Abstract: Searching for new plasmonic building blocks which offer tunability and design flexibility beyond noble metals is crucial for advancing the field of plasmonics. Herein, we report that solution-synthesized hexagonal Bi2Te3 nanoplates, in the absence of grating configurations, can exhibit multiple plasmon modes covering the entire visible range, as observed by transmission electron microscopy (TEM)-based electron energy-loss spectroscopy (EELS) and cathodoluminescence (CL) spectroscopy. Moreover, different plasmon modes are observed in the center and edge of the single Bi2Te3 nanoplate and a breathing mode is discovered for the first time in a non-noble metal. Theoretical calculations show that the plasmons observed in the visible range are mainly due to strong spin-orbit coupling induced metallic surface states of Bi2Te3. The versatility of shape- and size-engineered Bi2Te3 nanocrystals suggests exciting possibilities in plasmonics-enabled technology.

Abstract: Quasi-two-dimensional perovskites have emerged as a new material platform for optoelectronics on account of its intrinsic stability. A major bottleneck to device performance is the high charge injection barrier caused by organic molecular layers on its basal plane, thus the best performing device currently relies on edge contact. Herein, by leveraging on van der Waals coupling and energy level matching between two-dimensional Ruddlesden-Popper perovskite and graphene, we show that the plane-contacted perovskite and graphene interface presents a lower barrier than gold for charge injection. Electron tunneling across the interface occurs via a gate-tunable, direct tunneling-to-field emission mechanism with increasing bias, and photoinduced charge transfer occurs at femtosecond timescale (~50 fs). Field effect transistors fabricated on molecularly thin Ruddlesden-Popper perovskite using graphene contact exhibit electron mobilities ranging from 0.1 to 0.018 cm 2 V −1 s −1 between 1.7 to 200 K. Scanning tunneling spectroscopy studies reveal layer-dependent tunneling barrier and domain size on few-layered Ruddlesden-Popper perovskite.

Abstract: Hexagonal Bi2 Te3 nanoplates support visible-range surface plasmons, of which the resonance energy is tuned as wide as 400 nm by Se doping and the resonance intensity is modulated by utilizing the phase change between the crystalline and amorphous states. The potential of Bi2 Te3 for reconfigurable plasmonics, plasmon-enhanced solar cells, and photoluminescence is demonstrated.
