Funded Activity Summary

Australian Astronomy Decadal Plan. This initiative will enable the entire Australian community to contribute fully to a decadal plan for Australian astronomy. The benefit to the community of having a unified strategic plan may been seen from the success of the previous decadal plan (1996-2005); during which period Australia has gained access to new generation of large optical telescopes and established itself as a leader in the international Square Kilometre Array radio telescope program; the two major priorities of the previous plan. It has also resulted in a highly productive and coherent community, with the highest international citation impact of any Australian scientific discipline (DEST, At a Glance 2004).
