Abstract: The axions and axion-like particles can be detected via a resonant atomic or molecular transition induced by axion absorption. The signal obtained in this process is second order in the axion-electron interaction constant and hence small. In this chapter, it is demonstrated that this signal may become first order in the axion-electron interaction constant if we allow the interference between the axion-induced transition litude and the transition litude induced by the electromagnetic radiation. Additionally, we show that the conventional scheme of producing axions from photons in a magnetic field may be improved if the field is replaced by an atomic medium in which photons scattering off the atoms in the forward direction are transformed into axions.

Abstract: Experiments with paramagnetic ground or metastable excited states of molecules (ThO, HfF + , YbF, YbOH, BaF, PbO, etc.) provide strong constraints on the electron electric dipole moment (EDM) and the coupling constant C SP of contact semileptonic interaction. We compute new contributions to C SP arising from the nucleon EDMs due to the combined electric and magnetic electron-nucleon interaction. This allows us to improve limits from the experiments with paramagnetic molecules on the CP -violating parameters, such as the proton EDM, | d p | 1 . 1 × 10 − 23 e· cm, the QCD vacuum angle, $$ \left|\overline{\theta}\right| $$ θ ¯ 1 . 4 × 10 − 8 , as well as the quark chromo-EDMs and the π -meson-nucleon couplings. Our results may also be used to search for the axion dark matter which produces oscillating $$ \overline{\theta} $$ θ ¯ .

Abstract: We consider the noncommutative hypermultiplet model within harmonic superspace approach. The one-loop four-point contributions to the effective action of self-interacting q-hypermultiplet are computed. This model has two coupling constants instead of a single one in commutative case. It is shown that both coupling constants are generated by one-loop quantum corrections in the model of q-hypermultiplet interacting with vector multiplet. The holomorphic effective action of q-hypermultiplet in external gauge superfield is calculated. For the fundamental representation there is no uv/ir-mixing and the holomorphic potential is a ⋆-product generalization of a standard commutative one. For the adjoint representation of U(N) gauge group the leading contributions to the holomorphic effective action are given by the terms respecting for the uv/ir-mixing which are related to U(1) phase of U(N) group.

Abstract: We develop a superfield approach to compute chiral anomalies in general $$ \\mathcal{N} $$ N = (1,0) supersymmetric gauge theories in six dimensions. Within the harmonic-superspace formulation for these gauge theories, the anomalous contributions to the effective action only come from matter and ghost hypermultiplets. By studying the short-distance behaviour of the propagator for the hypermultiplet coupled to a background vector multiplet, we compute the covariant and consistent chiral anomalies. We also provide a superform formulation for the non-abelian anomalous current multiplet in general $$ \\mathcal{N} $$ N = (1, 0) supersymmetric gauge theories.

Abstract: We study the structure of holomorphic effective action generated by hypermultiplet models interacting with background super-Yang–Mills fields. A general form of holomorphic effective action depending on background fields is found for hypermultiplet belonging to arbitrary representation of any semisimple compact Lie group spontaneously broken to its maximal Abelian subgroup. Resulting effective action is defined by the superfield strengths lying in Cartan subalgebra of the gauge algebra. The applications of the obtained results to hypermultiplets in fundamental and adjoint representations of the SU (n), SO (n), Sp (n) groups are considered.
