The Australian Research Data Commons (ARDC) invites you to participate in a short survey about your
interaction with the ARDC and use of our national research infrastructure and services. The survey will take
approximately 5 minutes and is anonymous. It’s open to anyone who uses our digital research infrastructure
services including Reasearch Link Australia.
We will use the information you provide to improve the national research infrastructure and services we
deliver and to report on user satisfaction to the Australian Government’s National Collaborative Research
Infrastructure Strategy (NCRIS) program.
Please take a few minutes to provide your input. The survey closes COB Friday 29 May 2026.

Influenza is a deadly issue for the elderly, their carers and the community. It reduces quality of life and productivity through hospitalisation and work absenteeism. By preventing influenza using an antiviral drug for residents and staff in aged care facilities there should be considerable economic and social benefits. This controlled scientific experiment will determine how much disease and death can be averted and provide real data that is critical to planning for an influenza pandemic. It will direct where emphasis should be placed between the control measures of infection control (eg hand-washing, masks), vaccination and use of antiviral drugs. Annual outbreaks will be curtailed.Read moreRead less
Chemical and Biochemical Characterisation of Novel Iron Chelators with Therapeutic Potential. Iron is essential for life, but iron-overload is a potentially fatal condition. There is no natural mechanism to excrete iron in humans, so patients suffering from iron-overload disorders are treated with the chelator Desferal to enable iron excretion typically from an early age. Desferal is orally ineffective and must be given by subcutaneous infusion (12-24h, 5-6 days/week) resulting in poor patient c ....Chemical and Biochemical Characterisation of Novel Iron Chelators with Therapeutic Potential. Desferal is orally ineffective and must be given by subcutaneous infusion (12-24h, 5-6 days/week) resulting in poor patient compliance. We will conduct critical chemical and biological experiments with a new series of potentially orally active iron chelators identified in our lab. The results from this project will be vital for the development of these compounds as pharmaceuticals.Read moreRead less

In this project an electroless silver coating process will be developed, with bath chemistry and coating conditions optimised for an ideal dissolution rate. This project will lead to the development of improved medical devices that will have significant social and economic benefits for Australia.Read moreRead less
Development of new interventions and treatment for schistosomiasis morbidity control. Australia has played a lead role in Parasitology research. It is vital to remain at the forefront in combating the human and livestock diseases that parasites cause. Vaccine assessment and the large scale analysis of patient tissues are vital to the biotechnology, agriculture and pharmaceutical industries with outcomes leading to innovative strategies for control. Politically there is value as it is altruistic ....Development of new interventions and treatment for schistosomiasis morbidity control. Politically there is value as it is altruistic to develop new tools, technologies and treatments for the Asia/Pacific region. Economically, Australia will have first pass at developing the intellectual property arising. As well, the therapies would be developed locally to the benefit of Australia's human therapeutics industry and bio-reagent manufacturers.Read moreRead less
NOVEL THERAPEUTICS FOR AUTOIMMUNE DISEASE USING MOUSE SCREENING MODELS. The project aims to use experimental models of human autoimmune disease in the mouse for the testing of developmental isoflavonoid compounds produced by the Industry Partner, for protective effects against autoimmunity. The murine models proposed will duplicate human autoimmune cardiomyopathy, systemic lupus erythematosus and multiple sclerosis, encompassing both organ-specific and systemic autoimmune diseases. The murine models proposed will duplicate human autoimmune cardiomyopathy, systemic lupus erythematosus and multiple sclerosis, encompassing both organ-specific and systemic autoimmune diseases. Isoflavonoid protection is anticipated from the antioxidant, anti-inflammatory and oestrogenic characteristics of these compounds/Read moreRead less
Coordinating energy metabolism to enhance exercise capacity. Diet and exercise contribute to health and ageing productively whereas high caloric diets and sedentary life styles are deleterious. The enzyme AMPK regulates energy metabolism in response to diet and exercise and by studying it we expect to learn why diet and exercise are beneficial at the molecular level. This may allow the development of nutritional, exercise and drug strategies to enhance exercise capacity and well being during ageing as well as suppress age onset diseases that include obesity diabetes cardiovascular disease hypertension and neurodegeneration.Read moreRead less
Systems therapeutics for metabolism: AMPK isoform specific drugs. Living cells have to maintain a steady balance between energy production and consumption in order to function properly. This project will provide a major advancement in our understanding of the regulation of AMPK at the molecular level, and lay the foundations for the development of more effective drugs to treat energy balance disorders such as obesity and Type 2 diabetes. Furthermore, this proposal will contribute to enriching Australia's international profile and competitiveness in this important area of research.Read moreRead less
Determining the regulation of vitamin D metabolism. The proposed project will lead to a better understanding of factors that influence the biological function of vitamin D. This will impact in several areas of human health and will provide new avenues for the development of preventative approaches and treatment of cancer. This project is based on the use of 'Frontier Technologies' that will be applied to elucidate basic biological questions.
