year follow-up. Three years after completing the original weight loss program the WL-only and WL + WLM groups had maintained 59% and 51% of their initial weight loss, respectively. Men with overweight/obesity demonstrated clinically meaningful WLM 3 years after successfully losing weight. An additional WLM program contributed to enhanced WLM effects in the short term only. Abstract: Monodisperse, quasi-spherical silver nanoparticles (Ag NPs) with controlled sizes have been produced directly in water via adding the aqueous solutions of the mixtures of AgNO3 and sodium citrate to boiling aqueous solutions of ascorbic acid (AA). Different compounds, including NaCl, NaBr, KI, Na2SO4, Na2CO3, Na2S, and Na3PO4, are added to the AgNO3/citrate mixture solutions to form new silver compounds with fairly low solubility in water, which are used as precursors instead of soluble Ag(+) ions to synthesize Ag NPs via AA/citrate reduction. This enables us not only to produce monodisperse, quasi-spherical Ag NPs but also to tune the sizes of the resulting NPs from 16 to 30 nm according to the potential of new silver precursors as well as the concentrations of anions.

To achieve this goal different polymeric coatings are applied to provide solubility and stability in aqueous solution and additional functional groups for attachment. Taken together the versatile modifications described in this review improved the ability to specifically tailor the features and properties of magnetic nanoparticles for biomedical applications.
Digital Difference: Theorizing Frameworks of Bodies, Representation and Stereotypes in Digital Games

Abstract: This article presents a theoretical framework for making sense of gaming, ethnicity and race through the conceptual lens of critical approaches to the body, representation and the relationship between bodies and technologies of gameplay. Taking the view that gaming is a core activity of contemporary digital sociality that always involves bodies, whether represented on-screen or as game-players who are neither disembodied nor radically separated from those on-screen re-presentations, this article addresses the fact that, in everyday social life, stereotypes of representations of bodies of difference circulate in embedded ways in all communicative activities including digital gaming. However, if re-thinking the relationship of the body and its on-screen representations through assemblages of bodies–technologies beyond the more rudimentary real/virtual distinctions of older conceptualizations of media use, it is possible to open new critical frameworks for addressing race and ethnicity discrimination in the contemporary activity and performativity of gameplay. This article begins with a brief introduction to critical approaches to the body, followed by a discussion of on-screen representation and bodily stereotyping, finishing with an analysis of the relationship between bodies, gaming avatars and mutually constitutive body–technology relationships.

Abstract: This article investigates the representation of male and trans drag performance in Australian film to interrogate drag’s continuing potential for gender subversion. We argue that while drag has become mundane through repetition and recognisability, attention to the disjuncture between the visual and the sound (or lip-synching’s non-sound) in drag opens new possibilities for film depictions to disrupt gender norms. We begin with an account of how lip-synching provides new critical ways to think about drag, identity and gender performativity, and then analyse how three Australian films represent drag performance in the context of sound. By showing how drag frames performance through layers of sound emanating from different corporeal sources (the body, the recording), we argue that contemporary drag subverts the cultural demand for the seamlessness of vocal sound and visual embodiment for authentic gender identity, thereby pointing to the precarity of gender normativity.

Abstract: This article undertakes textual analysis to examine some of the ways in which knowledge around sexuality-related youth suicide and its causes are produced and made available through news media discourses and news-making processes. Four categories of sexuality-related suicide discourses were identified in news stories and features over the past 20 years: statistical research that makes non-heterosexuality implicit as a cause of suicide stories about deviancy,guilt, and shame suicide survivor stories and bullying/harassment of non-heterosexual persons by in iduals in schools and other institutions as suicide cause. Through processes of news production and meaning-making, use of expert opinions of primary definers, experiential accounts, reliance on citations of quantitative data, private accounts given as entertainment, and the newsworthiness of suicide as drama, public knowledge on queer youth suicide is guided by contemporary journalism. In all cases, the underlying relationship between heteronormativity, mental health, depression, and despair were frequently excluded in news journalism on queer youth suicide.

Abstract: We present a thermodynamic evaluation of the self-assembly of charged nanometer-sized particles at the water/oil interface. The chemical potentials of the nanoparticles in the bulk (aqueous) phase and at the water/oil interface are calculated taking into account interfacial energies, van der Waals interactions, and electrostatic repulsions. An isotherm of the interfacial particle density as a function of the surface charge density on the particles is obtained and compared with experimental results on gold and CdTe nanoparticles self-assembled at the water/heptane interface. Our model provides a semi-quantitative explanation for the spontaneous self-assembly of several types of metallic and semiconducting charged nanoparticles upon reduction of their surface charge.

Abstract: Surface-inactive, highly hydrophilic particles are utilized to effectively and reversibly stabilize oil-in-water emulsions. This is a result of attractive van der Waals forces between particles and oil droplets in water, which are sufficient to trap the particles in close proximity to oil-water interfaces when repulsive forces between particles and oil droplets are suppressed. The emulsifying efficiency of the highly hydrophilic particles is determined by van der Waals attraction between particle monolayer shells and oil droplets enclosed therein and is inversely proportional to the particle size, while their stabilizing efficiency is determined by van der Waals attraction between single particles and oil droplets, which is proportional to the particle size. This differentiation in mechanism between emulsification and stabilization will significantly advance our knowledge of emulsions, thus enabling better control and design of emulsion-based technologies in practice.

Abstract: In this Article, high-quality gold nanocrystals (Au NCs) with various shapes including concave cubic, trisoctahedral, cubic, rod-like, and quasi-spherical have been successfully produced in high yield via adding a trace amount of NaBH4 solution into growth solutions mainly composed of HAuCl4, ascorbic acid, and surfactants. The sizes and shapes of as-prepared Au NCs can be tuned by the compositions of the growth solutions and the amount of NaBH4 added. The electrocatalytic performance of differently shaped Au NCs for methanol oxidation was studied as-prepared trisoctahedral or concave cubic Au NCs are more highly active electrocatalysts for methanol oxidation due to the presence of high-index facets on their surface.

Immobilization of lipase B within micron-sized poly-N-isopropylacrylamide hydrogel particles by solvent exchange

Abstract: The aim of the present work is the use of a water soluble enzyme in an organic solvent, still with a pronounced catalytic activity. Therefore, lipase B from Candida antarctica (CalB) is immobilized within micron-sized thermosensitive p-NIPAM hydrogel particles using a solvent exchange from polar to organic solvents. The absorbed amount of CalB is investigated at different immobilization temperatures. Confocal laser scanning microscopy (CLSM) shows that CalB is homogeneously distributed within the polymer network. An enhanced specific activity of CalB in n-hexane is achieved after immobilization within the p-NIPAM microgels. In order to get information on the supply of the substrate depending on the temperature, the activity is determined at different reaction temperatures. Additionally, the system is stable in the organic solvent, namely n-hexane, and shows a good reusability.

Abstract: By using angle-resolved colloidal lithography and O2-plasma etched bilayers of hexagonally packed spheres as templates, we succeeded in fabrication of highly ordered binary arrays of gold nanoparticles with varied shapes, for instance, with a shuttlecock-like shape composed of a small crescent-shaped nanoparticle and a big fan-shaped one. The size and shape of both small and big nanoparticles obtained were manipulated by the plasma etching period and the incidence angle of Au vapor flow. The subsequent thermal annealing led to binary arrays of round Au nanoparticles with a rather narrow distribution in terms of size and shape. Our approach should pave a simple and versatile colloidal way to form binary nanoparticle arrays, holding immense promise for technical applications such as nanoelectronics and nanophotonics.

Abstract: In this paper, various nanostructured poly(aniline) (PANI) particles have been prepared via redox polymerization of aniline in the presence of tri(ethylene glycol) bis(1,5-dihydroxy-naphthalene-2,6- disulfate) ether (TBE). The morphology evolution of the resulting PANI particles was carefully monitored by electron microscopy, clearly underlining the structure-directing role of TBE during the agglomeration of PANI primary nanoparticles (NPs) in the course of polymerization. Various interactions exerted on the PANI primary NPs were assessed based on extended Derjaguin-Landau-Verwey-Overbeek (DLVO) theory, and the thermodynamic balance of these interactions was used to analyze the effect of the TBE concentration on the morphology of the nanostructured PANI particles.

Abstract: Nanochemical printmaking: Colloidal lithography paves a powerful nanochemical way for patterning on planar substrates and microparticles. The feature size can easily be scaled down to 100 nm by reducing the diameter of the microspheres and the feature shape ersified by the crystalline structure of a colloidal crystal mask, the mask etching time, the incidence angle of the vapor beam, and the mask registry (the azimuth angle of the vapor beam). Colloidal lithography relies on using colloidal crystals as masks for etching and deposition, and allows fabrication of various nanostructures on planar and non-planar substrates with low-cost, high-throughput-processing, large fabrication area, and a broad choice of materials. The feature size can easily shrink by decreasing the microsphere diameter in the colloidal mask. The feature shape can be ersified by varying the crystal structure of the colloidal mask, etching the mask, altering the incidence angle of the vapor beam, and stepwise manipulation of the mask registry. This nanochemical patterning strategy paves a complementary way to conventional top-down lithography. This focus review provides an overview of the principle of colloidal lithography, and surveys the recent developments as well as outlining the future challenges.

Abstract: Biocompatibility is of paramount importance for drug delivery, tumor labeling, and in vivo application of nanoscale bioprobes. Until now, biocompatible surface processing has typically relied on PEGylation and other surface coatings, which, however, cannot minimize clearance by macrophages or the renal system but may also increase the risk of chemical side effects. Cell membranes provide a generic and far more natural approach to the challenges of encapsulation and delivery in vivo. Here we harness for the first time living cells as "factories" to manufacture cell membrane capsules for encapsulation and delivery of drugs, nanoparticles, and other biolabels. Furthermore, we demonstrate that the built-in protein channels of the new capsules can be utilized for controlled release of encapsulated reagents.

Abstract: Radiotherapy, along with laser surgery, is considered a standard treatment option for patients with early glottic squamous cell cancer (SCC). Historically, patients have received complete larynx radiotherapy (CL-RT) due to fear of swallowing and respiratory laryngeal motion and this remains the standard approach in many academic institutions. Local control (LC) rates with CL-RT have been excellent, however this treatment can carry significant toxicities include adverse voice and swallowing outcomes, along with increased long-term risk of cerebrovascular morbidity. A recent retrospective study reported improved voice quality and similar local control outcomes with focused vocal cord radiotherapy (VC-RT) compared to CL-RT. There is currently no prospective evidence on the safety of VC-RT. The primary objective of this Bayesian Phase II trial is to compare the LC of VC-RT to that of CL-RT in patients with T1N0 glottic SCC. One hundred and fifty-five patients with T1a-b N0 SCC of the true vocal cords that are n ot candidate or declined laser surgery, will be randomized in a 1:3 ratio the control arm (CL-RT) and the experimental arm (VC-RT). Randomisation will be stratified by tumor stage (T1a/T1b) and by site (each site will be allowed to select one preferred radiation dose regimen, to be used in both arms). CL-RT volumes will correspond to the conventional RT volumes, with the planning target volume extending from the top of thyroid cartilage lamina superiorly to the bottom of the cricoid inferiorly. VC-RT volumes will include the involved vocal cord(s) and a margin accounting for respiration and set-up uncertainty. The primary endpoint will be LC at 2-years, while secondary endpoints will include patient-reported outcomes (voice impairment, dysphagia and symptom burden), acute and late toxicity radiation-induced toxicity, overall survival, progression free survival, as well as an optional component of acoustic and objective measures of voice analysis using the Consensus Auditory-Perceptual Evaluation of Voice. This study would constitute the first prospective evidence on the efficacy and safety of VC-RT in early glottic cancer. Suspended ethics and the team: Theorising team sportsplayers’ group sexual assault in the context of identity

Abstract: Men's elite team sports in Australia have recently been the subject of considerable public scrutiny subsequent to a series of instances of group sexual violence against women. Both scholarship and policy work have noted how homosocial institutions such as sporting teams have a greater likelihood of gender-based violence and have proposed the need for more ethical relations. This article explores some of the ways in which group sexual assault can be approached from the perspective of Judith Butler's theories of performativity. Arguing that the performance of subjectivity occurs differentially in highly bonded group contexts, cases of sexual assault by team sportsplayers can be understood as the result of a team’s group subjective suspension of ethics occurring in the temporality of off-field bonding. By developing alternative ways in which to understand the distinction between in idual responsibility and local group subjectivity, it is argued that sportsplayers are well-placed to recognise the vulnerability of victims through their own vulnerability to injury and loss, thereby presenting the space for an ethics of non-violence that is grounded in recognition of the vulnerable other.

Digital hostility, internet pile-ons and shaming: A case study

Abstract: Digital hostility poses a grave risk to the health and wellbeing of its targets. This study addresses digital hostility levelled at public figures, and does so through the case study of Wilson Gavin. Gavin had cultivated a minor public profile in Australia through his conservative activism. In January 2020, after protesting at a drag storytelling event in Brisbane, Gavin was subject to significant online abuse a day after the protest, he died by suicide. This study examines the forms, themes and frameworks of that abuse as it played out across a small s le of publicly available Twitter posts. The study also addresses Twitter responses to the death. These responses are significant in that they in idualise Gavin’s suicide and portray him as unable to protect himself and thus inherently vulnerable to taking his own life. Conversely, the study suggests that Gavin’s death points to the need for an understanding of how digital hostility harms those who are subject to it and how public figures can become resilient to that hostility.

A Simple Nanocellulose Coating for Self‐Cleaning upon Water Action: Molecular Design of Stable Surface Hydrophilicity

Abstract: Coating solid surfaces with cellulose nanofibril (CNF) monolayers via physical deposition was found to keep the surfaces free of a variety of oils, ranging from viscous engine oil to polar n-butanol, upon water action. The self-cleaning function was well correlated with the unique molecular structure of the CNF, in which abundant surface carboxyl and hydroxy groups are uniformly, densely, and symmetrically arranged to form a polar corona on a crystalline nanocellulose strand. This isotropic core-corona configuration offers new and easily adoptable guidance to design self-cleaning surfaces at the molecular level. Thanks to its excellent self-cleaning behavior, the CNF coating converted conventional meshes into highly effective membranes for oil-water separation with no prior surface treatment required.

Digital hostility: contemporary crisis, disrupted belonging and self-care practices

Abstract: Digital hostility has verifiably increased over the past decades among adult users of social media and online forums. Both an extension of, and different from, cyberbullying, digital hostility has become a framing factor in the reduction of quality of public debate at a social level and, at an in idual level, has been cited as responsible for withdrawal, disconnection and negative impact on health and mental health. This paper draws on digital ethnographic and in-depth survey research to present new approaches to understanding the cause, form and impact of digital hostility among adults. Participants in the study generated valuable discussion which, when analysed from the perspective of media and cultural theory, presented three significant findings: Firstly, that digital hostility is increasingly recognised not as a behavioural problem among in idual perpetrators but as a ‘crisis’ that both arises from within and disrupts digital culture. Secondly, participants discussed the impact of their own experiences of online adversity on their health and wellbeing. Analysed through critical and cultural frameworks, their experiences can be understood as being positioned as ungrievable subjects or, in extreme cases, bare life—particularly when digital hostility is experienced through cross-platform trolling and spills over into stalking. Finally, participants discussed the experience of self-care in the absence of adequate support mechanisms by platform hosts. Self-care manifested not as in idualised self-protection but as mutually-supportive, using alternative platforms to share strategies and support care was also oriented towards care for digital culture more broadly. This paper provides initial insights into the perception and understanding of digital hostility as an everyday cultural experience.

Abstract: This article examines the ways in which recent theorizations of interactivity work to reconceive the author-text-audience relationship. Suggesting that all media forms - historical and contemporary - can be reconceptualized in light of recent understandings of interactivity, it is argued that control over the text and its narrative as mythically ‘finished’ products is struggled over between an authorial desire for finality and an audience desire for control over the arrangement, (re)configuration and (re)distribution of the text. This struggle takes place across the sites of technological developments of textual control versus full interactivity, and in the realms of both media theory and media law.

Abstract: We report a facile and effective strategy for synthesizing morphology-controlled patterned ZnO nanostructures. Polymeric nanowell arrays were employed as scaffold templates, followed by solution dipping and calcination process, polygonal ZnO nanobowl structures were fabricated on silicon substrate. The ordered polymeric nanowell arrays not only provided confined areas for depositing desired materials, but also induced shape transition of ZnO nanobowls from circular to polygonal. The morphology of the patterned ZnO nanostructures can be easily controlled by tuning parameters of polymeric nanowell arrays and other treatment conditions. The patterned structures were characterized by field emission scanning electron microscopy (SEM), atomic force microscopy (AFM), X-ray diffraction (XRD) and thermogravimetric analysis (TGA).
Chitosan-Mediated Synthesis of Gold Nanoparticles on Patterned Poly(dimethylsiloxane) Surfaces

Abstract: Synthesis of gold nanoparticles on surfaces has been accomplished by the incubation of poly(dimethylsiloxane) (PDMS) films in tetrachloroauric(III) acid and chitosan solution at room temperature and 4 degrees C. One important point in the present study is that the synthesis selectively occurred on the PDMS surface. These observations are substantially different from the reaction in solution, in which no particles can be formed at room temperature. Computation of surface plasmon bands (SPBs) based on Mie theory suggests that the particles are partially coated by chitosan molecules, and the experimental results confirm the theoretical calculations. The proposed mechanism is that chitosan molecules adsorbed or printed on the PDMS surfaces act as reducing/stabilizing agents. Furthermore, PDMS films patterned with chitosan could induce localized synthesis of gold nanoparticles in regions capped with chitosan only. In this way, colloidal patterns were fabricated on the surfaces with high spatial selectivity simultaneously with the synthesis of the particles. Surface-induced fluorescence quenching was observed in the regions capped with gold nanoparticles as well.
Directing the self-assembly of nanocrystals beyond colloidal crystallization

Abstract: This article gives an overview of recent progress in the self-assembly of nanocrystals. Classic self-assembly of nanocrystals, so-called colloidal crystallization driven by van der Waals interactions, is highlighted first with an emphasis on the recent realization of binary colloidal crystals. Next, new developments in the integration of nanocrystals into clusters based on electrostatic interactions, hydrogen bonding and dipole-dipole interactions are summarized, shedding light on the defined control of the interactions between the nanocrystals. Finally, the fabrication of heterogenous nanocrystals, obtained via either phase selective modification at the water/oil interface or facet-selective crystal growth on non-spherical nanocrystals is discussed. These last materials may provide significant building blocks for mimicking molecular self-assembly.

Abstract: This article examines the ways in which contemporary western cultures have attempted to legitimize certain sites of bodily nakedness (such as communal showers, bathing children and other `public' displays) by maintaining a contextual space or frame which attempts to exclude the sexual. Noting the ways in which that legitimacy has broken down in recent decades, the article suggests that the slippage between the sexual and the naked results from both a breakdown in the `heterosexual matrix' as well as a postmodern crisis of `the context'.

Abstract: The use of hydrogel to accommodate nanoparticles is generally aimed at a synergetic integration of the peculiar electronic, photonic, magnetic, mechanical, and chemical properties of the nanoparticles with the stimuli-response of the hydrogels into unprecedented, smart, collective functions. The intrinsic water-borne nature of hydrogels further endorses the significant implications of such nanocomposites in biology and medicine. This article will be an account with a special accent on how to introduce nanoparticles within hydrogels and utilize the hydrogels to assist the nanoparticles to adapt themselves into different environments, with a large span of polarity ranging from orthodox aqueous media to unorthodox organic ones. The related technological developments and the associated fundamental issues will be discussed under the umbrella of enabling nanoparticle/hydrogel composites to emulate the unique catalytic performances of enzymes.

Abstract: The interfacial properties of Fe(3)O(4)@MEO(2)MA(90)-co-OEGMA(10) NPs, recently developed and described as promising nanotools for biomedical applications, have been investigated at the air/water interface. These Fe(3)O(4) NPs, capped with catechol-terminated random copolymer brushes of 2-(2-methoxyethoxy) ethyl methacrylate (MEO(2)MA) and oligo(ethylene glycol) methacrylate (OEGMA), with molar fractions of 90% and 10%, respectively, proved to be surface active. Surface tension measurements of aqueous dispersions of the NPs showed that the adsorption of the NPs at the air/water interface is time- and concentration-dependent. These NPs do not behave as classical hiphiles. Once adsorbed at the air/water interface, they do not exchange with NPs in bulk, but they are trapped at the interface. This means that all NPs from the bulk adsorb to the interface until reaching maximum coverage of the interface, which corresponds to values between 6 × 10(-4) and 8 × 10(-4) mg/cm(2) and a critical equilibrium surface tension of ∼47 mN/m. Moreover, Langmuir layers of Fe(3)O(4)@MEO(2)MA(90)-co-OEGMA(10) NPs have been investigated by measuring surface pressure-area compression-expansion isotherms and in situ X-ray fluorescence spectra. The compression-expansion isotherms showed a plateau region above a critical surface pressure of ∼25 mN/m and a pronounced hysteresis. By using a special one-barrier Langmuir trough equipped with two surface pressure microbalances, we have shown that the NPs are squeezed out from the interface into the aqueous subphase, and they readsorb on the other side of the barrier. The results have been supported by TEM as well as AFM experiments of transferred Langmuir-Schaefer films on solid supports. This study shows the ability of Fe(3)O(4)@MEO(2)MA(90)-co-OEGMA(10) NPs to transfer from hydrophilic media (an aqueous solution) to the hydrophobic/hydrophilic interface (air/water interface) and back to the hydrophilic media. This behavior is very promising, opening studies of their ability to cross biological membranes.

Abstract: Monodisperse, quasi-spherical silver nanocrystals (Ag NCs) have been produced directly in water via adding the aqueous solution of a mixture of AgNO3, sodium citrate, and KI into the boiling aqueous solutions of ascorbic acid (AA). The AA is used to significantly accelerate reduction of AgNO3 in order to promote a very fast nucleation, and the KI is used to tailor the growth of the Ag NCs into a quasi-spherical shape via its preferential adsorption on the NC {111} facets. The major role of citrate is to stabilize the newly formed NCs, whereas it has a minor contribution to reduction of AgNO3. The synergy of the effects of AA, citrate, and KI can significantly narrow the size distributions of the Ag NCs obtained so and transform the NC shapes to be truly quasi-spherical.

Abstract: Implantable biomedical electronics hold immense promise for in vivo personalized healthy monitoring and even precise therapeutic intervention. Tremendous miniaturization of indwelling modules enables implanted biomedical devices to perform multiple functions with ultralow power consumption but exacerbates the technical challenges of supplying effective power to the devices in vivo . In this Perspective, we summarize new developments in transmitting near-infrared light from sunlight or a light-emitting diode into subcutaneously implanted photovoltaic cells, in which the light utilization efficiency can be lified with the aid of nanostructured rear reflectors. Considering the many natural ex les of nanostructure-induced structural coloration displayed by submarine animals, we wish to open up new prospects of bioinspired, nanostructure- lified, subcutaneous light harvesting to power implanted biomedical electronics.

Abstract: In this work, superhydrophobic surfaces were derived from binary colloidal assemblies. CaCO(3)-loaded hydrogel spheres and silica or polystyrene ones were consecutively dip-coated on silicon wafers. The former assemblies were recruited as templates for the latter self-assembly. Due to the hydrophilicity difference between silicon wafers and CaCO(3)-loaded hydrogel spheres, the region selective localization of silica or polystyrene spheres leads to irregular binary structures with a hierarchical roughness. The subsequent modification with low surface energy molecules yields a superhydrophobic surface. The heating treatment may largely enhance the mechanical stability of the resulting binary structures, which allows regeneration of the surface superhydrophobicity, providing a good durability in practice.
pH-Responsive capsules derived from nanocrystal templating

Abstract: In the current work we demonstrate a facile and versatile way to create hydrophilic polymeric capsules by integration of Au nanocrystal templating, surface-initiated atom-transfer radical polymerization, and selective chemical cross-linking of polymer shells. Capsules of the homopolymer of 2-(dimethylamino)ethyl methacrylate and its copolymers with 2-(diethylamino)ethyl methacrylate and poly(ethylene glycol) methyl ether methacrylate were constructed. They swell at low pH and shrink at high pH. On the basis of the pH sensitivity of the resulting capsules, encapsulation and release of a drug model, rhodamine 6G, were realized. Furthermore, by cleaving Au-S bonds between Au cores and polymer shells, capsules containing free Au cores were generated, paving a simple pathway to introduce more functionality to the polymeric capsules.
High-Throughput Transformation of Colloidal Polymer Spheres to Discs Simply via Magnetic Stirring of Their Dispersions

Abstract: In this article, we have successfully demonstrated the high-throughput production of colloidal discs via magnetic stirring of aqueous dispersions of monodisperse, sulfate-stabilized polystyrene (PS) spheres in the presence of a good organic solvent. The organic solvent could be water-miscible, such as tetrahydrofuran, or water-immiscible, such as chloroform. Water-immiscible organic solvents were mixed into aqueous dispersions of PS spheres in the presence of sodium dodecyl sulfate. The geometry of the resulting discs could be easily adjusted by the magnetic stirring time and speed, the stirring bar weight, and the amount of organic solvent. Our strategy is simple, scalable, and hardly dependent on the nature of the organic solvent and the PS sphere diameter PS spheres with diameters ranging from 200 nm to 5 μm were deformed into discs with almost 100% yield. When organic solutions of fluorescent dyes and nanoparticles were used instead of pure organic solvents for PS sphere liquefaction, fluorescent discs were obtained, underlining the effective, efficient encapsulation of the fluorescent substance in the discs.
Stepwise interfacial self-assembly of nanoparticles via specific DNA pairing

Abstract: In the present work, we succeeded in alternatively depositing inorganic nanoparticles and functionalized DNA bases onto the water/oil interface from the water and oil bulk phases. The ligands used were functional thymines and adenines. Their thiol and phosphate groups were used to cap inorganic nanoparticles and their thymine and adenine groups to alter the surface functionality of the nanoparticles, thus enabling a layer-by-layer growth fashion of nanoparticles at the interface. The multiple particle ligation rendered the resulting nanoparticle films rather mechanically robust. As results, the freestanding asymmetric bilayer and trilayer films, composed of negatively-charged Au, positively-charged CdTe, and/or organic Ag nanoparticles were constructed their areas were as large as over several centimetres, depending on the sizes of the containers used. Our work should bring up a novel methodology to generate asymmetric multilayer films of nanoparticles with a defined control of electron or charge across the films.
The myth of LGBTQ mobilities: framing the lives of gender- and sexually diverse Australians between regional and urban contexts.

Abstract: Gender- and sexually erse youth are often represented in popular discourses through concepts of movement and mobility. Conceptual stories of LGBTQ youth transitions to adulthood in particular are marked by narratives of movement from regional (rural and/or small towns) to major urban areas. Although not wholly outside lived experience, a cultural myth that portrays the experience of gender- and sexually erse young people entering into 'adulthood' via such mobility continues to circulate in scholarship, popular media, personal accounts of coming out, support resources and self-help guidance documents. This paper draws on a recent study of gender and sexual ersity, support and belonging to examine instances of LGBTQ youth mobility in relation to participant interviews and focus groups undertaken in an Australian project examining two generations of sexually erse subjects' views on growing up, support and belonging. Participants differed generationally in how they experienced mobility from regional to urban settings, demonstrating that contemporary real-world accounts of such mobility are complex, nuanced and erse and that the felt 'expectation' that one should migrate to a city in order to live a full gender- or sexually erse life has waned among young people in the more recent generation.
