National Health and Medical Research Council
Funding Amount
$387,489.00
Summary
Health behaviours are very important in the early detection of cancer, and they often determine whether a cancer patient will have a good quality of life after cancer treatment. The proposed research program aims to increase our understanding of how to improve health behaviours in order to be able to diagnose cancer as early as possible, and to develop interventions that will help patients to have the best possible care after cancer treatment.

Summary
My program aims to improve mental health and quality of life in families affected by paediatric cancer. The program covers three themes: 1) Trial of novel behavioural medicine interventions to prevent poor mental and physical health outcomes; 2) Discovery of the psychosocial impact of genetic technologies for young people affected by cancer; and 3) Evaluation of the impact of paediatric cancer on under-researched, but critical, facets of family life. Developing Better Models Of Outcome For Psychotic Disorders
Funder
National Health and Medical Research Council
Funding Amount
$458,695.00
Summary
Research on psychosis has been focused on developing treatments for hallucinations and delusions. However, ‘outcome’ is multifaceted and must embrace functioning, and quality of life. Reducing The Burden Of Disease And Inequity Related To Indigenous Australians With Cancer
Funder
National Health and Medical Research Council
Funding Amount
$475,946.00
Summary
Indigenous Australians have higher incidence of cancers, higher cancer mortality rates and poorer survival compared to other Australians. My proposed program of research aims to improve patient outcomes and survival of Indigenous people with cancer. The proposed work will examine cancer care at the primary and hospital setting, identify deficiencies, and suggest mechanisms for improvement (an intervention will be tested).
