Braced batter micropile group: New design theory and performance framework. This project aims to research the design and performance of innovative biomimetic braced battered micropile group footings. This project will test Surefoot, the new concrete free footing, in the laboratory, in the field, and through numerical and analytical modelling. Surefoot’s mechanisms of action are poorly understood but clearly more complex than current micropile theory; this project will research the mechanism of load transfer from micropiles to the soil and soil response.

Predicting the diagnostic performance of individuals and organisations. Predicting the diagnostic performance of individuals and organisations. This project aims to address diagnostic error in advanced technology systems, by providing a mechanism to assess and improve individual diagnosticians’ performance. Organisations that rely on their employees’ diagnostic skills rarely assess them once the operators become qualified, so there is no basis for interventions that might prevent diagnostic errors affecting thousands. This research tests a new method of assessing diagnostic skills based on how skilled operators respond to cues. This project will test how employees’ diagnostic skills change and whether this change corresponds to measures of organisational performance. This research is expected to provide organisations with a tool to pre-empt diagnostic errors that could minimise costs to the economy.

    Summary
Geomagnetic induced currents in the Australian electricity supply network. This project will develop measures to protect the Australian electricity supply network from adverse effects of enhanced solar activity. This is essential for risk assessment and long term asset management of the Australian electricity network.

Practice-based Systematized Nomenclature of Medicine (SNOMED) concept learning for drug-disease precaution early detection and refinement. The outcome of the Systematized Nomenclature of Medicine (SNOMED) concept learning system will help mitigate the impact of Adverse Drug Events hence directly contribute to the National Research Priority promoting and maintaining good health. It will tailor SNOMED knowledge to different clinical settings and provide evidence-based preventative health care. The enabling methodology from this project for building computerised cognitive learning systems will be a frontier technology to enhance smart information use in clinical decision support. It will also contribute to the development of knowledge-based systems. A network version of the developed system will assist doctors working in rural and remote areas with their clinical decision making and prescribing practice.
