Funded Activity Summary

The ingredients of conscious identification. Research from a variety of psychological domains indicates that a lot of mental processing goes on unconsciously, but that we are only generally aware of a small fraction of the information delivered by our senses. This research will provide new insights into the cognitive and neural mechanisms underlying our conscious and unconscious identification of visual stimuli and will lead to a better understanding of the limitations we are likely to experience under conditions which make different demands on our perception, attention and the need to remember the relevant information. The results will also inform assessment and remediation of neurological conditions such as stroke and dementia.
