The Australian Research Data Commons (ARDC) invites you to participate in a short survey about your
interaction with the ARDC and use of our national research infrastructure and services. The survey will take
approximately 5 minutes and is anonymous. It’s open to anyone who uses our digital research infrastructure
services including Reasearch Link Australia.
We will use the information you provide to improve the national research infrastructure and services we
deliver and to report on user satisfaction to the Australian Government’s National Collaborative Research
Infrastructure Strategy (NCRIS) program.
Please take a few minutes to provide your input. The survey closes COB Friday 29 May 2026.

The importance of innovation, either in the form of intellectual property or know-how, to the Australian economy cannot be over-stated. Unlike statutory intellectual property schemes, worker-created know-how is both 'incentivised' and controlled through the contractual provisions of the worker-employer relationship. This project, through its empirical focus, will explore if (and how) the law, as it relates to know-how, promotes innovation in the workplace. Through the development of guidelines for best practice and reform proposals to fill gaps in the law, this research will increase the potential for innovation in all worker-employer relationships which will, in turn, maximise this country's creative and technological capability. International exchanges of knowledge, temporary skilled labour movements, and Australia's economic growth. It is known that skilled labour is a significant source of economic growth as it creates new knowledge and innovation, and that Australia, like other countries, uses policies to attract skilled migrants. It is less known however that thousands of skilled workers also migrate temporarily, often to exchange knowledge. It is known that skilled labour is a significant source of economic growth as it creates new knowledge and innovation, and that Australia, like other countries, uses policies to attract skilled migrants. It is less known however that thousands of skilled workers also migrate temporarily, often to exchange knowledge. Whilst the effect of permanent migration is widely researched, this project will examine the economic impact of short-term labour movements. Using data from DIMIA and surveying temporary migrants, this project will analyse the consequences of temporary labour movements on Australia's innovation ability, productivity and economic growth, contributing to develop migration policy.Read moreRead less

With the advent of the Internet, Virtual Enterprises (VEs) are breaking down geographical barriers of nations, enabling the Business Process Outsourcing (BPO) of corporate business activities. The primary objective of this project is to leverage international expertise in Australia and Japan to develop a VE framework for effective BPO by studying the effect of evolving virtual team coordination techniques under alternative VE orderings. An organising framework for VEs will provide the ideal structure for high technology Australian firms to compete globally by drawing on entrepreneurial and knowledge capital of technologically advanced nations, whilst sustaining and maximising their own domestic array of skills and capabilities through an efficient vertical international division of labour.Read moreRead less
Understanding the Behaviour and Impact of Bond Markets. An improved understanding of the way in which the timing of transactions on financial markets interact enables better choices to be made in terms of designing market systems and conventions. The US Treasury market is arguably the most important market in the world, and uses an expandable limit order book. Better understanding of this market will help in choices about new system design, and in how news transmitted through this market may impact on other markets. In particular this project will consider the role of the microstructure of the US Treasury market in the 2007-2008 financial crisis.Read moreRead less
The Determinants of Australia's Productivity Performance. Productivity growth is the key to increasing prosperity for all Australians. The scholar will survey the theoretical and empirical literature pertinent to explaining trends and cycles in the productivity of the Australian economy over the past thirty years. The scholar will then select specific areas for focused research which will lead to academic papers and the submission of a PhD thesis.

Rationality and the willingness to cooperate is an important aspect of human decision making. Research shows that certain decisions not only cause stress but are also affected by it. Using modern mobile heart rate monitors, we are able to measure causes and consequences of stress in a controlled and natural environment. This research will help to provide better workplace environments by helping to design better organisations, decreasing the probability of workplace accidents, and advising employees how to better use their talents. This research also helps put Australia on the forefront of modern economic research that aims to open the ultimate "black box" of human decision making.Read moreRead less

High profile corporate failures attributable to incorrect hedging strategies have recently drawn attention to corporate financial risk management, although its important role in financial management is far more ubiquitous and pervasive. The project will shed light on the internal processes of corporate risk management which previous studies have not addressed. It will produce a 'stock-take' of current practices enabling assessment against theoretical models and identification of current 'best practice'. Against this backdrop, Australian firms will be able to assess the merits of their current policies and practices, and assist corporate outsiders (regulators, analysts, researchers) in better understanding corporate risk management. The analysis performed in this project will provide some new insights into the role of financial policies in bolstering productivity growth. This issue deserves more attention from the policy circle given that a better understanding of the mechanisms by which finance affects growth performance allows policy makers to evaluate the costs and benefits associated with liberalising and deepening the financial systems, thus enabling the formulation of effective financial policies. This understanding is critical to achieve the Australian policy makers' objective of promoting financial stability and strengthening growth.Read moreRead less

National/community benefits include a clearer understanding of the relation between patents and industrial innovation, measuring the effects of patents on technical change, economic growth and job creation, and analysing their fluctuations over time. The project analyses the variability in technological innovations, measures the impact of innovations on total output and key factors of production, namely labour, capital, energy and materials, and emphasizes the usefulness of the results. Expected outcomes include changing current ideas regarding output generation, understanding broad issues underlying patents and their variability, advancing multi-disciplinary knowledge, using information intelligently and promoting a culture of innovation.Read moreRead less
Understanding market mechanisms to achieve greater efficiency in the Australian residential real-estate market. This project will provide information to policy-makers, vendors and purchasers, enabling the evolution of an optimal real-estate market, with significant benefits for individuals and the national economy. These benefits will be both short-term (current wealth) and long-term (retirement saving). It will promote Australia as the leader in constructing optimal, efficient real-estate markets, which can be applied to similar real-estate markets around the world. Finally, training a research student will develop research infrastructure in Australia, and be a contribution to producing a generation of specialists who will add to Australia's international standing in financial research and its ability to manage an increasingly complex economy.Read moreRead less
