Spatially Integrated Social Science Research in Australia. Rapid change across society has resulted in shifts to the scope of social science research including the emergence of space and place as an important concept. Across research fields the result has been that a range of innovative and unique techniques, methodologies and theories that are space based are now being developed. While research is progressing rapidly, it is undertaken in parallel by researchers who can not always collaborate. ....Spatially Integrated Social Science Research in Australia. Strengthening urban slum upgrading and urban governance in cities in Southeast Asia. 1. This project examines the constested meanings of race for Indigenous people in Australia through an analysis of the discourses they deploy in articulating their experiences. By considering their lives as contexts for the reproduction of race the research will offer new knowledge about the ways in which Indigenous people racialise themselves and others. The Initiative will survey the volume, range, impact, and international status of Asian area research in Australia, identify themes with high potential for achieving significant outcomes through transnational research and research-training, and develop a strategy for maximizing national research capacity in targeted areas through a national inter-disciplinary network for Asia-area research - Network Asia.
Outcomes include a published report on the state of the field and a strategic plan for a viable and sustainable research network.

The corpus is generically ambiguous, since it first appeared as "articles" in magazines and was later collected in volumes, thus acquiring a more "literary" status as "essays". A society divided: a multilevel approach for understanding socio-economic opportunity and vulnerability. Despite a strong economy since the early 1990s uneven socioeconomic outcomes remain characteristic of Australian society. The costs to individuals, communities and society itself of these uneven outcomes are significant. Crucially policy needs understand the multi-dimensional nature of the drivers of these uneven outcomes so as to ameliorate the negative cost.
