A Multi-component Education Program For Patients With Early Stage Chronic Kidney Disease

Summary
Patients diagnosed with early stage chronic kidney disease will be invited to take part in focus group discussions to identify their educational needs. The discussions will be recorded and transcribed to identify key topic areas. These will be used to guide the development of educational resources, which will include an informational booklet, DVD and an information session. Patients will also be involved in the evaluation of the material to ensure all relevant topics have been addressed.

Summary
Skeletal muscle accounts for 50% of total body mass with critical roles in body movement and blood glucose regulation. Exercise is a potent stimulus for maintaining/ increasing muscle mass, an effect that is augmented when combined with protein ingestion. The aims of this proposal are to better understand this exercise-nutrient interaction to optimize the prescription of programs and recovery strategies as a countermeasure for muscle degeneration with aging and disease.
