Funded Activity Summary

Distributed Autonomic Management (DAM): A New Paradigm for Integrated Network Management. Integrated network management (encompassing the integrated management of networks, systems and applications) systems are now based on the client-server paradigm using the manager-agent model standardised by ISO 7498-4 and IETF SNMP. The limitations of this paradigm are now evident in view of evolving active network technologies, the need for bandwidth optimisation, and escalating threats of cyber-terrorism that need to be effectively managed for the future success of evolving e-business services. Researchers have tried (with limited success) to use the intelligent agent approach to solve this problem. This project aims to develop and validate a new paradigm for integrated network management, called Distributed Autonomic Management (DAM) based on a community of cooperative static and mobile agents.
