2026 ARDC Annual Survey is now open!

The Australian Research Data Commons (ARDC) invites you to participate in a short survey about your interaction with the ARDC and use of our national research infrastructure and services. The survey will take approximately 5 minutes and is anonymous. It’s open to anyone who uses our digital research infrastructure services including Reasearch Link Australia.

We will use the information you provide to improve the national research infrastructure and services we deliver and to report on user satisfaction to the Australian Government’s National Collaborative Research Infrastructure Strategy (NCRIS) program.

Please take a few minutes to provide your input. The survey closes COB Friday 29 May 2026.

Complete the 5 min survey now by clicking on the link below.

Improving The Treatment Of Infections In Children And Young Adults With Cancer.

    Funder
National Health and Medical Research Council
    Funding Amount
    $113,237.00
    Summary
Children and young adults undergoing cancer treatment are at an increased risk of infection. This is managed by admission to hospital for antibiotics which can be a frightening experience for the child and expensive for the healthcare system. While many need admission, a proportion of patients can be safely managed at home with oral or intravenous antibiotics. This project aims to identify these children and young adults, so as to improve their quality of life, and decrease cost of treatment.

Optimising Osteoporosis Management In Young Adults

    Funder
National Health and Medical Research Council
    Funding Amount
    $132,743.00
    Summary
Fragility fractures contribute to reduced quality of life in younger adults with chronic disease. However, tools for predicting these fractures and evidence for the best treatment to prevent them is lacking in this group. We aim to address these gaps in evidence through assessment of bone health in younger adults with two chronic diseases related to increased inflammation of either the bowel or joints, as they are the two leading conditions resulting in fragility fractures in younger adults.

Identifying Neuroimaging Based Biomarkers For Predicting Clinical Progression Along The Lewy Body Disease Spectrum

    Funder
National Health and Medical Research Council
    Funding Amount
    $128,224.00
    Summary
Lewy body dementias (LBD) comprise similar but heterogenous group of poorly understood disabling neurodegenerative conditions. This project aims to apply advanced neuroimaging techniques and novel psychological testing to patients at risk of Lewy body disorders as well individuals with established disease to identify novel biomarkers that may explain symptoms of these disorders as well as help predict development of LBD at its early stages when it may be amenable to neuroprotective treatments.

Participation In Online Conversations By Young People With Disabilities Who Are Non-speaking: Does E-mentoring Work?

    Funder
National Health and Medical Research Council
    Funding Amount
    $94,378.00
    Summary
Individuals who are non-speaking have limited or no use of natural speech due to disability. They use alternative methods to communicate (e.g., computerised devices). In this study young people who are non-speaking will be connected with older mentors who are also non-speaking and who are skilled users of Internet social media. The mentors will be role models providing encouragement and guidance online. Results may demonstrate improvement in the mentee’s communication and social participation

Speech Pathology Intervention For Young Offenders With Language Impairment

    Funder
National Health and Medical Research Council
    Funding Amount
    $107,182.00
    Summary
Male young offenders are at high risk of undetected oral language impairments. This study will assess language impaired young offenders, and evaluate the efficacy of speech pathology intervention to improve oral language skills. The study will also evaluate whether this intervention can enhance other interventions and rehabilitation, and reduce the chances of reoffending, through the development of prosocial behaviours and characteristics.

What Is The Profile, Burden And Consequences Of Cerebral Palsy (CP) Due To Congenital Cytomegalovirus (CMV) Infection?

    Funder
National Health and Medical Research Council
    Funding Amount
    $87,130.00
    Summary
Cytomegalovirus (CMV) is a virus that can be transmitted from mother to the unborn child. It is a potentially preventable cause of cerebral palsy (CP). The incidence of CP due to CMV remains unclear in Australia as screening for CMV is not routinely performed in the newborn. Our preliminary data suggests that severe CP is strongly associated with CMV. Here we will use link recorded data and test CMV in newborn screening cards to determine the burden and profile of CP due to congenital CMV in Aus .... The Association Between Disability Acquisition, Socio-economic Disadvantage And Health: A Longitudinal Analysis Of Trajectories Of Disability

    Funder
National Health and Medical Research Council
    Funding Amount
    $92,539.00
    Summary
People with disabilities are more likely to live in disadvantaged circumstances and experience poorer health and wellbeing than people without disabilities. The aim of my research is to contribute a nuanced, causally-robust longitudinal analysis of the relationships between disability, socio-economic disadvantage and health. I will model disability trajectories to characterise the diversity of disability experiences over time, and the determinants and consequences of different trajectories.

Children’s Perspectives On Their Social World: An Examination Of The Family, School And Community Factors That Influence Social Inclusion For Children Whose Parents Have Intellectual Disabilities.

    Funder
National Health and Medical Research Council
    Funding Amount
    $39,968.00
    Summary
With a world first, Australian researchers explore the lives of children whose parents have intellectual disabilities. Mothers with intellectual disabilities are at risk of social isolation and exclusion which affects their parenting. Their children are at risk of stigma and peer rejection. From a child’s perspective, new research examines the features of family, school and community life that facilitate social inclusion for a group of children at risk of social exclusion.

The Impact Of Strength Training On Calf Muscle Structure And Function In Youth And Adolescents With Cerebral Palsy

    Funder
National Health and Medical Research Council
    Funding Amount

Muscle spasticity is a primary cause of disability in individuals with cerebral palsy; however their muscles also do not develop properly: they are weak and resistant to stretch.
