Bacterial polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbon transport and degradation. This project aims to investigate the molecular processes underpinning the degradation of polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons (PAHs) by bacteria. PAHs are persistent environmental contaminants linked to several human diseases, including cancer. Bacteria capable of degrading PAHs could be used to naturally and effectively reduce environmental PAH loads to below safe levels. The project will apply techniques in functional genomics and biochemistry to help define the ways that PAHs are taken up from the environment by bacteria, their fate within bacterial cells, and the ways that bacteria overcome the inherent toxicity of PAHs. The knowledge generated is expected to enhance our capacity to rationally deploy bacteria for PAH degradation.Read moreRead less
Whole-genome multivariate reaction norm model for complex traits. This project aims to develop a multivariate whole-genome genotype-covariate correlation and interaction model that can be applied to a wide range of existing genome-wide association study (GWAS) datasets. Genotype-covariate correlation and interaction (GCCI) are fundamental in biology but there is no standard approach to disentangle interaction from correlation in the whole-genome analyses. This project will address the key featur ....Whole-genome multivariate reaction norm model for complex traits. This project will address the key feature in biology, which relates to dissecting the complex mechanism of association and interaction. The proposed statistical model implemented in a context of a novel design based on multiple GWAS data sets is a paradigm shifting-tool with applications to multiple industries.Read moreRead less

The ARC Training Centre for Environmental and Agricultural Solutions to Antimicrobial Resistance aims to develop industry-led solutions and train a new generation of researchers to combat the impact of antimicrobial resistance (AMR) on agribusiness and the environment.
AMR is a global health and economic threat that epitomises the need for a ‘One Health’ collaborative approach encompassing the interconnection between people, animals, plants, and their shared environment.
Expected outcomes of this collaborative program include a cohort of researchers trained in industry-relevant techniques, furnishing solutions to partner-defined AMR challenges, and providing significant benefits by positioning Australia as a global leader in reducing AMR.Read moreRead less
