Abstract: This study assesses potentially sensitive effects of a specific sub-class of digital social technologies called social broadcasting networks (SBNs). Adopting the explanatory mechanisms of social network structures (Borgatti et al. 2009 Kane et al. 2014), and adapting Herzberg et al’s (1959) Two Factor theory, it investigates how the structure of a SBN (conceptualized as its relative advantage), and the influence of users in a SBN empower two key news consumption behaviours viz. switching and continuance. Employing the survey (qualitative) method, the study empirically validates the news consumption behaviours of 325 respondents. Findings reveal a more nuanced role of SBNs indicating the potential benefits to news firms because of in iduals switching to traditional news mediums while in the same breadth highlights the potential of SBNs as competitive news providers. It shows intermittent use of SBNs and signifies that when online and offline news mediums co-exist, influence of users in the incumbent (online) medium plays a powerful role in inducing or refraining the use of a substitute offline medium. This study develops new ontological and theoretical understanding of the entanglement of technology and social activity that is dynamic, at times ephemeral and pervasively ubiquitous.

Abstract: Companies face the challenges of expanding their markets, improving products, services and processes, and exploiting intellectual capital in a dynamic network. Therefore, more companies are turning to an Enterprise System (ES). Knowledge management (KM) has also received considerable attention and is continuously gaining the interest of industry, enterprises, and academia. For ES, KM can provide support across the entire lifecycle, from selection and implementation to use. In addition, it is also recognised that an ontology is an appropriate methodology to accomplish a common consensus of communication, as well as to support a ersity of KM activities, such as knowledge repository, retrieval, sharing, and dissemination. This paper examines the role of ontology-based KM for ES (OKES) and investigates the possible integration of ontology-based KM and ES. The authors develop a taxonomy as a framework for understanding OKES research. In order to achieve the objective of this study, a systematic review of existing research was conducted. Based on a theoretical framework of the ES lifecycle, KM, KM for ES, ontology, and ontology-based KM, guided by the framework of study, a taxonomy for OKES is established.

Abstract: Thin-film composite (TFC) structure has been widely employed in polymeric membrane fabrication to achieve superior performance for desalination and water treatment. In particular, TFC membranes with a thin active polyamide (PA) selective layer are proven to offer improved permeability without compromising salt rejection. Several modifications to TFCs have been proposed over the years to enhance their performance by altering the selective, intermediate, or support layer. This study proposes the modification of the membrane support using nanozeolites prepared by a unique ball milling technique for tailoring the nanofiltration performance. TFC membranes were fabricated by the interfacial polymerization of Piperazine (PIP) and 1,3,5-Benzenetricarbonyl trichloride (TMC) on Polysulfone (PSf) supports modified with nanozeolites. The nanozeolite concentration in the casting solution varied from 0 to 0.2%. Supports prepared with different nanozeolite concentrations resulted in varied hydrophilicity, porosity, and permeability. Results showed that optimum membrane performance was obtained for supports modified with 0.1% nanozeolites where pure water permeance of 17.1 ± 2.1 Lm−2 h−1 bar−1 was observed with a salt rejection of 11.47%, 33.84%, 94%, and 95.1% for NaCl, MgCl2, MgSO4, and Na2SO4 respectively.

Abstract: Organizations invest substantial resources in acquiring Enterprise Systems, presumably expecting positive impacts to the organization and its functions. Despite the optimistic motives, some Enterprise System projects have reported nil or detrimental impacts. This chapter explores the proposition that the size of the organization (e.g. medium, large) may contribute to the differences in benefits received. The alleged differences in organizational performance are empirically measured using a prior validated model, using four dimensions employing data gathered from 310 respondents representing 27 organizations.

Abstract: Dominant spinocerebellar ataxias (SCA) are characterized by genetic heterogeneity. Some mapped and named loci remain without a causal gene identified. Here we applied next generation sequencing (NGS) to uncover the genetic etiology of the SCA25 locus . Whole‐exome and whole‐genome sequencing were performed in families linked to SCA25 , including the French family in which the SCA25 locus was originally mapped. Whole exome sequence data were interrogated in a cohort of 796 ataxia patients of unknown etiology. The SCA25 phenotype spans a slowly evolving sensory and cerebellar ataxia, in most cases attributed to ganglionopathy. A pathogenic variant causing exon skipping was identified in the gene encoding Polyribonucleotide Nucleotidyltransferase PNPase 1 ( PNPT1) located in the SCA25 linkage interval. A second splice variant in PNPT1 was detected in a large Australian family with a dominant ataxia also mapping to SCA25 . An additional nonsense variant was detected in an unrelated in idual with ataxia. Both nonsense and splice heterozygous variants result in premature stop codons, all located in the S1‐domain of PNPase. In addition, an elevated type I interferon response was observed in blood from all affected heterozygous carriers tested. PNPase notably prevents the abnormal accumulation of double‐stranded mtRNAs in the mitochondria and leakage into the cytoplasm, associated with triggering a type I interferon response. This study identifies PNPT1 as a new SCA gene, responsible for SCA25, and highlights biological links between alterations of mtRNA trafficking, interferonopathies and ataxia. ANN NEUROL 2022 :122–137

Abstract: Due to their stable chemical properties and complex structures, dyes are difficult to be removed from water. Herein, a ZIF-67/SA@PVDF (ZSA3@PVDF) mixed matrix membrane has been fabricated by incorporating silicon aerogel (SA) and zeolitic imidazolate framework material 67 (ZIF-67) nanoparticles in a polyvinylidene fluoride (PVDF) membrane for the removal and degradation of dyes from water. The influence of SA and ZIF-67 on the morphology and structure of the membrane was confirmed using scanning electron microscope (SEM) and atomic force microscope (AFM). In ZSA3@PVDF membrane, both SA and ZIF-67 are highly porous nanomaterials that possess good adsorption capacity, as confirmed by the Brunauer–Emmett–Teller (BET) result. In addition, the cobalt (Co) element of ZIF-67 can catalyze peroxymonosulfate (PMS) to generate strong oxidizing sulfate radicals (SO42−), contributing to improving regeneration capacity of the ZIF-67/SA@PVDF membrane. The water flux of ZSA3@PVDF membrane is 427.6 L m−2 h−1 bar−1, and the Methylene blue (MB) removal rate is higher than 99% when filtrating 100 mL MB solution (5 mg/L). The regeneration test result shows that the removal rate of the ZSA3@PVDF membrane is still above 98% after five cycles of adsorption of MB. The self-cleaning experiment shows that the adsorption of SA in the ZSA3@PVDF membrane promotes the catalytic performance of the membrane, showing a better self-cleaning ability. The ZSA3@PVDF membrane provides a new strategy for the removal of dyes in the advanced purification of dye wastewater.

Abstract: The purpose of this paper is to empirically demonstrate how knowledge management, particularly knowledge integration (KI), acts as a mediator in enterprise systems (ES) post-implementation stage and how transactional and transformational leadership styles are impacted toward ES success. Drawing on the insights of 508 valid respondents from various business backgrounds that used ES in Malaysia, structural equation modeling was employed and the path modeling approach was used to investigate the underlying relationships between variables. The mediating effects were tested using the bootstrapping procedures presented by Preacher and Hayes. The results support the mediating effects of KI mechanisms and both leadership styles toward ES success. The analysis revealed the importance of KI in an organization, especially by the leaders who manage the complexity of the ES in the post-implementation stage. The study can be extended by analyzing other leadership styles in-detail. This paper is useful for practitioners as it acts as a guide to conduct management practice for business managers. The results demonstrate the importance of leaders’ adoption of KI mechanisms in various business domains. This study approach can be used to investigate which sub-items of the leadership styles are more likely to promote KI mechanisms.
