Summary
Media and transient migrants in Australia and Singapore: mapping identities and networks. This project is a journey of discovery into the migration experience of transient migrants (international students and skilled professionals) in Australia and Singapore through their use and engagement with the media (screen and digital). This project will help us understand permanent migration patterns in Australia.
Valuing Web Series: Economic, Industrial, Cultural and Social Value. This project investigates the value of web series as a form of online screen entertainment characterised by original and diverse content produced by emerging creatives. It will deploy the theoretical frame of ‘total value’ to assess the role and viability of web series: value accrued as career development opportunities for digital content makers; value accrued by the audiences who consume web series; and the value accrued by t ....Valuing Web Series: Economic, Industrial, Cultural and Social Value. A hand up: Disrupting the communication of intergenerational welfare dependency. Some families rely permanently on welfare support and communicate this dependency to the next generation. Children growing up in these families find it difficult to break out of poverty. With the help of twelve families and members of the St Vincent de Paul Society (Western Australia), this project aims to create ethnographies which illuminate turning points and opportunities for change. The technologies used by platforms are rapidly advancing, and include ‘machine vision’ systems that automatically classify faces, expressions, objects, and brand logos in images. Digital storytelling and co-creative media: the role of community arts and media in propagating and coordinating population-wide creative practice. Community arts, community broadcasting and Indigenous media producers all face the challenge of digital media and user-led innovation. This project brings these systems together to test how existing infrastructure and new media affordances can be combined to stimulate broad-based innovation through creative participation.

This project aims to determine how young people engage with alcohol and nightlife marketing on social media platforms like Facebook, Instagram, and Snapchat. Companies now leverage the power of social media to create advertisements that are made and shared by young people, targeted to them in particular times, places and contexts, and are thus difficult to monitor and regulate. Summary
The cultural economy of locative media. This project will examine the cultural and economic aspects of locative media. It will generate a new understanding of location-based media consumption practices and businesses, and it will contribute to policy development, especially around issues of privacy.

This project aims to address the social impact of major shifts in the production, distribution, viewing and storage of photographic images which have profoundly altered their everyday use. By adopting an interdisciplinary, user-centred approach to digitally networked photography, the project will provide a more holistic understanding of how photographs mediate communication, sociality and memory in the present.
