Funded Activity Summary

On-chip radio frequency photonics for advanced signal processing. This project proposes new integrated photonic modules to tackle challenges in on-chip photonic processing of wideband radio frequency signals. It will develop enhanced electromagnetically induced transparency for RF frequency filtering, compact all-in-one phase shifter for adaptive beamforming and programmable signal processing, and distributed and cascaded signal processing functions in photonic links. The outcomes are new high-performance integrated microwave photonic signal processors, which will enhance the generation, processing, and distribution of microwave and millimetre-wave signals in radio astronomy, wireless and satellite communications, and produce significant improvements in radar/antenna systems.
