Understanding the Long-Term Decline in Internal Migration. The project seeks to provide insights into the changing nature of internal migration. Internal migration rates have declined continuously since the 1970s in most advanced economies. This decline in human mobility may affect the functioning of the economy and individuals’ aspirations, but remains poorly recognised and understood. This decline in human mobility may affect the functioning of the economy and individuals’ aspirations, but remains poorly recognised and understood. This project aims to establish the onset and pace of the migration decline for a sample of countries. It also aims to identify the causes of this change by identifying linkages between the drop in migration rates and the broader socio-demographic transitions of the past 30 years in Australia, Canada and the United Kingdom. The taxes of a shrinking work force may have to support a mounting number of dependent elderly. The proposed research could identify practical social interventions to facilitate higher birth rates, which would slow population aging by increasing the ratio of young people to elderly. Managing increasing challenges in motorcycle safety: strengthening research evidence for effective policy and countermeasure development. Through in-depth crash investigations and motorcyclist interviews, this project will determine risk factors for serious motorcycle crashes in an environment of increased riding, more older riders, and changing traffic conditions. Outcomes will be evidence-based strategies to improve road system management and road safety.

Housing affordability: the use and misuse of reverse mortgages by older households. Many retirees are without compulsory superannuation although daily living costs have risen substantially. As additional workers in the 'baby boom' generation retire and less tax will be paid to the government, it appears there will be increasing pressure placed on the pension system.
