Information-theoretic secure communications via caching. This project aims to address the cybersecurity problem of securing telecommunication networks to prevent data leakage. Current widely-adopted data-encryption approaches to secure communications will be broken with large-scale quantum computers, and existing information-theoretic approaches rely on the channel quality of the network. This project aims to address the cybersecurity problem of securing telecommunication networks to prevent data leakage. Current widely-adopted data-encryption approaches to secure communications will be broken with large-scale quantum computers, and existing information-theoretic approaches rely on the channel quality of the network. To circumvent these risks, this project proposes a new information security approach using information cached at devices to camouflage data. The project will future-proof secure communication systems against large-scale quantum computers, which threaten current encryption approaches. This should ensure that data transmitted over communication networks can never be revealed to interceptors or hackers, even in public WiFi.Read moreRead less

Summary
Extremely-high-speed and reliable coding for next generation communications. This project aims to develop fundamental coding theories and innovative coded-modulation techniques for the next generation backbone communication systems. The development of these techniques is expected to lead to dramatic increases of spectrum efficiency, data rate and reliability of communication systems. The techniques will enable extremely high speed and extremely reliable front-haul/back-haul communications, which ....Extremely-high-speed and reliable coding for next generation communications. This project aims to develop fundamental coding theories and innovative coded-modulation techniques for the next generation backbone communication systems. The development of these techniques is expected to lead to dramatic increases of spectrum efficiency, data rate and reliability of communication systems. The techniques will enable extremely high speed and extremely reliable front-haul/back-haul communications, which constitute the major building blocks of critical information and communications technology infrastructures for future digital society. This project is expected to support the sustainable development of the emerging digital society and new data-intensive applications, which are crucial for the long term economic growth for the Australian community.Read moreRead less

This project aims to develop the concept and demonstrate the practicality of a new fibre optic communication technology that allows data transmission rates beyond currently accepted fundamental limits. This project aims to design and demonstrate the feasibility and practicality of utilising nonlinear modes of data transmission. This would assist in the management of fibre impairments that fundamentally limit further increase in data rate causing the capacity crunch problem. This is expected to present Australia with leading edge technology to compete in the area of high-speed, high-capacity communication, which is the backbone of our economy, heath, education, social participation, and security.Read moreRead less
Optimising throughput and Delay in network coded systems. This project addresses one main disadvantage of network coding: decoding delay. By solving this issue, we will unlock the true potential of network coding: delivery of high data rates in wireless and wireline networks. This will make network coding an attractive choice for live video streaming and mission-critical delay-sensitive applications.
Video plasticity: Scalable video coding with inherently consistent motion. This project aims to improve how video coders represent motion, leading to more efficient motion descriptions and fewer distinct motion fields. The project will develop motion inference algorithms that ensure consistent motion descriptions throughout a group of pictures, allowing seamless integration of scalable video coding, motion compensated temporal filtering and motion compensated frame interpolation operations. The project is expected to support an efficient and interactive video browsing experience, largely decoupled from original frame rate and resolution; and deliver practical solutions that can be efficiently implemented on consumer devices.Read moreRead less
