Summary
Chronic hepatitis B (CHB) is a global public health issue. Best practice guidelines indicate that early diagnosis and treatment can reduce mortality, however, guidelines are not being followed because uptake of management and treatment is low. This project aims to address the gap between optimal and current CHB management through implementation of a nursing service, which will build capacity, and target the need for improved management for this vulnerable group of patients.
Educating for health service reform: clinical learning, governance, and capability. The nurse practitioner is a rapidly growing, advanced practice nursing role with excellent client acceptability. This project will develop specialty competencies and a clinical learning and teaching framework that will be relevant for both nurses and other health professionals.
A prospective evaluation of the impact of the nurse practitioner role on emergency department service and outcomes. The local hospital emergency department (ED) is a prominent and highly utilised service in Australian communities but demand on EDs is increasing, resulting in significant service delays. This project will study the composition of ED clinical teams around Australia and their impact on improving the timeliness and quality of emergency clinical care.
Fit for the future: safeguarding the health and wellbeing of the Australian nursing workforce to sustain future healthcare service delivery. Nursing shortages, occupational pressures, ageing and associated chronic ill health of the Australian nursing workforce threaten the ability of health services to meet Australia's health needs. Summary
Modern chemotherapy treatments can result in damage to the peripheral nerves, resulting in a condition called peripheral neuropathy. This condition is characterised by a range of sensory and functional changes that can cause pain and reduced ability to perform daily activities. This project will test various non-pharmacological pain management measures to determine if they are effective in improving the quality of life of patients who experience this problem.
Driving health care efficiencies and patient care outcomes by improving communication in acute to primary transitions of care. Communication problems are a major contributor to poor outcomes for patients transferring from acute to primary care, accounting for 41 per cent of preventable hospital readmissions.
