Summary
This CRE brings together leading population health researchers to investigate the health effects of mobile phones and magnetic resonance imaging. It will address high priority research questions identified by the WHO. It will generate new knowledge that leads to improved health outcomes through a 5 year research program. The outcomes will be translated into health policy and practice through international and national organisations. The CRE will train PhDs and postdoctoral research fellows.
Non-invasive Retinal Vein Pulsation Pressure Measurement: A New Assessment Of Glaucoma Treatment.

Summary
Glaucoma is the second most common cause of blindness. It is a slowly degenerating disease and the level of treatment required is difficult to predict. At present there is no way of knowing whether the eye is receiving inadequate treatment. We have shown that retinal vein pulsation pressure measurements are an indicator of the likelihood of glaucoma progression. Epilepsy is a leading cause of chronic morbidity in Australia. A fundamental problem in clinical practice is the accurate identification of the 'hotspot' zone in the brain that is generating epileptic discharges. These discharges can be detected non-invasively (over the scalp) and analysed with electro-encephalographic and magneto-encephalographic source localisation (EMSL) techniques. Summary
This project will investigate use of an imaging instrument to identify renal cancers that are potentially harmless from aggressive renal cancers. Currently, such differentiation requires biopsies, and the outcome is often unnecessary surgical removal of whole or part of the diseased kidney. Long term, this project will provide knowledge to determine aggressiveness of a renal cancer non-invasively, without having to perform an operation. The approach was previously successful for breast cancer.
