Abstract: This study is aimed at examining the long-term effects of chronic pain during early life (postnatal day 0 to 8weeks), and intervention using sucrose, on cognitive functions during adulthood in rats. Pain was induced in rat pups via needle pricks of the paws. Sucrose solution or paracetamol was administered for analgesia before the paw prick. Control groups include tactile stimulation to account for handling and touching the paws, and sucrose alone was used. All treatments were started on day one of birth and continued for 8weeks. At the end of the treatments, behavioral studies were conducted to test the spatial learning and memory using radial arm water maze (RAWM), as well as pain threshold via foot-withdrawal response to a hot plate apparatus. Additionally, the hippoc us was dissected, and blood was collected. Levels of neurotrophins (BDNF, IGF-1 and NT-3) and endorphins were assessed using ELISA. The results show that chronic noxious stimulation resulted in comparable foot-withdrawal latency between noxious and tactile groups. On the other hand, pretreatment with sucrose or paracetamol increased pain threshold significantly both in naive rats and noxiously stimulated rats (P<0.05). Chronic pain during early life impaired short-term memory, and sucrose treatment prevented such impairment (P<0.05). Sucrose significantly increased serum levels of endorphin and enkephalin. Chronic pain decreased levels of BDNF in the hippoc us and this decrease was prevented by sucrose and paracetamol treatments. Hippoc al levels of NT-3 and IGF-1 were not affected by any treatment. In conclusion, chronic pain induction during early life induced short memory impairment, and pretreatment with sucrose prevented this impairment via mechanisms that seem to involve BDNF. As evident in the results, sucrose, whether alone or in the presence of pre-noxious stimulation, increases pain threshold in such circumstances most likely via a mechanism that involves an increase in endogenous opioids.

Abstract: Background . Acne is a common condition of pilosebaceous follicle especially among young. Clinically, the most used medication in the treatment of moderate to severe acne is oral isotretinoin. However, interin idual variability in therapeutic response to isotretinoin and many side effects such as musculoskeletal pain, headache, and alteration in lipid profile can be seen with this treatment. Aim . In this study, the effect of genetic polymorphisms, rs2241766 and rs1501299, of the adiponectin gene was investigated in relation to the side effects of isotretinoin-treated young adult acne patients ( n = 230). Methods . Several biochemical parameters were measured at baseline and after treatments with isotretinoin. The ADIPOQ gene SNPs, rs2241766 and rs1501299, were genotyped in 230 patients. Results . Alterations in lipid profile with a significant increase of ALT ( P = 0.007 ) were detected after isotretinoin treatment. Moreover, percentage change in HDL following isotretinoin treatment was significantly associated with rs1501299 ( P = 0.008 ). On the other hand, no associations between examined SNPs and side effects of isotretinoin and other lipid parameters (total cholesterol, LDL, and triglycerides) or liver function enzymes (ALT and AST) were detected. Conclusions . Current findings showed that rs1501299 of the ADIPOQ gene might be associated with changes in HDL level in acne patients following treatment with isotretinoin.

Abstract: Background and Aim: Human monkeypox is an emerging global threat. Hundreds of publications were disseminated in the last few months. This study aimed to map, analyze, and evaluate the bibliometric indicators of the global monkeypox research output. Materials and Methods: All documents published in the past 20 years were retrieved using the Scopus database. Papers published in English and peer-reviewed journals were included. VOSviewer was used to create density and network visualization maps. Results: A total of 1725 published documents were retrieved. Of these, 53% were published in 2022. The average number of authors per document was 4.2. Authors from the USA were the most active and published about 42.1% of the total documents. International collaboration was evident between the USA and both UK and Congo. Keywords mapping identified the main research lines in this field that correlate monkeypox with public health, smallpox, vaccination, and antiviral treatment. Conclusion: This study analyzed and mapped the expanding field of monkeypox research across the world. The bibliometric analysis revealed that the United States has contributed greatly in terms of both in idual researchers and academic institutions. There was less cooperation on a global scale than was anticipated. Fostering international cooperation is essential for countering this worldwide danger. Additional scientific research should be conducted to investigate the link between smallpox immunization and monkeypox epidemics.
