2026 ARDC Annual Survey is now open!

The Australian Research Data Commons (ARDC) invites you to participate in a short survey about your interaction with the ARDC and use of our national research infrastructure and services. The survey will take approximately 5 minutes and is anonymous. It’s open to anyone who uses our digital research infrastructure services including Reasearch Link Australia.

We will use the information you provide to improve the national research infrastructure and services we deliver and to report on user satisfaction to the Australian Government’s National Collaborative Research Infrastructure Strategy (NCRIS) program.

Please take a few minutes to provide your input. The survey closes COB Friday 29 May 2026.

Assessment And Prediction Of Blood Flow Dynamics In Congenital Aortic Abnormalities Using Image-based Computer Modelling And Wave Intensity Analysis

    Funder
National Health and Medical Research Council
    Funding Amount
    $390,925.00
    Summary
Severe aortic abnormality is a serious problem in many infants with congenital heart disease, but it is often unclear what type of treatment will optimise blood flow and minimise the risk of later complications. This study aims to harness recent developments in blood flow modelling, magnetic resonance imaging and advanced blood flow analysis techniques to determine the factors that lead to complications in these children, thereby providing crucial information for improving treatment strategies.

Defining An Effective Cardiovascular Risk Stratification System For Children

    Funder
National Health and Medical Research Council
    Funding Amount
    $295,450.00
    Summary
This project combines information from four large studies that have been carried out in Australia, the United States, and Finland that have collected measures on the same participants during childhood and again during adulthood, to determine an effective means of identifying children at risk of developing premature cardiovascular disease.

The Role Of Emerging Gastrointestinal Viruses In The First Two Years Of Life: A Birth Cohort Study

    Funder
National Health and Medical Research Council
    Funding Amount
    $392,534.00
    Summary
Gastro illnesses are common and potentially serious early in life. We are aiming to find out more about these illnesses by following ~140 children from birth to their second birthday, with parents collecting a dirty nappy swab every week. Our laboratory will test these samples for a wide range of known and new gastro viruses, and we will also be looking for, as yet, undiscovered viruses. This information will allow us to document the burden of these illnesses in young children and their families .... Gastro illnesses are common and potentially serious early in life. Structural And Functional Imaging In Paediatric Lung Disease

    Funder
National Health and Medical Research Council
    Funding Amount
    $318,768.00
    Summary
Lung imaging is an important part of the clinical care of young patients with respiratory disease. However, the most used method at the moment is computed tomography (CT), which exposes the patient to radiation. One potential radiation-free alternative to CT is lung magnetic resonance imaging (MRI). This project will investigate how well lung MRI performs clinically in two important childhood diseases: cystic fibrosis, and preterm birth.

Novel Therapies And Diagnostic Tools In Neurogenetic Disorders

    Funder
National Health and Medical Research Council
    Funding Amount
    $190,049.00
    Summary
Friedreich ataxia, a life-shortening neurologic condition, has no proven treatment. This study will assess a medication called resveratrol in 60 individuals in centres in four Australian states. The second study will explore the effectiveness of an emerging imaging technique, high-resolution nerve ultrasound, in the diagnosis and monitoring of conditions that affect the nerves in childhood.

Increasing Access To Early Prevention Of Internalising Problems: An Internet-based Parenting Program For Young Children

    Funder
National Health and Medical Research Council
    Funding Amount
    $311,860.00
    Summary
The proposed research aims to help prevent the development of anxiety disorders in young children. An internet version of an existing face-to-face parent training program will be developed and tested in a clinical trial. The program will target young children at risk of anxiety disorders and will teach parents skills in how to help their child cope with new situations. The internet-based program will be easily accessible to parents and can be widely disseminated in Australian communities.

Optimising EHealth Systems To Improve Medication Safety And Patient Outcomes

    Funder
National Health and Medical Research Council
    Funding Amount
    $318,768.00
    Summary
Electronic medication management systems are being implemented across the Australian health system. These systems have the potential to improve patient outcomes, but also have risks. This research will examine these benefits and risks in two vulnerable populations: children and the elderly. Novel research methods will be used to evaluate high risk medicine use and associated errors; and design interventions to improve their safety in two paediatric hospitals and 75 aged care facilities.

Mucous In Heterogeneous And Progressive Early Cystic Fibrosis Lung Disease

    Funder
National Health and Medical Research Council
    Funding Amount
    $347,948.00
    Summary
Cystic fibrosis (CF) is the most common genetically acquired, life-shortening chronic illness affecting young Australians today. Individuals with CF have a reduced ability to clear mucous from the airways resulting in respiratory infections and inflammation. This project will quantify the biochemical and biophysical properties of mucous in young children with CF to generate novel insights into the pathogenesis of early disease, biomarkers of disease progression and therapeutic targets.
