Funded Activity Summary

Mapping fertility control among migrant and refugee women in Australia. This project aims to increase understanding of fertility control among migrant and refugee women living in Australia. This vulnerable group of women report low rates of contraception use and high rates of unintended pregnancy, with significant negative health implications. This project will examine women’s negotiation of fertility control, within the context of broader sexual and reproductive embodiment. It will provide novel insight into women’s negotiation of contraception choice and sides effects, abortion and reproductive coercion, recognising women’s agency, across a range of cultural contexts and backgrounds. These findings will provide recommendations for culturally meaningful health promotion activities and healthcare provision.
