Mapping the past using advanced technologies: Satellite applications for uncovering archaeological remains at Angkor. The University of Venice is a leader in remote sensing in archaeology, particularly the use of multispectral image analysis, while Australian researchers are at the forefront of research in Cambodia in a number of fields. With its 574 miniatures, the Madrid Skylitzes is the only known illustrated Greek chronicle (and the sole source for certain periods). But is it Europe's first illustrated history book or copied from a Constantinopolitan original? Isolated studies have produced starkly contradictory answers. Recent cross-disciplinary investigations by an international team have yielded better results. Giardia intestinalis is a fascinating organism, it is one of the most primitive nucleated organisms known and is responsible for ~280 million infections annually. These species are major pathogens of cotton and other important agricultural crops such as canola and potatoes. These pathogens cause serious economic losses and threaten the future of the cotton industry in Australia.
