Funded Activity Summary

Traceability as a mode of ordering: implications for developing countries’ participation in international agro-food systems. This project will critically assess the role of product traceability in the restructuring of developing country agro-food exporting, and to what extent it may represent an emerging mode of ordering in international food systems. Through ten case studies in Indonesia, China and India, the project will document the ways in which traceability is influencing patterns of competitive advantage and market access. Findings from the research will impact upon the analysis of ongoing agricultural negotiations in multilateral fora, will have relevance for Australian policy in areas of food safety and security, and will generate new conceptual insights regarding the agro-food globalisation.
