Funded Activity Summary

Singing the Future: assessing the effectiveness of repatriation. The project aims to advance knowledge about musical vitality and resilience and to develop tools to better sustain endangered indigenous music for the benefit of cultural heritage communities, Australia and the world. Music endangerment presents a crisis for local and global societies, due to the critical role that musical vitality plays in maintaining human diversity and sustainability. Repatriation of legacy song records has been a key research intervention used to address this crisis. Using cross-national research in Australia and Uganda, the project plans to investigate the effectiveness of legacy records and new technologies for their dissemination in the task of supporting musical vitality.
