Funded Activity Summary

Human papillomavirus (HPV)-induced oropharyngeal squamous cell carcinoma has a significantly better prognosis than that caused by tobacco and/or alcohol. The favorable prognosis is due to a better response to treatment with radiation therapy and chemotherapy but the exact mechanisms are still not clear. This project will investigate these mechanisims at the molecular level and ultimately it will lead us to the development of strategies to improve the response of both HPV and non-HPV induced oropharyngeal cancer to radiation therapy.
