The Australian Research Data Commons (ARDC) invites you to participate in a short survey about your
interaction with the ARDC and use of our national research infrastructure and services. The survey will take
approximately 5 minutes and is anonymous. It’s open to anyone who uses our digital research infrastructure
services including Reasearch Link Australia.
We will use the information you provide to improve the national research infrastructure and services we
deliver and to report on user satisfaction to the Australian Government’s National Collaborative Research
Infrastructure Strategy (NCRIS) program.
Please take a few minutes to provide your input. The survey closes COB Friday 29 May 2026.

This project aims to determine the benefits of career development in enhancing volunteer performance and volunteer retention, with particular attention to the needs of senior volunteers. Research concerning career development is fundamentally important in the paid workforce; little investigation has occurred in the economically important and parallel area of volunteer development. The project will build on preliminary research by the Chief Investigators by developing and testing a research instrument underpinned by career development theory. The anticipated outcomes will be (a) an improved understanding of volunteer needs within an organisation through career matching and development, (b) a generic "tool kit" for organisations wishing to develop and maintain volunteers, particularly their more experienced and senior ones and (c) a benefit to the emotional and physical well-being of the community in general and volunteers in particular.Read moreRead less
Massively parallel algorithms for Bayesian inference and decision making. This project uses the graphical processing units of desktop computers, originally developed for games and video, to enhance substantially the quantitative tools used on a daily basis by economists. It will develop procedures and software to enhance the reliability of economic predictions and policy.

This project examines recent changes in the operation of the largest family controlled conglomerates in Korea (chaebol), which possess unique features in various aspects, within a dynamic historical perspective. Case studies will be conducted concentrating on changes of business structure and strategy within Samsung, LG, Hyundai and Daewoo, with particular attention to these companies, response to the 1997 economic crisis and its implications for major trading partners such as Australia.Read moreRead less

This project will provide a synthesized theory of corporate governance and is expected to produce highest-quality research publishable in top-tier journals. This will, among others, enhance Australia's standing as a knowledge nation. This project is also expected to contribute to the discussions on how to improve corporate governance and regulation of management compensation both in Australia and abroad. Read moreRead less

It is critical that Australian family owned manufacturing businesses respond in the most advantageous way to the pressures of globalisation. Possible strategic responses include selling out to larger companies that have a stronger strategic position, competing off-shore, or take a niche position in the value chain. This research will use a series of case studies to determine the contingent factors that best explain strategic response within the ownership and management structure of the family business, and track the impact of specific strategic choices. From this may flow some general principles of appropriate strategic responses given a range of circumstances.Read moreRead less

Service industries dominate Australia's economy. When service fails, conflicts frequently ensue, leaving customers and employees feeling angry and stressed. Consequent social and economic costs are enormous. This project addresses the research priority of promoting and maintaining good health by identifying ways in which customers and employees can resolve service problems such that participants' psychosocial needs are met and outcomes for both parties are optimised. Findings will strengthen Australia's social and economic fabric by providing strategies to increase customer satisfaction and reduce worker stress. Service firms will benefit from a more loyal customer-base, and reduced employee absenteeism, turnover and compensation claims. Read moreRead less

The project also investigates the nature of employee proactivity (e.g. how it differs from other behaviors), and its consequences for employee performance, innovation, and mental health. The project is significant because it focuses on how to promote behaviors that have often been neglected in research.Read moreRead less

Second, by examining ....Aged care in crisis? The effects of work organisation on nurse, resident and organisational outcomes. Given the rapidly ageing Australian population and critical nurse retention issues in aged care, this program of research will have significant national benefit. First, assessing the interactive effects of work stressors and high performance work practices on employee strain and turnover will be particularly important in terms of developing strategies for employee retention. Second, by examining across time the links between work stressors and high performance work practices on one hand and resident outcomes on the other, the research will have important implications for ensuring older people receive quality care and live with dignity in Aged care.
