Transforming city spaces: street art, urban cultures, transnational networks. The appearance of urban spaces has a dramatic impact upon the lives of the citizens who live in them. In comparing a range of local and international cities, this project investigates ways in which street art, a new cultural practice, has been transforming experiences of cities, cultural practices and communities.

This project will instead reveal modernism's highly public impact across a range of media (design, photography, advertising, architecture and art). The war at home: art describes Australia’s turbulent present. This project investigates the friction between the nation’s stories of itself, and the current massive fracturing of health, of places and of peoples. Because Australia is changing beyond measure, it is even appropriate to talk about the war at home. From World War 1 onwards, the Australian government decided that war artists be commissioned to make art about the nation at war. Our project proposes that a team of Australian artists, w ....The war at home: art describes Australia’s turbulent present. This project investigates the friction between the nation’s stories of itself, and the current massive fracturing of health, of places and of peoples. Because Australia is changing beyond measure, it is even appropriate to talk about the war at home. From World War 1 onwards, the Australian government decided that war artists be commissioned to make art about the nation at war. Our project proposes that a team of Australian artists, with a deep experience of picturing conflict, investigates the current war at home, guided by a senior Gunditjimara elder and in collaboration with an eminent biomedical scientist. War and peace: how and why contemporary conflict and its aftermath is framed by war art. Building on all three applicants' recent, unique track records as Australia's Official War Artists, we will record the aftermath of conflicts in which Australia has been involved, both as participant and as peacekeeper from Vietnam to Iraq, taking account of recent theoretical advances in the understanding of images, archives and affect.
Photography as a Crime. This project refers specifically to the goal: Strengthening Australia's Social and Economic Fabric. The place of art in this political moment has been critical - the culture of Australian indigenous people has come to international attention, and won recognition, largely through art works. This reflects in many cases a political strategy on the part of indigenous communities to use art to depict their traditional Dreamings, of which the world was ignorant.
