The Australian Research Data Commons (ARDC) invites you to participate in a short survey about your
interaction with the ARDC and use of our national research infrastructure and services. The survey will take
approximately 5 minutes and is anonymous. It’s open to anyone who uses our digital research infrastructure
services including Reasearch Link Australia.
We will use the information you provide to improve the national research infrastructure and services we
deliver and to report on user satisfaction to the Australian Government’s National Collaborative Research
Infrastructure Strategy (NCRIS) program.
Please take a few minutes to provide your input. The survey closes COB Friday 29 May 2026.

Exploring new roles for phosphorus radicals in health, environment, and technology. Several practical outcomes will arise from this project. Information on processes that contribute to genetic disease and cancer will be derived through studies of the role of phosphorus radicals in DNA damage. Processes that lead to the degradation of natural and synthetic materials in the environment will be explored. Processes that lead to the degradation of natural and synthetic materials in the environment will be explored. Clean reactions will be developed for the fabrication of advanced materials (e.g. pharmaceuticals). These innovations will expand Australia's international profile in a growing research area. The project will also address three of Australia's National Research Priorities, contribute to the training of researchers in Free Radical Chemistry, and initiate research collaborations with institutions in France and the USA.Read moreRead less

Negative ion mass spectrometry: fundamentals and applied applications. 1. We seek to establish negative ion mass spectrometry as a major technological tool for the sequencing of peptides and proteins. In this context, we will investigate the structures and modes of action of peptide complexes which may be of importance for the treatment and control of heart disease and stroke.
2. Negative ions of known structure will be converted (in the mass spectrometer) into transient (and reactive) molecule ....Negative ion mass spectrometry: fundamentals and applied applications. 1. 2. Negative ions of known structure will be converted (in the mass spectrometer) into transient (and reactive) molecules which are present in interstellar ice and dust clouds. The structures and chemistry of such molecules are of importance in understanding the origins of life on this planet.Read moreRead less
The mechanism of water splitting in photosynthesis. Sunlight reaching the earth is used by the vast body of plants and algae living in surface waters and on the land to drive photosynthesis. One of the most fundamental contributions that photosynthesis provides to the Biosphere is the gaseous oxygen produced by its water-splitting chemistry - ~300 gigatons of O2 are released into the atmosphere per year. However, the mechanism behind water-splitting is not precisely known. We will use a range of unique experimental approaches to determine the molecular mechanism of the photosynthetic water-splitting chemistry. The understanding of this reaction will provide the molecular blueprint for the development of efficient biocatalysts to generate H2 and O2 from water.Read moreRead less
The formation of negative ions and neutrals in the gas phase. Structure, reactivity and mechanism. Mass spectrometry is an analytical technique used to provide information concerning the structure of a chemical compound: it is particularly useful when dealing with small amounts of biologically important molecules. It is also a facility in which charged species can be converted into transient neutrals. This project will (i) produce information about negative ion fragmentations in order to extend the applicability of analytical negative-ion mass spectrometry, (ii) form neutral molecules and related species which are found in stellar dust clouds and investigate their chemistry, and (iii) train graduates in ion chemistry to the highest international standards.Read moreRead less
Cumulenes and Heterocumulenes - Stellar Molecules and New Materials. This project involves the formation and characterisation of transient neutrals (formed in the mass spectrometer by neutralisation of charged precursor ions) which are either found in stellar dust clouds, or related molecules which may be either potential stellar molecules or have importance in the development of new materials. This work may lead to a better understanding of how biomolecules are formed in interstellar environs. ....Cumulenes and Heterocumulenes - Stellar Molecules and New Materials. This work may lead to a better understanding of how biomolecules are formed in interstellar environs. The Adelaide and Berlin groups are internationally known, already with ongoing collaboration. This application seeks to extend the scope of this world-class research, and to train the premier graduate students in astrochemistry.Read moreRead less
Novel Fermion Actions for Lattice Gauge Theory. The Standard Model of the universe is founded on quantum field theories in which gauge bosons mediate the forces between fermions, the constituents of matter. For example, the gluon of Quantum Chromodynamics (QCD) mediates the strong interactions between quarks as they compose protons, and neutrons. The Standard Model of the universe is founded on quantum field theories in which gauge bosons mediate the forces between fermions, the constituents of matter. For example, the gluon of Quantum Chromodynamics (QCD) mediates the strong interactions between quarks as they compose protons, and neutrons. The only way to reveal the long-distance properties of this fundamental gauge theory from first principles is to numerically simulate the theory on a space-time lattice. Simulating fermions on a lattice has proved very challenging. This project will explore novel and innovative improved fermion algorithms for the general problem of gauge theories on the lattice.Read moreRead less

Australian groups have contributed to several such experiments, studying cosmic rays, neutrinos, and broken symmetries, as well as developing ATLAS, a vast experiment dedicated to understanding the origin of mass. This project seeks to use ATLAS for a new purpose: searching for exotic mesons. Our existing commitment to ATLAS provides an opportunity to develop this as a new avenue of fundamental research in this country.Read moreRead less

Dark matter research is fundamental breakthrough science, thus its National and Community benefits can only be indirect. This, nevertheless, does not reduce the importance of these benefits. The proposed program strengthens Australian fundamental science by extending it in a new direction, and considerably boosts the quality of theoretical dark matter research in Australia. Since a large part of the proposed work is expected to be performed in international collaboration, positive results will increase the Australian presence on the international astro-particle physics scene. Successful students involved in this project are also expected to assume leading roles in international dark matter research.Read moreRead less
