Funded Activity Summary

Cellular uptake of glutathione transferases and their development as cell transfection agents. The function and survival of all cells requires the importation of a vast array of biochemical agents. In order for this to occur, these agents must be transported across the cell membrane wall. We are investigating a novel delivery system involving the enzyme glutathione transferase (GST). By investigating how GSTs cross membranes, we will be able to develop a new technology for the delivery of biologically active molecules into cells. This exciting new technique will have applications in research and in the delivery of therapeutic drugs for the treatment of a range of diseases.
