Funded Activity Summary

Custom Computing for DNA Analysis of Third Generation Sequencers. The project aims to create a Domain Specific Computing System to analyse data emerging from third-generation DNA sequencers. The significance is that such a system will enable in-situ analysis, facilitating far wider deployment of modern DNA technologies. The expected outcome will be a portable low-power computing system containing custom instructions, custom cache configurations, and custom architectures. Benefits include: 1. deployment of DNA analysis techniques in remote areas and in places without large servers and access to high-speed networks connecting to cloud servers; 2. quicker analysis enabling rapid response, cheaper, portable systems; and, 3. training for a cohort of research and honours students.
