Securing Australia's Future: Project 2-STEM: Country comparisons. Government has identified the opportunities and challenges of an economy in transition as a key issue for Australia as it faces a rapidly changing global environment. A vibrant capacity in Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics is pivotal to increasing our nations productivity. The project will build on recent research, commissioned by Australia's Chief Scientist, to identify STEM skills shortages, understand issues relating to the formation and maintenance of a STEM skills workforce and propose a set of options for increasing Australias productivity and international competitiveness.
