Summary
The ultimate goal of my research is to develop an effective, affordable and accessible treatment for patients afflicted with age related macular degeneration (AMD). The novelty of my study is that I will use a protein extracted from silk as a form of scaffold on which to grow new retinal tissue, with the view to replacing the damaged tissue that eventually leads to permanent loss of sight in AMD patients.

Summary
Epstein-Barr virus (EBV), the causative agent of glandular fever, is carried by a large proportion of adults worldwide. EBV is known to cause many cancers including Burkitt's lymphoma and has been linked to autoimmune diseases such as multiple sclerosis. The aim of this project is to find new fragments of EBV that the body's immune system can recognise and use to protect itself against the virus. Summary
Chronic lymphocytic lymphoma (CLL) is the most frequently diagnosed leukaemia in adults and is still considered incurable. CLL cells proliferate in the lymph nodes and bone marrow; these are areas of the human body that are hypoxic when compared to blood. These hypoxic areas affect CLL cell survival, proliferation and treatment resistance. Changes that occur to CLL cells in these areas can be measured by gene expression profiling and modeled in a lab setting to identify targets for treatment.

I am a PhD in Medicine-University of Sydney. My research focus is about telomere dynamic, its mechanism and correlation between telomere length and diabetes attributes. I will compare telomere length between different diabetes groups & examine telomere regulation in cell culture/animal model to compliment my clinical data. Summary
Damage to the cornea causes vision loss. Transplants can restore sight but carry risk of rejection and therefore require anti-rejection therapy, which has side effects. Bioengineered corneal components could replace transplants. Our goals are: 1) Growth of corneal endothelium and epithelium from adult stem cells to reduce the amount of tissue so the patient's own cells could be used. 2) Develop scaffolds that are suitable for implantation or other methods to deliver cells.

I am a research scientist interested in the immune system. Specifically, I intend to investigate immunological memory, which is the basis of vaccination. This refers to the ability of certain immune cells such as T and B cells to ‘remember’ a pathogen, so that a rapid and enhanced response can be generated upon re-infection with the same pathogen. This can be investigated by experimental techniques such as flow cytometry, histology and confocal microscopy on cells from infected mouse tissue.
