Abstract: The m-wallet apps market in India is an evolving industry. M-wallet app companies could use the consumer insights from this study to design suitable strategies to retain existing users and attract new customers. Earlier studies in m-wallet app adoption in India have been restricted to GPRS services only. This study is unique in extending use of the UTAUT model theoretical framework to understand the factors influencing customers using the evolved 4G technology in India. The research hypothesis, based on the extended UTAUT model, was empirically tested using structural equation modeling. There was a significant improvement in the overall explanatory power of the extended UTAUT model over the original UTAUT.

Abstract: This study aims to explore how transformational leaders enhance public service employees’ growth satisfaction in the job and mitigate job stress and burnout, incorporating follower interpersonal communication satisfaction with the leader (IPCSL) as a mediator. On the basis of the survey data collected from the Indian public service employees, regression analysis, bootstrapping and SOBEL test are used to test the proposed research model. The findings highlighted a partial mediation of follower interpersonal communication satisfaction with leader between transformational leadership (TL) and public service employees’ growth satisfaction in the job. Although there was no significant direct effect of TL on job stress and burnout, the results underlined a significant indirect effect of follower IPCSL. By examining the important role of follower IPCSL, this study unravels the precise intervening mechanism between TL and follower affective outcomes like growth satisfaction in job, job stress and burnout among public service employees.

Abstract: Articular cartilage is considered to have limited regenerative capacity, which has led to the search for therapies to limit or halt the progression of its destruction. Perlecan, a multifunctional heparan sulphate (HS) proteoglycan, promotes embryonic cartilage development and stabilises the mature tissue. We investigated the immunolocalisation of perlecan and collagen between donor-matched biopsies of human articular cartilage defects (n = 10 × 2) that were repaired either naturally or using autologous cell therapy, and with age-matched normal cartilage. We explored how the removal of HS from perlecan affects human chondrocytes in vitro. Immunohistochemistry showed both a pericellular and diffuse matrix staining pattern for perlecan in both natural and cell therapy repaired cartilage, which related to whether the morphology of the newly formed tissue was hyaline cartilage or fibrocartilage. Immunostaining for perlecan was significantly greater in both these repair tissues compared to normal age-matched controls. The immunolocalisation of collagens type III and VI was also dependent on tissue morphology. Heparanase treatment of chondrocytes in vitro resulted in significantly increased proliferation, while the expression of key chondrogenic surface and genetic markers was unaffected. Perlecan was more prominent in chondrocyte clusters than in in idual cells after heparanase treatment. Heparanase treatment could be a means of increasing chondrocyte responsiveness to cartilage injury and perhaps to improve repair of defects.

Abstract: Despite broad evidence in the past demonstrating the relationships between personality traits and organizational citizenship behavior, research on organizational citizenship behavior from the perspective of emotional contagion has not received deserving attention to date. Drawing on the trait theory and affective event theory as an overarching reference, this study theorizes emotional contagion as a moderator by arguing that it improves the above relationship incrementally. This study conducted hierarchical multiple regression analysis to test the hypotheses and adopted the Johnson–Neyman method using SPSS PROCESS Macro to probe the pattern of the significant interactions. A total of 320 bank employees took part in the survey. The findings revealed, agreeableness and conscientiousness as significant predictors of organizational citizenship behavior. Furthermore, the above association was enhanced for employees at the conditional level of high emotional contagion. The study provides insight into recognizing the significance of employees’ emotional levels and their contribution to organizational growth.

Abstract: Religious tourism represents a significant market segment of the tourism industry with dynamic growth of billions of dollars. However, natural disasters in religious destinations can incur great loss to such a vibrant industry. Therefore, it is of paramount importance to study the behavior patterns of religious tourists relating to revisit intentions to disaster-affected religious destinations. Considering the lack of research in this area, this study investigated the revisit intentions of religious tourists to natural disaster-affected religious destinations using the push–pull motive theoretical framework. The results from the data collected on revisit intentions confirmed religious faith, gratitude, and peace and relaxation as main push factors responsible for religious tourists revisiting disaster-affected religious destinations. Subsequently, disaster awareness through media and personal safety were found as key pull factors that significantly moderated the relationship between peace and relaxation and revisit intentions. Findings indicate that religious tourists who are driven by religious faith and gratitude are not significantly impacted by external pull factors compared with those who visit for seeking peace and relaxation.

Abstract: The economic recession in 2008 followed by a period of slow economic recovery and continuous volatile economic environment has apparently affected every sphere of Indian economy. The impact is so real that India cannot but rev the business strategies in order to stay afloat and vibrant. Consequently, any financial instability directly affects the employees in the organizations in the form of work overload and job insecurity, which can increase stress and burnout among the employees. Therefore against the backdrop of slow recovery period in the aftermath of the 2008 recession, this study explored the level of job stress and burnout experienced by the employees across sectors, namely, I.T, health care, hospitality, educational, manufacturing and public-service sectors in India. Apparently, this study found that the Indian employees were overall moderately stressed and burned out. While health care and manufacturing sector employees experienced high amount of job stress and burnout, the educational and public-service sector employees reported lesser job stress and burnout comparatively. Hence, this study is of great help for the managerial practitioners to assess the level of stress and burnout spread across Indian sectors and take preventive measures against stress and burnout in a continuing atmosphere of economic instability.

Abstract: Social support of supervisors and colleagues is thought to enable people to cope better with the demanding work situations. More specifically, supportive, supervisory communication has been found to reduce uncertainty, promote discussion, build self-esteem, clarify role expectations and inculcate meaning in the job among employees. In an attempt to help educators explore the full benefits of supervisory social support in academic institutions, this article examines the satisfaction of teachers with their supervisors’ interpersonal communication skills in relation to job burn-out and growth satisfaction in the job in southern India. Data were collected from 140 educational professionals of schools, colleges and universities located in southern India. The findings reveal that teachers’ satisfaction with supervisors’ interpersonal communication skills is positively related to their growth satisfaction in the job and negatively related to burn-out. The interview data that substantiated the findings of this study also highlight important interpersonal communication skills that need to be practiced by supervisors in the educational institutions in southern India.

Abstract: This research examines Indian service managers' perceptions on impact of convergent technologies on their work and resultant organisational performance. The research uses four dimensions – task productivity, task innovation, customer satisfaction and management control – taken together, to investigate the perceived impact of convergent technologies adoption in service organisations context and further examines the resultant organisational performance, based on these dimensions. The study used partial least squares (PLS) approach to evaluate the measurement model and the structural model. The study was conducted in service industry firms that have made a significant progression towards adopting convergent technologies. The results of the study demonstrated higher levels of perceived impact of adoption of convergent technologies on all the four dimensions (i.e. task productivity, task innovation, customer satisfaction and management control). The results of the study also indicate that all the impact dimensions positively influence organisational performance. The results of the study suggest that all the impact dimensions positively influence organisation, therefore the service sector managers should be aware about the role of adopting latest convergent technologies so as to enhance the task productivity, innovation, customer satisfaction and management control in their job roles. The practical implications of this research are derived on the basis of Future of Work, Labour Market Information Systems, Productivity, Enterprise Development, Enhancing skills of service employees and Employability themes. To researchers best knowledge is to first study of its kind to evaluate the perceived impact of convergent technologies on organisational performance in Indian context.

Abstract: Drawing from the positive organizational change theory, this paper aims to explore how Indian flexpatriates responded to the change brought by the pandemic of COVID‐19 and what is the new normal according to them. Thematic analysis of 19 in‐depth interviews with flexpatriates from the IT industry revealed four explicit phases of change process – reflection, communication, collaboration, and transformation. Further, the analysis brought out four tenets of the new normal. First, it is time to blend physical and virtual work second, the “personal” touch of Indians in international assignments is irreplaceable third, working from home amidst the entire household being housebound is the new normal and last, international travel will resume soon with some changed protocols. This is the first qualitative study combining the issue of global talent management with Indian flexpatriates vis‐à‐vis the impact of COVID‐19, the findings of which expand the positive organizational change theory and have important implications.

Abstract: The purpose of this paper is to understand the impact of transformational leadership (TL) on follower emotional intelligence (EI) and examine the potential mediation role played by follower EI in the relationship between TL and follower outcomes (i.e. growth satisfaction in the job and job stress (JS)). Data were obtained through survey using questionnaire collected from 908 employees who worked across six different sectors, i.e. manufacturing, IT, healthcare, hospitality, educational and public services in Southern India. The mediation model proposed in this study was tested using structural equation modelling and bootstrapping method. The relationship between TL and Follower EI was significant. Follower EI was found to partially mediate the relationship between TL and followers’ growth satisfaction in job. Contrary to expectations, the follower EI did not significantly predict JS in this study and hence the follower EI did not mediate in the proposed model. However, follower EI and growth satisfaction in the job jointly mediated the relationship between TL and follower JS fully. Self-report bias about supervisors’ TL behaviours and followers’ own EI assessment and collection of data from the mono-source (subordinate self-report) might have impacted the results of this study. Moreover, some items were negatively worded and reverse coded as cognitive speed bumps to restrain the respondent’s tendency to rush through answering the survey questionnaire. This study established a partial and joint mediation of follower EI on the relationship between TL and follower outcomes. Basing on these findings, this study highlights the need for the practitioners to better understand the importance of EI training for the leaders in the organisations for obtaining better outcomes in the followers. The study establishes the fact that the attunement of transformational leaders’ EI and follower EI help leaders as well as followers to guide their behaviour towards positive outcomes. This study is among the first to examine the impact of TL on follower EI and the potential mediation of follower EI between TL and follower outcomes. From a theoretical perspective, this study is one step closer to fully understand the intervening process between TL and follower outcomes.
