Abstract: The present study investigated effective techniques of teaching vocabulary in an Afghan EFL setting. It also attempts to determine the impacts of the participants’ demographic profile ((i.e., gender, age, first language, and teaching experiences) on their responses. The data were collected from 93 randomly selected English teachers through a questionnaire containing 25 items. Statistical Package for the Social Sciences (SPSS) version 26.0 was employed to analyze the data. To answer the reserach questions, descriptive and inferential statistics (independent s le T -test and one-way ANOVA tests) were used. The findings revealed that the overall attitude of Afghan EFL instructors towards applying effective techniques of teaching vocabulary in an Afghan EFL setting is positive. The respondents also reported that they warmly welcomed the techniques which led students to enhance their motivation for learning English vocabulary. Moreover, the study revealed that the participants’ gender, age, first language, and teaching experiences had a signficant impact on their responses.

Abstract: The study aimed at investigating the challenges of undergraduate married female students in higher education of Afghanistan. It also explored whether the participants’ demographic variables such as class, age and residential areas had any effect on their responses. The study employed a quantitative research design. A survey questionnaire with 29 items was used to collect the data from 100 purposefully selected respondents at Takhar University. The population of the study was undergraduate married female students who were majoring in different fields at Takhar University. 117 copies of questionnaires were administered to the respondents and only 100 useable ones were returned to the researchers. Statistical Package for Social Sciences (SPSS version 25.0) was used in analyzing the data. The study found that Afghan married female students faced different problems during their studies at the university and the challenges had a significant effect on them. It also revealed that there were statistically significant differences in the responses of the students by their class, age and residential areas. The study suggests that educational leaders should develop counselling programs at the universities to tackle the challenges of married female students and involve various stakeholders to improve their achievement.

Abstract: Leadership is the process of influencing followers to achieve a goal. This study aims to explore the Afghan postgraduate students’ experiences of their leadership development through the leadership course taught in Universiti Teknologi, Malaysia. A quantitative research design was employed in the study. An online survey questionnaire with 19 items was used to collect the data. The survey questionnaire was administered to all 46 postgraduate students in Social Sciences, Humanities and Science faculties, but only 42 of them responded to the online survey. Statistical Package for Social Sciences has been used to analyze the data. Descriptive statistics were used to determine the mean, frequency and percentage. Inferential statistics such as Independent S le T-Test and One Way ANOVA were used to find out the differences in the responses of the participants by their demographic variables, i.e., gender, year of study, faculty, work experience and age. The finding showed that the students had a positive perception of the leadership course. The participants believed that the course helped them to improve their leadership skills. The study recommends that the leadership course be taught in Afghanistan universities since it plays a crucial part in developing leadership skills in students, which is crucial for their career after graduation.

Abstract: The study investigated the lecturers’ perceptions of problem-based learning (PBL) their attitudes towards PBL, their views of effects of PBL on the learning process and the factors for not employing PBL in their courses. A survey questionnaire was used to collect data from 40 randomly selected lecturers from Takhar University. Descriptive and inferential statistics were used to analyze the data. The findings showed that lecturers had strong positive attitudes towards PBL and they were interested in utilizing PBL in their teaching activities. They were aware of the effects of PBL on the learning process particularly students’ learning. They believed that PBL could help students develop a variety of generic skills, e.g., communication and problem-solving skills, which are necessary for employment. However, most of the participants did not make use of PBL in their courses for various reasons such as large number of students in their classes and lack of appropriate infrastructure. The lecturers’ gender, level of education and years of teaching experiences did not have any significant impact on their responses.

Abstract: This study aims to investigate the perception of undergraduate students about their lecturers’ behaviours in their learning environment. Behaviour is the explanation of observable outcomes and interaction between students and instructors. Behaviour can be positive, negative, effective or ineffective, and the way in which lecturers behave with their students in the learning environment may affect their learning experience and motivation. A Quantitative research design was employed in conducting the study. A questionnaire with 27 items was used to collect data from 140 randomly selected respondents from Takhar University, Afghanistan. SPSS version 25.0 was used to analyze the data. Descriptive statistics and inferential statistics, i.e., Independent S les t-test and One-Way ANOVA were employed in data analysis. The findings indicate that the students had a positive perception about their lecturers’ behaviours in the learning environment. The study also revealed that there did not appear to be any statistically significant differences in participants’ responses by their gender or the classes they took. The findings of the current study may lead to policies with regard to lecturers’ behaviours and inform instructors to improve classroom practices in the learning environment.

Abstract: The study investigated the Afghan EFL instructors’ use of English teaching methods. It also studied whether the instructors’ gender had any significant impact on their responses. A survey questionnaire with 35 closed-ended items was utilized to collect the data from 50 EFL instructors who were teaching English in various English language centers in Takhar. Descriptive and inferential statistics were used to analyze the data. The results of the study revealed that the Afghan EFL instructors frequently used the Grammar Translation Method and communicative language method in their English classes. Moreover, the EFL instructors sometimes used the Audiolingual Method, the Direct Method, the Total Physical Response and the Silent Way. The Silent Way was the least frequently used method in Afghan EFL classrooms. The results also showed that there were not any statistically significant differences between female and male instructors’ response. The study suggests an eclectic use of methods in English classes in order to make English learning more meaningful to students.
