Abstract: Two novel three-dimensional (3D) extended vanadogermanate-based frameworks, [Co(pdn)(2)](3)[Co(2)(pdn)(4)][V(16)Ge(4)O(44)(OH)(2)(H(2)O)]·5H(2)O (1), [Co(2)(en)(3)][Co(en)(2)](2)[Co(en)(2)(H(2)O)][V(16)Ge(4)O(44)(OH)(2)(H(2)O)]·10.5H(2)O (2), (pdn = 1,2-propanediamine, en = ethylenediamine) have been synthesized under hydrothermal conditions via changing the organic amine. X-ray crystal structure analyses reveal that both frameworks are built of [V(16)Ge(4)O(44)(OH)(2)(H(2)O)](10-) anions and different Co-amine cations. They represent the first ex le of incorporating elemental Co into the extended vanadogermanate frameworks. Compound 1 shows a 3D framework with NaCl topology based on {V(16)Ge(4)} clusters as nodes, while compound 2 exhibits a 3D (4,6)-connected network with a Schläfli symbol of (4(6)·6(7)·8(2))(2)(4(2)·6(4)), which is found for the first time in polyoxovanadate chemistry. The erse types of metal-organoamine subunits play critical roles in the formation on the final structures. Furthermore, variable temperature susceptibility measurements on compounds 1 and 2 demonstrate the presence of anticipated rare ferrimagnetic behavior.

Abstract: Two novel sandwich-type polyanions containing hexagonal {V=O}(6) group (H(2)tpy)(Hbpe)(3)H[(VO)(6)(SbW(9)O(33))(2)]·2H(2)O (1) and (H(2)tcy)(6)(Hbpp)(6)H(4)[VW(12)O(40)][(VO)(6)(SbW(9)O(33))(2)](3)·30H(2)O (2) (tpy = 4-(2,3,4-tri(pyridin-4-yl)butyl)pyridine, bpe = 1,2-(4-pyridyl)ethene, tcy = 1,2,4,5-tetra(pyridin-4-yl)cyclohexanol, bpp = 1,3-bis-(4-pyridyl)propane), were reported. Both compounds are built upon the complex hydrogen bonding networks of C-H···O and N-H···O occurred among inorganic anions and organic cations. Unusual in situ organic reactions involving C-C coupling are also observed in 1 and 2 regardless of the rigid bpe or flexible bpp. Compound 2 represents a rare case in which nano-sized α-Keggin [VW(12)O(40)](4-) and sandwich-type [(VO)(6)(SbW(9)O(33))(2)](6-) anionic clusters are present in a common crystal framework.

All the four new clusters were well characterized by elemental analysis, IR, 1 H, and 13 C nuclear magnetic resonance. Furthermore, their crystal structures were determined by single‐crystal X‐ray diffraction analysis. The ruthenium clusters were proved to be efficient catalysts for the oxidation of saturated CH bonds with tert ‐butyl hydroperoxide (TBHP) as the oxidant in CH 3 CN/H 2 O (1:4) at room temperature.

Abstract: A family of organic-inorganic hybrid frameworks, {[Ln(H(2)O)(4)(pdc)](4)} [XMo(12)O(40)].2H(2)O (Ln = La, Ce, and Nd X = Si and Ge H(2)pdc = pyridine-2,6-dicarboxylate), have been prepared under hydrothermal conditions and characterized by single crystal X-ray diffraction analyses, elemental analyses, IR, and thermal gravimetric analyses. Single crystal X-ray diffraction reveals that all six compounds are isostructural, and each consists of a zeolite-like four-connected three-dimensional cationic framework {[Ln(H(2)O)(4)(pdc)](4)}(4+) and ball-shaped Keggin type [XMo(12)O(40)](4-) as templates. Interesting channels exist in the cationic framework with the gismondine topology, and these channels intersect each other to form large cavities, which array in a zigzag fashion and are occupied by nanosized [XMo(12)O(40)](4-) counterions. Moreover, these compounds display strong photoluminescent properties in the solid state at room temperature.

Abstract: A novel photosensitive organic-inorganic composite film incorporating polyoxometalate, K7[SiW11O39Co(H3P2O7)] (SiW11CoPP), and diazoresin (DR) has been prepared via layer-by-layer (LBL) self-assembly. Under UV irradiation, followed the decomposition of diazonium in DR, the ionic bonds between the adjacent interfaces of the multilayer film convert to covalent bonds. The LBL multilayers were characterized by UV-vis spectroscopy, X-ray photoelectron spectra (XPS), atomic force microscopy (AFM), FTIR spectrum, cyclic voltammograms (CV), and electron spin resonance (ESR) measurements. UV spectroscopy shows that the deposition process is regular and highly reproducible from layer to layer. XPS spectra confirm the incorporation of DR and SiW(11)CoPP into the films. Atomic force microscopy image indicates that the film surface is uniform and smooth. Solvent etching experiment proves that the film has significant stability towards polar solvent. Electrochemical behavior of the multilayers is investigated.

Abstract: Three polyanion-containing supramolecular hybrids, (H2bpp)6{Ni[Mo(V)6O13(OH)2(HPO4)3(H2PO4)]2}2·13H2O [1 bpp = 1,3-bis(4-pyridyl)propane], (H2bpp)5{Cd[Mo(V)6O15(HPO4)3(H2PO4)]2}{Cd[Mo(V)6O15(HPO4)4]2}·10H2O (2), (H2bpp)2[Cd(H2O)Cd(H2O)2]2{Cd[Mo(V)6O12(OH)3(HPO4)2(PO4)2]2}·8H2O (3), have been synthesized and characterized. The inorganic moieties in 1-3 belong to the reduced {M[P4Mo(V)6X31]2}(n-) (M = Ni, Cd) clusters. Three supramolecular hybrids exhibit reversible multiple electron-transfer behaviors and have been used as heterogeneous molecular catalysts for the reduction of ferricyanide (Fe(III)) to ferrocyanide (Fe(II)) with Na2S2O3 as a reductant. The experimental results indicate that hybrid materials 1-3 have higher catalytic activity toward the reaction. These low-cost catalysts can effectively decrease the activation energy of this reaction. These values are calculated to be 25.35 kJ·mol(-1) for hybrid 2, 84.11 kJ·mol(-1) for hybrid 1, and 83.14 kJ·mol(-1) for hybrid 3. The reaction mechanism is subjected to a surface-catalytic process.

Abstract: A 1D double‐chain assembly based on the monosubstituted Keggin polyoxometalate (POM) with pendant ligands and of formula {[Ag 2 (bppy) 3 ][Ag(bppy) 2 ][Ag(bppy)] 2 PW 11 Co(bppy)O 39 }·2H 2 O ( 1 ) [bppy = 5‐(4‐bromophenyl)‐2‐(4‐pyridinyl)pyridine] has been synthesised and characterised. The crystals of 1 belong to the space group P $\\bar 1$ , Mr = 5801.06, a = 18.720(4) Å, b = 19.474(4) Å, c = 19.815(4) Å, α = 96.30(3), β = 96.07(3), γ = 90.12(3)°, V = 7139(2) Å 3 , Z = 2, D calcd. = 2.699 Mg·m −3 . The final statistics based on F 2 are GOF = 1.007, R 1 = 0.0620 and wR 2 = 0.1346 for I 2σ( I ). X‐ray diffraction analysis revealed that the structure of 1 contains a 1D chain constructed from a monosubstituted tungstophosphate with one pendant conjugated ligand, five silver−bppy groups and two water molecules. The periphery of the Keggin cluster consists of five Ag−bppy groups so that a bicapped trisupporting Keggin structure is obtained. It is rare that a Keggin anion cluster is simultaneously coordinated to five transition metal atoms. (© Wiley‐VCH Verlag GmbH & Co. KGaA, 69451 Weinheim, Germany, 2005)

Abstract: Visible‐light‐driven photocatalytic Cr(VI) reduction is a promising pathway to moderate environmental pollution, in which the development of photocatalysts is pivotal. Herein, three hourglass‐type phosphomolybdate‐based hybrids with the formula of: (H 2 bpe) 3 [Zn(H 2 PO 4 )][Zn(bpe)(H 2 O) 2 ]H{Zn[P 4 Mo 6 O 31 H 6 ] 2 } ⋅ 6H 2 O ( 1 ) Na 6 [H 2 bz] 2 [ZnNa 4 (H 2 O) 5 ]{Zn [P 4 Mo 6 O 31 H 3 ] 2 } ⋅ 2H 2 O ( 2 ) and (H 2 mbpy) {[Zn(mbpy)(H 2 O)] 2 [Zn(H 2 O)] 2 }{Zn[P 4 Mo 6 O 31 H 6 ] 2 } ⋅ 10H 2 O ( 3 ) (bpe=trans‐1,2‐bi(4‐pyridyl)‐ethylene bz=4,4′‐diaminobiphenyl mbpy=4,4’‐dimethyl‐2,2’bipyridine) were synthesized under the guidance of the functional organic moiety modification strategy. Structural analysis showed that hybrids 1 – 3 have similar 2D layer‐like spatial arrangements constructed by {Zn[P 4 Mo 6 ] 2 } clusters and organic components with different conjugated degree. With excellent redox properties and wide visible‐light absorption capacities, hybrids 1 – 3 display favourable photocatalytic activity for Cr(VI) reduction with 79%, 70% and 64% reduction rates, which are superior to that of only inorganic {Zn[P 4 Mo 6 ] 2 } itself (21%). The investigation of organic components on photocatalytic performance of hybrids 1 – 3 suggested that the organic counter cations (bpe, bz and mbpy) can effectively affect the visible‐light absorption, as well as the recombination of photogenerated carriers stemmed from {Zn[P 4 Mo 6 ] 2 } clusters, further promoting their photocatalytic performances towards Cr(VI) reduction. This work provides an experimental basis for the design of functionalized photocatalysts via the modification of organic species.

Abstract: Through tuning the length of flexible bis(triazole) ligands and different metal ion coordination geometries, four Wells-Dawson polyoxoanion-based hybrid compounds, [Cu 6(btp) 3(P 2W 18O 62)].3H 2O ( 1) (btp = 1,3-bis(1,2,4-triazol-1-y1)propane), [Cu 6(btb) 3((P 2W 18O 62)].2H 2O ( 2), [Cu 3(btb) 6(P 2W 18O 62)].6H 2O (btb = 1,4-bis(1,2,4-triazol-1-y1)butane) ( 3), and [Cu 3(btx) 5.5((P 2W 18O 62)].4H 2O (btx = 1,6-bis(1,2,4-triazol-1-y1)hexane) ( 4), were synthesized and structurally characterized. In compound 1, the metal-organic motif exhibits a ladder-like chain, which is further fused by the ennead-dentate [P 2W 18O 62] (6-) anions to construct a 3D structure. In compound 2, the metal-organic motif exhibits an interesting Cu-btb grid layer, and the ennead-dentate polyoxoanions are sandwiched by two Cu-btb layers to construct a 3D structure. Compound 3 exhibits a (4 (2).6 (2).8 (2)) 3D Cu-btb framework with square and hexagonal channels arranged alternately. The hexa-dentate polyoxoanions incorporate only into the hexagonal channels. In compound 4, there exist two sets of (6 (1).10 (2)) 2(6 (1).8 (2).10 (3)) 3D Cu-btx frameworks to generate a 2-fold interpenetrated structure into which the penta-dentate polyoxoanions are inserted to construct a 3D structure. The structural analyses reveal that the length of flexible bis(triazole) ligands and metal ion coordination geometries have a synergic influence on the structures of this series. To our knowledge, they have the highest connectivity for the Wells-Dawson polyoxometalate coordination polymers to date.

X-ray diffraction analysis revealed that compound 1 consists of an unusually one-dimensional 12-tungstovanadate Keggin-based polymer, in which the reduced tungstovanadate Keggin species are stabilized by introducing capping {VO} and {Sb} groups and then linked into chains via V(Sb)–O–V(Sb) interactions. Both 2 and 3 are built from secondary metal–ligand groups (Co-phen for 2, Ni-phen for 3) and 12-molybdovanadate doped Keggin-type cores with two antimony atoms capping two opposite sites. The anion in 3 represents a bi-capped and bi-supported Keggin-type structure. The electrochemical properties of 2- and 3-modified carbon paste electrodes (2-CPE and 3-CPE) are also studied.

Abstract: An in situ ligand reaction from the pyridine cycle to -COO- in the copper-organic framework is achieved under hydrothermal conditions. Compound [Cu2(bpa)4] [1 bpa=5-(4-bromophenyl)picolinic acid] exhibits a one-dimensional chain architecture based on weak Cu-O interactions. The mechanism of ligand transformation is discussed.

Abstract: Treatment of Ru 3 (CO) 12 with one equivalent of 2‐indolyl‐6‐pyridinyl‐alcohol ligands 2‐(C 8 H 6 N)‐6‐(CR 1 R 2 OH)C 5 H 3 N (R 1 = R 2 = Me ( L1H ) R 1 = R 2 = C 2 H 5 ( L2H ) R 1 , R 2 = −(CH 2 ) 4 ‐ ( L3H ) & R 1 , R 2 = −(CH 2 ) 5 ‐ ( L4H )) in refluxing THF afforded the corresponding trinuclear ruthenium clusters L(μ 2 ‐H)Ru 3 (CO) 9 ( 1a – 1d ), respectively. All the novel Ru complexes were well characterized by NMR, elemental analyses and IR spectra. Structures of complexes 1a , 1c , and 1d were further determined by X‐ray crystallographic studies. Complexes 1a – 1d were applied to catalytic Oppenauer‐type oxidation of secondary alcohols with acetone as oxidant, and complex 1a was found to be the most efficient catalyst.
