Australasia has the highest global extinction rates, yet despite the wide circulation of visual images of extinction little is known about how they affect people. Such women can experience significant social exclusion, marginalisation and stigma, associated with reduced help seeking, deprivation of dignity and human rights, and threats to health, well-being and quality of life.
