A historical study of modern Iran and its diaspora through the music, career and cultural significance of pop star Googoosh. The Iranian celebrity and cultural icon Googoosh has played a central role in the development of Iranian popular music. This project provides the first extensive analysis of Googoosh's music, the historical conditions that have shaped her career and the significance ascribed to her by generations of fans, detractors and other listeners.
