Funded Activity Summary

gem-Dihalogenocyclopropanes as building blocks for the chemical synthesis of biologically active natural products and their analogues. New and efficient methods for the assembly of biologically active compounds will emerge from this research and thus provide materials for evaluation as potential therapeutics in the treatment of a range of pathological conditions including Alzheimer's disease and certain types of lung cancers that respond poorly to currently available treatments. The underpinning methodologies are also likely to provide opportunities in other areas, including materials science. The training of a highly capable post-doctoral in chemical synthesis, an area where there is now an extraordinary and unsatisfied demand for such expertise, will be a further benefit of the proposed program of research.
