Funded Activity Summary

Dietary ?-3 and ?-6 fatty acids respectively decrease and increase the risk of cancer spread, or metastasis. We have found that ?-3 fatty acid epoxide metabolites inhibit the growth and migration of tumour cells. We have prepared derivatives of these ?-3 epoxides that retain anti-cancer properties in cells. In this project we will develop analogues of these ?-3 epoxides that are suitable for in vivo testing in animal models of breast cancer metastasis as a new class of potential anti-metastatic drugs.
