Funded Activity Summary

Prediction and measurement of transmission error in a rear axle differential and its relationship to vehicle noise. Noise and vibration of vehicles is an important consideration for both performance efficiency and passenger comfort. Gear noise is a significant contributor to NVH of vehicles. Gear transmission error is recognised as the main source of gear drive vibration. This proposal involves the prediction and measurement of gear transmission error of a rear axle differential. A second important component is to investigate the effect of various vehicle parameters and operating conditions such as speed, load and power on the noise produced for a given TE. The successful outcomes will result in great economic benefit to Australia's automotive and manufacturing industry.
