Funded Activity Summary

Design and optimisation of metal hydride hydrogen storage tanks. This project aims to tackle the bottlenecks of the current metal hydride hydrogen storage tank developed by the key industry partner LAVO, i.e., limited storage capacity and non-efficient structure design. Through advanced numerical modelling and machine learning methods, the metal hydride hydrogen storage tank will be optimised by redesigning advanced heat management systems and optimised hydride materials, enabling it to store and deliver hydrogen in a more controllable way with high performance. Expected outcomes of the project include the numerical platform to improve the material and design iteration and a prototype of the next-generation metal hydride hydrogen storage system. This opens a new market for Australian-H2 storage tanks.
