Funded Activity Summary

Energy and Nanotechnology: Developing a Strategy for Australia’s Future. The aim of the project is to bring together energy and nanotechnology researchers and technologists to produce a definitive report on breakthrough energy solutions based on nanotechnology to reduce carbon dioxide emissions from fossil fuels and the economic and social impacts resulting from major changes in climate. The expected outcomes of the project will be: identify a coherent approach to the application of nanotechnologies to energy generation, storage and utilization in Australia; improved linkages between researchers and users of research in the nanotechnology/energy area; a contribution to future planning for reduced carbon dioxide emissions to alleviate the impacts of expected climate change; and a better understanding of the directions of world research in the areas of interest and a more focused approach in Australia. The research outputs will have been tested for commercial feasibility and the final report is highly likely to be considered by Government as an input to policy formulation in considering allocation of resources for research and development. The significance of this project is that it will provide a help shape the future path of energy research in Australia. The long-term social and economic benefits to Australia resulting from this project will be substantial and long-lasting.
