2026 ARDC Annual Survey is now open!

The Australian Research Data Commons (ARDC) invites you to participate in a short survey about your interaction with the ARDC and use of our national research infrastructure and services. The survey will take approximately 5 minutes and is anonymous. It’s open to anyone who uses our digital research infrastructure services including Reasearch Link Australia.

We will use the information you provide to improve the national research infrastructure and services we deliver and to report on user satisfaction to the Australian Government’s National Collaborative Research Infrastructure Strategy (NCRIS) program.

Please take a few minutes to provide your input. The survey closes COB Friday 29 May 2026.

Complete the 5 min survey now by clicking on the link below.

Human Amnion Cells As A Therapy For Preterm Lung Disease

    Funder
National Health and Medical Research Council
    Funding Amount
    $104,664.00
    Summary
Premature babies often have serious breathing difficulties due to immature lungs, and these can remain life long. Amnion cells, which are from the membrane that surrounds the baby and placenta in the womb, behave like stem cells and can develop into lung cells. Using an animal model, we will give these cells to damaged premature lungs, and see if they can repair the lung tissue. We are hopeful this will improve the survival of premature babies and help prevent long term lung disease.

Currently, there is little evidence to guide the treatment of pleural disease, with common mismanagement and frequent adverse events. This project will develop image analysis tools, a clinical pathway and training to assist and guide clinicians in managing pleural disease, improving the diagnostic yield of pleural procedures, while reducing complication rates. It will offer a novel contribution to this young but blossoming field of respiratory medicine, ultimately leading to improved care for people with pleural disease.

The Western Australia Malignant Pleural Effusions Management Study- What Factors Can Guide Management And Do Indwelling Pleural Catheters Represent The Best Treatment Option?

    Funder
National Health and Medical Research Council
    Funding Amount
    $74,395.00
    Summary
This randomised clinical trial will determine whether indwelling tunnelled pleural catheters are the best treatment strategy for patients with malignant pleural effusions. It will also look for ways in which the speed of fluid recurrence can be predicted. It will save public money by finding the most cost effective treatment strategies.

Bacteriology Of Bronchiectasis In Australian Indigenous Children

    Funder
National Health and Medical Research Council
    Funding Amount
    $91,209.00
    Summary
Many Indigenous children in the Northern Territory suffer from a chronic lung condition called bronchiectasis. This disease causes a lot of illness and can lead to early death in adulthood. Little is known about how the disease starts and how it can be prevented, but many children are being treated with the antibiotic azithromycin. My project aims to find out which bacteria are associated with bronchiectasis, how azithromycin affects the bacteria, and whether it leads to antibiotic resistance.

Molecular Characterisation Of Adiponectin Receptors: Implications For Adiponectin Action And Resistance

    Funder
National Health and Medical Research Council
    Funding Amount
    $95,137.00
    Summary
Adiponectin is a hormone secreted by fat cells with anti-inflammatory, anti-atherogenic and insulin sensitising properties. Adiponectin levels and actions are compromised in obesity and type 2 diabetes. Adponectin mediates its effects via two receptors but the mechanisms are poorly understood. This proposal aims to define the underlying mechanisms with the ultimate goal of identifying novel therapeutic strategies to improve adiponectin's actions.
