Funded Activity Summary

Impact of spatially uniform and irregular rough surfaces on drag reduction. This project aims to understand the turbulent transport mechanism for fluid flow over spatially uniform and irregular rough walls. It will provide accurate modelling of irregular roughness and high fidelity simulations. The intended outcomes are physical understanding of the turbulence phenomenon in these flows, and novel flow control of irregular rough wall flows leading to significant drag reduction for transport industries in Australia. Benefits are relevant to both engineering applications involving rough walls and to environmental applications enabling better prediction of particulate matter dispersion
