The effective teaching of Aboriginal Studies in primary schools is an important tool for achieving Reconciliation, and mutual respect and understanding between Aboriginal and non-Aboriginal Australians. This cannot be achieved without effective teacher education. This study aims to: identify successful features of core Aboriginal Studies teacher education courses that can be emulated by teacher education institutions; and to critically analyse the nature, success and impact of core Aboriginal Studies primary teacher education courses upon primary preservice teachers? commitment and ability to teach Aboriginal Studies in schools.
